Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Quotes:

He is a coward," Zimmer said. "Put that in quotes. He ruined a bunch of people’s lives, a bunch of people’s families, kids, because he didn’t have enough nuts to stay there and finish the job. That’s the truth."

He's never been good a playing nice.

But he can score points and win games (a lot, if not all), so kids will continue to want to play for him and he will always have a job.

I think Bill Belichick is a cheating bitch, but he’ll end up in the hall of fame. We’re not talking about kindergarten teachers or youth ministers here. We’re talking about football coaches. The rules are different. Petrino’s successor showed exactly where book clubs, making friends and cuddle buddies, and “doing things the right way” get you in this business.

I think it's possible

to be a hard-ass S. O. B. as a coach and still have integrity as a human being. An example in another sport: Bob Knight. I think Knight was an insufferable bastard (he seems to have mellowed in his old age – as Bill Cosby said of old people, “they’re closer to the end and they’re trying to get into heaven”), but he never lacked for integrity.

not sure i agree on your Knight reference

Knight has some integrity, but assaulting players and “fans” lacks integrity to me, and not being able to control your temper lacks integrity. Yes he was honest and loyal to a program that turned out not to be loyal to him, but when you throw chairs and choke people, you aren’t a model of integrity in my book.
John Wooden was the model of integrity. He wasn’t a hard-ass SOB, but he was demanding of his players. i do agree with you that i you can be a very demanding, in your face, intimidating coach but still be a wonderful human being. I’m hoping our current football coach fits that bill, and so far he’s shown to fit all those qualities

But shady shit happened at UCLA under Wooden's tenure

I agree Knight had serious behavioral problems, but being two-faced was not among them; and that’s what I thought integrity meant.

I absolutely agree.

My point (as vague as it may have been) is that in this business, it’s easier to keep your job as a dick than it is to keep your job as Big Bird’s brother. All you gotta do is put up some Ws.

And I can't disagree with that!
