Tough loss. I believe in each one of you. We’re a really good football team, and you are a very special group of guys. If I had to do it all over again, I would go for it on fourth and inches. That’s how much I believe in each one of you.

Too bad sappy texts don’t push d linemen.
I personally think that our OL will be motivated by such a text.
and in turn will push DLs.
Benavides and crew will take to heart getting their number called and falling short. Knowing that HCCS is still behind them and will call their number again should be all the motivation they need to train harder and not let coach down again.
Some of the best inventions and ideas come after failure with perseverance.

I think this team takes everything to heart and they will be motivated by everything HCCS does. This team is a long ways removed from the previous era in terms of effort and confidence. I have no doubt the guys on the team are all dying to be a part of something special in getting the program turned back around on that Collision Course. They know what is at stake and they know what they are a part of.
They gone have to stop sleeping on me one day.. I gotta be one of the best

Where can I sign up to get inspirational texts from HCCS?
There’s gotta be a major money-making fundraiser in this somewhere…
Going for it
is ok (not my choice but not necessarily wrong). But dear lord please no more QB sneaks with your non-running back-up QB at the helm when the league’s best DL sees it coming and stacks 11 guys between the tackles. Powell got us down that close, then he didn’t call #15 on 3rd or 4th down. That was stupid.
I don't know why you keep saying this.
First of all, you don’t need a running QB for a sneak. You just need your line to block and it helps if the QB is big and tall. A sneak is exactly the play you don’t want somebody like Michael Vick or Pat White.
Secondly, going with Powell would have been a stupid move at that short of a distance. You never want to hand off with just inches because it takes too much time and gives the defense a huge opportunity to get penetration and stop you in the backfield. You only go that route if you need 1 yard or more (like UConn against Pitt).
Thirdly, USF had stuffed Powell up the middle all game long. We were getting literally nothing by running straight. The only thing we had success with was outside zone, as Benavides said in his interview. And that’s great for 1st, 2nd, and maybe even 3rd down. But it’s just too high risk on 4th and inches in overtime. All it takes is one missed block, one loss of footing, one botched handoff, and it’s over. In this situation, you go with the percentages, and the percentages say to go with the sneak. It’s 6 inches. Most of the time you can fall forward and get that.
The legitimate point whether or not to go for it in the first place, which everyone is free to debate. I personally think you take the points and live to fight another day. But it’s one of those situations like Boise going for the two in overtime of the Fiesta Bowl or Michigan state doing the fake field goal at Notre Dame. When it works, it’s the gutsiest call ever and you’re a genius. When it doesn’t, you get questioned like Bill Belichick last year going for it on 4th down at Indy.
Bottom line: it was the right play, but it wasn’t necessarily the right decision to go with the play.
