Play at the Point

I always thought a major weakness of Louisville basketball was the lack of a quick point guard that could aggressively drive down the lane, then either take the lay up, get the foul call or pass off to an open teammate on the wing or crashing the rim. All good stuff! I know we sure always had problems defending teams with those guys at the point. So I have been anxiously awaiting the maturing of Peyton Siva as it appears he has both the quickness and passing ability to be successful. His play to date has been a little spotty with too few penetrations and too many turnovers. I still think he can be very good (needs to improve his shooting though). But I was very impressed by the play of Russ Smith tonight. I didn't know much about him coming in but I thought he showed excellent quickness with the ball, good vision and a very quick passing delivery. I really like our ability to put three quality guards (Siva, Smith and Justice) on the floor for 40 minutes. Should really wear down teams that are not as deep and yield very good things for us at the end of games and down the stretch this season. One caveat - THEY ALL BETTER IMPROVE AT THE FREE THROW LINE!!!!
