The folks from Berkeley are really down about this.

As for our team, it almost ensures this is the last weekend we watch our seniors play. Amoke didn't have many polished skills this season, but what he does well we need for both games--rebounding. We need boards, especially against a Louisville team that's one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country and one of the poorest in the defensive boards. Amoke's hustle on the glass could have definitely been used; now Boykin is going to probably have to fight down on the block by himself.

And then we get Duke, which is a better rebounding version of Louisville. Great.

We might have the shooters and just enough inside to pull off an upset of Louisville, but we'd pretty much have to run Jerome Randle, Patrick Christopher, Theo Robertson and Jamal Boykin into the ground. Then in all likelihood our season would end against the Dukies, if the Cardinals don't take care of business Friday. We just don't have the depth to pull off a six man rotation two games straight against the top competition.

I have a feeling

This game will be much like the ND game. With Omondi out, we really need Sam Sam to step up again on offense. If the baby hook starts falling and Sam Sam shows his expertise in drawing the foul, I think we’ll have this. Also, Swop, Buckles, and Jennings should have a chance at dominating the boards.

On another note, who else is looking forward to a game without Big East Refs? Should be interesting to say the least!

On another note,

I would rank CaliforniaGoldenBlogs the second best college sports blog in the World. Good stuff over there. I like the Q and A they did with CC/Mike?!

Anyone else see that Obama picked Louisville over Cal and then said we’d play Duke close? That’s kinda cool. I’m so psyched for the Tourney to begin!

They are Berkeley

after all. They should be smart eggs about everything.

We're favored?

I’m not sure it would be an upset if Cal beat us, I’m not sure what the line is on the game… but I agree on both of hte above points. CalGoldenBlogs is a great site, reminds me of ours in many ways, and YAY no Big East Refs. I’m thrilled

God don't you miss that guy?

I sure hope Coach Strong is recruiting kids like that one. I can’t remember being this excited for football to start since the Spring before the Orange Bowl year. Doesn’t that seem like a lifetime ago now?

Inside game

is NOT the decider in this one, imho. I think it’s legs. We go 8-9 deep and they now go only about 5 deep, really. We need to run their starters into the ground, because there’s a very large drop-off in talent once they have to hit their bench a lot. I see a close game early, then we pull away as their legs get heavy in the last 5-6 minutes. But Cal is experienced and will keep their heads together. I sincerely hope RP has our guys 100% focused on this game and not in any way looking ahead.

One of the best offensive rebounding teams???

Without looking at any stats, I’d have to say that maybe this is an overstatement. We are very good at running to the other end of the floor while the shot is still in the air…is that what they meant?

I stand corrected...

I looked at the stats…we are 21st in the country in OR and 218th in DR. Huh…

Probably because we shoot so much from outside

Also without looking at the stats… long rebounds negate the defensive advantage from blocking out under the boards. We take a lot of threes, and miss two thirds of them. That makes for abundant long bounces, and chances for our guys to be in the right place.
