Selection Show Open Thread
Not quite as exciting as a year ago, but it's still the best Sunday of the year, by god.
It's time for last second predictions on seed, opponent and location. Anyone who nails it will be crowned Card Chronicle King or Queen from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. tonight.
I'm going with 10 seed in the Midwest against Texas.

Lunardi has us vs. Ok. State as #9 in the East
Then UK in the 2nd round.
Michigan State also in that half of the bracket.

Ok. Now that I actually read Mike's OP
I guess I should place us.
- in the Midwest
vs. Northern Iowa.

AHHHHH
not Number 1. I said “#9” NUMBER NINE

9 seed.
South. Florida State.
I really have no idea.

9 - OK St - East
Let’s see how right Lunardi is
Just about everyone besides Lunardi has us as an 11
I love it. The 6s are not scary.

Richmond, Xavier, BYU, Vandy, Butler, Gonzaga
Who else is a potential 6 seed?

This One Shining Moment stuff has me pumped.
It’s NCAA tourney time. Let’s get started.

how much do you think I could sell floor seats for sweet 16 elite 8

if its like lunardi has it....
then there will be some hick kentucky fan that will give up his home/trailer for them
Considering that Davis and Anthony have already seen the bracket
I’m gonna go ahead and say that West Virginia is the fourth one seed.

I almost bought 3 in St. Louis for 600

Duke in the South over Cuse...
interesting. Kinda a knock on the Cuse.
by Remote Cardinal on Mar 14, 2010 6:03 PM EDT reply actions
Ugh
UK avoids the only team that could actually beat them until the Championship game.
Whoever the #2 seed is in Duke’s region = hopefully a good match up for UK.
Wow, Duke is the overall #3? Wow – Syracuse should have been on UK’s side. That’s BS.
I think the committee is wet dreaming about UK vs Duke there...
Cuse vs. UK would have been much to UK’s disadvantage.

Need a Friday and Sunday spot

"It's like they get off on being withholding"
I love selection sunday as much as the next guy, but c’mon, just show us who’s in, then talk.
Committee wants UK/Duke
Foolish because the Blue Devils won’t get there.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 14, 2010 6:05 PM EDT reply actions
Agreed
I’ve never been this excited about a bracket show. So much uncertainty.
And the funny thing is, getting the 3 seed in UT’s #2 region and UNC’s #1 actually elicited a hugely overreacting F**K YA!! than getting the overall #1 last year.
Duke over 'Cuse
Is so fucking predictable and just wrong. Does the committee even care about total body of work anymore?
watched the UNLV game last night,

shouldn’t Kansas as the #1 overall play the winner of the play in game? they’re showing a #16 on that line and didn’t mention a play in game

BRING ON DUKE!

i like this match up a lot
we can get to the sweet 16
The funny thing is....
….if that bracket would have been announced first, we would all be complaining!
WHATEVER, WE’LL TAKE IT.
I’m slightly dizzy right now.
Beating Duke would be sweet
Don’t like the fact that Duke hasn’t been past sweet 16 since 2003. They will be hungry.
Oh My God I like this draw
Duke, Purdue’s hurt, Cal’s nothing outside of Berzerkley. . . .
LOVE that bracket
Take ’em all.

Selection committee obviously decided that top teams deserve harder opponents.
Bucking logic I see. This is two years in a row.
So the top two seeds get the two best No. 2 seeds?
That’s how this works?

Glad Utah State got in ahead of somebody like Mississippi State . . .

2-3 zone ain't gonna get it done against Duke
Ricky P is gonna have to go against his ‘religion’ and play some man if we’re gonna have a chance.

Gotta agree with Stewart Mandel's tweet
“This is the worst bracket I can ever remember. The No. 1 overall seed got the toughest bracket. Duke gets a laughable draw.”
I think K is paying some people to get him past the third round for the first time in forever.
Gotta stop underachieving to keep that legacy up.
How in the world
does FL get in as a 10 and VA TECH is left out? I defy anyone to logically explain that one.
ND deserves the 6!
I’m not a fan, but they finished very strong without their top guy. That matters.
Don't care.
YOur last five games don’t make up for the rest of the season. I could just as easily ask why they struggled all season WITH their best man.
But my main point was that Michigan State got a 5, in the toughest bracket, which is BS. If Texas A&M gets a 5, no way Michigan State should be that low.
but i think that overall they were not impressive enough to earn a 6

Very, very beatable. And now we don't have to worry about a mental collapse due to an impending UK rematch.

