- What kills Pitino are the stories are of him courting NBA teams, not them courting him. That's the embarrassment for him. He's desperate.
- Pitino has to keep recruiting at 'Ville. Of course he's gonna deny. He loves these stories getting out, but not where he's courting them.
- Pitino saying he hasn't had direct NBA conversations in 9 years is false, but mostly he uses 3rd parties. That's what he's using with Nets.
- With wildly rich owner willing to pay and cap space, the Nets are a VERY good NBA job. Anyone on TV today saying otherwise knows nothing.
- Pitino isn't requesting personnel control in NBA, tells them he just wants to coach. That's what he sold Sacto on. They didn't want him.
- It's possible Pitino is "done" with the pros, but only cause he can't get an offer. He's going to deny, deny til then - and then he's gone.
- Pitino knows new Russian owner wants a high-profile name and he's trying to be that guy. For him to say he's "done" with coaching the pros?
- What Pitino doesn't want is perception he tried to get job and was rebuffed. That's what happened with Sacto; NJ is job he really wants.
- The Pitino story in NYDN is accurate. He's been working back channels to Russian owner and management.for weeks. They know he wants job.
Jared Swopshire can't believe his return to the starting lineup is being overshadowed by this.

There have been a lot of rumors about Pitino not being our coach lately
With the Kings bit, and the he’s going to quit/he’s going to get fired stuff in the summer, and the St John’s rumors, and the Nets rumors, it’s adding up. I don’t believe people are just making these things up.
Also, the Nets are one of the teams in the LeBron sweepstakes, so the ‘taking over a 4 win team’ talk is ridiculous. I’m not saying that Rick would leave to coach there, but that’s an instant title contender with LeBron and whoever he brings with him. He says he has no interest in coaching the pros again, but does anyone really believe more than 60% of what any coach says?

I think the rumor got started because he was talking to the owner of the nets while at a funeral. I don’t think Pitino is trying to go anywhere, why would be be busting his ass on the recruiting front just to leave? for a backup plan? There are not many places that really want Ricky P anymore anyway….whoever said he was a gods gift as a head coach in NBA, im sure there are better selections.
Also, i know the Nets will have alot of money to dish out next year, but i can almost gaurantee they will not land Lebron.

Even if some of the rumors are true
Wojo’s tweets just come off sounding like personal attacks. It is entirely possible that one of Pitino’s “lackeys” or cronies or whatever Wojo is calling them talked to Thorn about it without Pitino even knowing. Isn’t that a possibility? It would fit within all of the denials. But still, Wojo loses a lot of credibility with these personal attacks against Pitino. I’m wary about all the rumors, although I don’t think he’ll leave, but this doesn’t help make the case at all. Come up with some facts, and not hearsay. One source is nice, but is it really enough to run a story with?

Agreed that WoJo and O'Connor come off as hacks with a serious axe to grind re Pitino.
Certainly makes me more optimistic that the rumors may be false. Of course, I don’t know if the story originated with either one of these “journalists”; anybody know?
