National Rankings
If these stats stand…
Total Defense (11) & Pass Defense (8) = Highest (end of regular season) national ranking in program history, right?

Two stats that make the difference between 6-6 and 9-3 (or better):
Pass offense, and defense pass efficiency. The pass game is a given, as it was average even when Froman was healthy, but took a major hit when Froman went out (and it didn’t help that Powell was hurt at the same time). A playmaker at QB is worth at least another 2 wins.
Also, while the pass defense was great all year in terms of yards, one thing we didn’t do well is create turnovers. We did the best we could at not turning the ball over ourselves, but we just don’t have the ball-hawking talent on defense that you need to give an already over-acheiving (and still struggling) offense chances. You see how much those chances mean in the two big ones we had at the end of the season (USF and WVU) but still came up short because we couldn’t get any more.
Here’s hoping some of the top safeties Charlie is bringing in next year will help that along.

ANY Dorsey News
Just totally disappeared off the radar after the summer. What the heck is going on here?
Bilal Powell for Heisman!
Serioulsy, how good is Strong?
He’s taken us from wherever the hell we were under Krag to a top 20 defensive.

Surprisingly, we weren't at the bottom in rushing defense
Especially when Ron English was here for that one year. The pass defense had always been in the last 30%.
I think the pass defense statistics are a bit misleading
Not to take anything away from the performances of guys like Johnny Patrick and Hakeem Smith, but I think our ability to rush the passer and create sacks has really covered up a lot of the flaws in our secondary. Anyone who watched the Cincinnati game would have to agree. If we don’t get pressure and our DB’s have to actually cover people, the results generally haven’t been great. But that’s sort of a given with any defensive backfield; the longer they have to cover people, the less effective they are.
Nonetheless, it’s been a huge upgrade this year in every area of the game.
yep, which shows me the vast improvement with Louisville's defensive coaching this season
You know your secondary is vulnerable so you blitz from several different packages and pressure the QB into making faster decisions. Collaros had way too much time and Burns’d us.
