Fresh off the Butler win, I'm really wondering what the U of L basketball team is capable of. We dominated the Bulldogs on defense, and the offense, especially in the 1st half, seemed fluent. Now, the question is: what is this team's ceiling? We got solid contribution from both the starters (outside of Kuric) and the bench. TJ and Rakeem dominated the Butler forwards. Howard had 23 points, but did not have a good game. He was out for 70% of the first half with foul trouble. The only way he really scored in the second half was with free throws.
But anyway... with their great performance, do you think that is their ceiling? This team may be great. Everyone told them they aren't worth !@#$ this year. They showed us. We may make some serious noise. Rakeem is like the mini E5, and TJ ran the pick and roll very well. TJ and Rock got a bunch of rebounds and seriously effected the other team. Our schedule makes this team look like they may have a good shot at a great seed. 15 of our first 16 games are at home. We do not travel outside of the state of Kentucky until Jan 9 (USF). Lotsa yummy cupcakes! The down BEast helps a lot. There are a lot of OVERRATED teams in the Big East (ex. Nova). Plus, later in the year, we get swop and russ smith back, who will provide extra depth.
Plus, to make this more fun, we have a legitimately good chance at beating Kentucky this year. No true center = 6-8 guy on TJ and shooting guard on Rakeem. That alone gives us a decent chance at the win. Add in an epic home court advantage and our (seemingly) quick defense and we may even be FAVORED (in my world).
I believe that we will be a 4-6 seed based on a Butler and/or Kentucky win and the ability to have a chance for a quality win most days in the Big East. Predictions are welcome, and how far will we get if we make the tournament?
