Open Thread: Louisville vs. Rutgers
Rutgers Scarlet Knights at Louisville Cardinals, Feb 6, 2010 4:00 PM EST
Smilin' Charlie came this close to getting bumped off by mascot rape.
Don't let me down, Chuck.

GO CARDS.

Tell me we can't lose
With Charlie at the Helm

If we lose either this or the St John's game
We don’t deserve to make the tournament. Have to beat the bottom 3
Jeez, Mike -
This is better than Mascot Rape, and Charlie’s a great guy and all (so far) but don’t you think it just may be a bit demeaning to the basketball program to believe they need football mojo to win? Bring back ADMM – or put up a picture of Pitino or Preston! or Justin Coleman or Pervis or … well, anyone connected to basketball.
Why was everyone surprised the the WVU fans were morons vs. Pitt?
If you have ever attended any game in Morgantown you would know vulgar language and coin throwing are long time traditions at WVU.
However, I was shocked to learn they were throwing dimes and quarters. There goes the kids education funds!
for an out-of-town Card fan...
…seeing these shots of Freedom Hall always brings a strong dose of nostalgia. I wish I could make it down home for a game before they close the place down!
i don't know
that pull-up, fast-break, 3-point miss will always infuriate me

at the very least
can we call it a karma block?

I really hate John SChnatter
Almost as much as I hate big east sportsmanship kid
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 4:13 PM EST reply actions
he was really slow rotating out
to guard the 3-pt line. Rosario missed, but you know that Pitino is watching hard for those kind of mistakes

Depaul vs. Seton Hall is the BE game of the week?
Is it still doppelganger week?

He's great on help side
just not on the ball
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 4:19 PM EST up reply actions
swop was really under control there.
he set his feet nicely for that jumper…. unlike some of the other shots that we’ve seen from him this year
he could be a big contributor by tournament time
(if we make the tournament)

How is that any different with Big East's SD-only feed?
If only they’d bite the bullet and upgrade…
Some of their games are HD
I think it depends on the local station whose equipment they probably use
reminds me of watching on a 10" antenna TV back in the '80s

he's such a homer though
I mean I love him, but he’s obviously a U of L fan
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 4:33 PM EST up reply actions
that's fine
and UK fans hate him which is even better. But then again they hate all journalists

hey Maddie
I lived in Portland back in ‘04 through ’06. I’d go watch the Cards games at Claudia’s sports bar on Hawthorne. some great memories in that place
by BostonCardFan on Feb 6, 2010 4:35 PM EST up reply actions
been to Claudia's
many times and have met a few Card fans there. I’ve in Boston when in grad school from ‘96-’98

Don't ask me how, but
I got shafted by my wife to run errands earlier this afternoon in hopes I would be home for the game & I am sitting on my iPhone at a Jair salon in the highlands. How do we look?

Rutgers is clearly outmanned
but we’re keeping it close by allowing breakaway dunks and shooting rash threes. We’re up 12 atm
been a little up and down
but we’ve controlled the game

I'm sure Pitino thought
Chris Harrison was going to be a great shooter in college and we saw what happened with him. High school doesn’t always translate. I’m in a wait and see with Marra.
Maddie in Portland, Oregon
i was at the Providence game
where he got some confidence and tore it up. i’m not holding my breath for this year, but i’m still hopeful long-term

We may not be able to wait and see
with all of the new recruits coming in he might not see much playing time after soph year

World Cup will be awesome this year
To bad it’s halfway around the world and matches will be on early in the morning sucks for American fans
by tnatburks on Feb 6, 2010 4:49 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Marra needs to do a better job filling the lane
he was in no man’s land
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 4:51 PM EST reply actions
Irritated is the right word
We should be up 20 like Rick said earlier. We are very carefree on defense for whatever reason. I think we put a hurt on in the second half
Halftime scores
UNLV is up 20 on BYU at halftime. Oklahoma is up 16 on Texas. We are up 11 on Rutgers. 2 of those are important.
Tnaburks ... I feel ya
just got home myself. I had to go to Costco with the two kids on the first weekend of a new coupon book. Yeah…the things we do.
We have 1 time out left
I hope to hell we don’t need one soon. Jennings has been horrible on defense, just like everyone else really.
this is a classic trap game
we are better, but they are on a streak and this game didn’t get much attention. Should pull it out though
Maddie in Portland, Oregon
Trap between what? We play St John's next
This is straight up ‘get a big lead and expect them to roll over.’
I had a delayed feed
seeing that made me happy

If Mike had given our free tickets for this game
nobody would’ve guessed Swop and Jerry would be our best players
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:22 PM EST reply actions
Jerry was almost our leading scorer last game.
Doubt anyone put that.
by Remote Cardinal on Feb 6, 2010 5:23 PM EST up reply actions
Swop is going to be a stud.
He is damn skilled and will only get better as he gets stronger.
how did they not call that goaltend?
refs and meteorologists should have consequences for sucking at their jobs
Samardo with a 3 would be a top 10 pick
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:36 PM EST reply actions
he's still too slow to be a top ten pick
no matter what kind of jumper he has
He needs more explosion.
Watched Nene against the Lakers a little last night. I see Nene as Samardo’s ceiling, but he has to be much more physical and a little more explosive to get to that level.

by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:38 PM EST reply actions
I don't know
the lack of a killer run is aggravating. It’s cost us this season big time, and it better not cost us today
Rutgers is playing a good game.
Have to gut this one out.
Superhero Jerry
We needed you today
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:43 PM EST reply actions
good poke Jerry
I love that play on D
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:45 PM EST reply actions
Got a break there.
Jerry pushed on that shot.
agreed
The floater would be a great addition to his game, but he needs to get it to Samardo
by Chris Redman is my hero on Feb 6, 2010 5:46 PM EST up reply actions
When you go down to a Swop slap, you are risking some "glass jaw" jokes.
But really, hope the dude’s ok.
Honestly, I like the segments...
is that so bad. I think it’s a good way to look at the ±
by Remote Cardinal on Feb 6, 2010 5:51 PM EST up reply actions
I think it's arbitrary and meaningless
just because they take the TV timeouts, that doesn’t make it any more meaningful. You could look at 5-minute segmens just as well.
Please let Samardo touch it once in a while.
Keep him happy.
Speaking of Forde
I thought he was really good today. He made good points, and wasn’t horribly annoying.
+1 for winning.
A BEAST win is a BEAST win.

we have the Siva layup and a few dunks to celebrate.

Best part about win is that Jerry may have regained some confidence.
Along with Swop. Did TJ not play just because Swop was feelin’ it?
yeah WTF rick?

I hate to admit it, but I was never really nervous about today's game.
But I’m nervous for any road game. We need to beat the Johnnies.
