After initially stating that he would not sign his letter of intent to play basketball at the University of Louisville until Thursday, Illinois Mr. Basketball front-runner Wayne Blackshear instead went ahead and got it over with today.
At a Wednesday afternoon press conference, U of L head coach Rick Pitino announced the signings of Blackshear, Bowling Green's Chane Behanan, and J'town's Zach Price. A fourth commitment, New York's Angel Nunez, is expected to sign this evening.
Here's what Pitino had to say about the three newest Cardinals:
On Blackshear: "He bleeds Louisville red. Wayne is a young man that has tremendous potential. He has as much potential as any player that I have ever recruited. He's 6-5 long and a terrific defensive player. He's a very good rebounder from the guard spot, he's a good shooter and has an explosive jumper. He's as fine a recruit as I've had because he has the whole package. Plus, he's a humble young man and very well disciplined."
On Price: "He's big and he does a lot of good things for a 6-11 guy. He has a very good scoring ability from outside, and he's a fundamentally sound basketball player. He has to work on conditioning."
On Behanan: "This young man can flat out play. Chane Behanan reminds me of (former Louisville star) Rodney McCray. He has guard skills as well as forward skills. He is explosive. He's very, very physical. He's going to be a terrific Big East basketball player."
Prediction: this kid will have a bigger impact in his freshman season than any other during the Pitino era.
