Teddy Bridgewater

If TB verbals and signs in Feb, he would be the biggest recruit in the school's history. I have heard the argument that the staff shouldn't go after the kid because of the loyalty the hometown stud. DeMarcus Smith has shown the program by sticking to his commitment.

I love DS and I can't wait to see him on campus in January which could very well happen. He not only is a big time player, he's from the city, has been a fan his entire life and as previously mentioned, remained firm in his commitment.

DS was one of the first to commit to the program when HCCS was given the keys. I watched a couple of his games personally and think we are in for a heckuva ride with him behind center.

At the same time, a 5 star Quarterback has visited Louisville and cancelled a couple other visits since. A visit to Cincinatti was cancelled as well as a return visit to his original school of choice; Miami. I nearly left out another visit that he cancelled; LSU.

Twitter was abuzz yesterday with news that TB committed to the Cards, but no announcement has been made  by the young man. With the uninspired hiring of Al Golden at The "U", the feeling that some folks are getting is that Teddy's mom was not happy with the fan's reaction when TB decommitted from the Canes.

So it seems the Cards are in good shape with the signal caller. What does this mean for the program? It means that IF TB chooses the Cards, we have two elite QB's that could enroll in January and compete immediately for the starting job next season. BOTH of them here in January to learn the playbook and participate in Spring practice.

I understand what a coup it was to land Peanut Whitehead a few seasons back. Taking the Defensive End out of Auburn and Alabama's back yard was an enormous step for the program here. But TB is a QB. The most important position in all of sports.

And while a commitment from the young QB doesn't put us on the same level as the "Big 3" in the Sunshine State, it certainly sends a message to the Big East, and more importantly, the young ball players that are looking to get away from home and compete for National Championships. In short, this would be HUGE!!!

Go Cards!

You know with fans now realizing that us landing Teddy is a real possibilty now theres been alot of talk about Demarcus vs Teddy

Yes Demarcus is a hometown kid the has showed his Loyalty to this program but that doesnt mean you stop recruiting other quarterbacks because you want to keep Demarcus happy. Especially when that other quarterback is a five star player and you have one true quarterback which is a 5 foot 9 walk on on the roster for next year. If teddy commits and they both enroll in january charlie will evaluate them all the way up untl next september and the best man will win the job. Competing against each other will only make both of them better. We dont live in a world where things are simply given to you unless you were born rich. but in the real world you have to earn yours.

Let's not worry

Hold off on the QB battle until both guys are actually signed. I agree with TRU tho that you don’t stop recruiting based on loyalty. We need all the talent depth we can get. Even if we sign both guys, it doesn’t mean DeMarcus wont get snaps. Anything can happen on the field. We have different offensive packages to utilize both guys if we choose too. Not to mention the injury scenarios that could happen. Having both guys is nothing more then a positive for Louisville football right now.

I'm really torn here

But I do think that Teddy B. making a commit could open the flood gates for a major recruiting haul this spring. And in the end I feel like that’s what’s best for the program.

fun fact

Scout.com said that if both of them signed here then they would keep Demarcus at quarterback and they would move Teddy to wide reciever because he is so elusive, and they coul put him at the wildcat and unlike D.Brown he can throw out of it.

I doubt this. I think they would keep them at QB, at least for a year or two.

PEOPLE on the Scout boards are saying this, not the actual professionals behind the site itself.

Believe me, if we land TB, the chances that he moves to WR aren’t exactly slim to none, they are basically none to none. He’s the kind of guy that Alabama or Ohio State might move to WR, because they already have several blue chip QBs on their roster with experience. But if Miami and LSU are recruiting him to be a four year program QB, Louisville is not going to pass on him as the signal caller because we signed one lower rated local QB in the same season. Will not happen. The only reason Dominique Brown was moved is because he just doesn’t have the required accuracy, and he still lines up at QB more than he did WR.

And let’s not forget, all 3 of our QBs have played significant time in the past 2 years. There’s very little chance that even if we get TB that Demarcus Smith will never play, let alone start.

Scenarios

Best case: Redshirt Smith. Teddy goes on to pilot a great spread and declares for the NFL draft as a junior. Damarcus, being only a sophmore, plays for 2 or three years before the keys are handed to the successor.
Worst Case: Smith is not redshirted, because of a possible Quarterback controversey. TB plays for 4 fantabulous years and Smith never gets his chance, not getting any sort of NFL career.

I keep checking everyday for a TB commit.

This will be one of the greatest moments in UL football history. Not just because of him but hopefully what will follow suit recruiting wise once other guys see what we can offer here.

no one likes my thoughts on this subject

but if teddy comes here it will be because miami blew up. D Smith has been loyal to UL when all the crows came calling. i would hate to see him decide to go elsewhere if Teddy comes here and if Teddy does come here i couldnt blame Smith for going elsewhere. I don’t want to see that. i want D Smith here and if that means not getting Teddy thats fine.

This is a no-brainer

You don’t turn down a Teddy Bridgewater. Damarcus Smith has never, to my knowledge, said “I want to go to UofL, but only if I can start for four years.” If he redshirts and then plays backup to Bridgewater for a year or two before coming into his own, he’ll be fine. The kid loves Louisville and will do what’s in the best interest of the program.

As for him going elsewhere if we land Bridgewater, didn’t someone say Damarcus was actively involved in recruiting TB?

yes Smith cares about the program

but why would he sit backup to a guy in the same class as him at a mid level Big East school when Oregon is knocking on the door? He could redshirt and start 4 years at a lot of BCS schools. Why sit back?

by Cambroni Cardinals on Dec 20, 2010 8:59 AM EST up reply actions

Because he would be a 4-5 year backup for Oregon