SO WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT CALIFORNIA?
by Cambroni Cardinals on Mar 14, 2010 6:47 PM EDT reply actions
Hard to say; they have not played outside the conference this year
But certainly the class of the conference, whatever that means
Question: Anyone know anything about Cal?
All i know is that they are from the Pac-10, which is terrible
Lost games early without their best player, then won the PAC-10 regular season.
But still have a terrible SOS and weak wins. I think 1 win vs. RPI top 50.
More I think about it the more I love it
Cal’s just not that good and we step up against big-name opponents, so facing the weakest No. 1 seed in the 2nd round is a huge break. Plus, they’re the only one in the top two lines that doesn’t pose a problem for us athletically.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 14, 2010 6:48 PM EDT reply actions

by Mike Rutherford on Mar 14, 2010 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Exactly
This is maybe the best draw for us matchup-wise in the first 2 rounds as a 9
Duke....
….seems like no downside for us. They are overrated so a loss to them would not be the worst way to end the season.
Who am I kidding? We can do it!
Me too
I can see us getting blown out by California, or making an Elite Eight run. We’ll see which team shows up in Florida.
by loverofthegame on Mar 14, 2010 6:51 PM EDT up reply actions
I think Duke uses the dribble better this year with Nolan Smith playing the point exclusivley
that could pose a problem, but lets worry about Cal first
ND
beat Pitt TWICE, GTown, and Marquette in their final games. THEY DESERVE THE 6!
2 teams
that often win ugly, but they both win. I can’t wait for that one!
cal lost to all the good teams out of conference it played
syracuse, kansas, new mexico. they notched a big 5 point victory over murray state early in the year

Good point....
…especially with a week to prepare.
If we are going to be in the 8/9 game, I would much rather have Duke than any other 1.
Also, if we were going to be in the 7/10 game we could have gotten either KSU or OSU. I’d almost rather play Duke than those two teams.
Yup, this is a great draw
if we couldnt get UTEP + UK
I would love to see us pressing the bejeesus out of Duke.
The Cal game is just the kind of game we typically lose, though. Maybe it will help that we are the lower seed.

We already knew this, but it still should be said:
No Connecticut, no North Carolina, no UCLA, no Indiana, and, for the first time in 26 years, no Arizona. Some big names missing.
OK
I’ll say it… no one else has the balls yet. LOL Look at how our region plays out and you can conceivably make a case that if we get by Duke, we could be a (GASP!) Final Four team. Seriously, look at it!
We've beaten ND
and SHOULD have beaten Nova. We play both of those teams well and we know them well. No worries about facing teams Pitino has no clue about.
We still have to wun 4 in a row to make the FF, right?
We haven’t done that in a while
Killjoy
LOL I know I know. But if you can’t dream today, when can ya???
Haha, sorry
Was just too much of an emotional rollercoaster to picture NIT one minute and FF the next
cheers from california friends...
reading this thread right now made me laugh…as you sounded just like me re: duke, jay bilas, etc. Pac-10s on a down year but Cal has lots of seniors and a point guard that can shoot – Jerome Randle. A great coach as well in Mike Montgomery…let’s face it, if he can take Stanfurd to a final four, then he can work miracles!
Surprised somebody hasn't noted this yet:
Imagine somebody falling asleep in 1997, waking up today, then seeing both Pitino coach U of L AND Montgomery coaching Cal? Cue Twilight Zone music.
I honestly don't know what to think.
This team is so hard to predict. We’ve been competitive in so many games against top teams that we could easily have beaten them but for a few calls or made shots. Looking at our bracket, if we happened to be a 2 instead of a 9, I could see us going to Final Four. But looking at the season and then the bracket, I could see us losing in the first weekend.
It’ll be interesting. I just honestly don’t see us making it past week 1 unfortunately.
Has Louisville played Duke since the 1986 Championship Game?

I was there
Single greatest Louisville basketball memory I’ll probably ever have. 20 years old, with other UofL students, first time in Dallas. It can get no better.
I bet....
…we get the late-late Friday night game. Duke will be prime time and then Cal can be on in prime time on the West Coast.
Too bad we played much better in day games this year than night games, for some reason.
Not quite. 3:45 Friday.
When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome again. True story.
-Barney Stinson
I watched the show on dvr and reading this thread after that is pretty funny
You guys really freaked out. I’m cool with Cal. I just hope we don’t get up at the half, start getting pumped to play the 16 seed that upsets Duke, and fall apart. Cal worries me. Randall is pretty good. The seeds were fucked.
Kem Pomeroy's projector
has us losing by 3 with a 36% chance of winning. ND is the other team predicted to lose
I am dreading my bracket(s) this year.
Who knows what could happen. This seems like the year where a few low seeds (cards please) go far and possibly make the final four.
