Sun Bowl waiting on an opponent before calling Miami
"Our biggest problem is waiting for the opponent to see who it’ll be," Folmer said. "Everybody’s hoping we’ll get Notre Dame, but we’re in a backup position to the Champs [Sports] Bowl."
Folmer added, "If we got Notre Dame, I don’t think there are any ifs, ands or buts that we’d take Miami despite all the things that have happened."
The Sun Bowl can only select Notre Dame to face an ACC team if no Pac-10 teams are available. Folmer said he doesn’t expect any from the Pac-10 to be. Should no Pac-10 team be there and Champs Sports takes the Fighting Irish, then the Sun Bowl would select a Big East team to face their ACC representative, Folmer said.
At that point, they’d look at the best matchup between the ACC and Big East teams available to them.
