Tony Woods, apparently transferring to Louisville
I don't have a subscription, so I can't read the article, but the headline and abstract explain enough. I don't feel happy or excited about this. Are we really this desparate?

I completely understand what he did was wrong..... As much as they can piss you off as a man you never put your hands on a woman
But from a basketball standpoint its a major major pick up
I agree what he did was wrong hell I have daughters so you never like hearing about these types of situations
But the reality is if he comes in and averages 20pts 10rebs what he did will be put on the back burner. Thats just how it is
Predictions on how long he goes before getting arrested at UL?

Embarrassing...
Tony Woods beat and kicked his GF, fracturing her spine, in the presence of her 1yr old child…
Rick Pitino should be embarrassed… Winning is not worth a punk like this on your team…
Good luck guys,,,
Steelers 6 rings, Wildcats 7 Banners..!! Winning never gets old...!!!!
Tyreke Evans killed someone
Two wrongs don’t make a right or anything. Just saying.

I missed that report..???
…but what the heck does that have to do with Tony Woods..?
Steelers 6 rings, Wildcats 7 Banners..!! Winning never gets old...!!!!
lol evans killed someone .. funny because thats not what i read
Tyreke Evans, who at the time was one of the top high school basketball players in the country, testified during a preliminary hearing in 2008 that as he pulled his car up in front of his aunt’s house, his cousin and the two other men jumped in.He said at that time as he was about to pull away, his backseat passengers began yelling, "Go, ’cause they’re about to shoot."Burns, in her response to the suit, additionally contends that the shooting "was the result of provocation with use of a firearm, that was committed by Marcus Reason and others acting on Marcus Reason’s behalf."
basically evans cousin and the victim were in rival gangs and one side lost… but im sure evans having a gang member cousin is the same as a guy who fractures his childs mother’s back…lol

I don't want to get into this with another mouth breather
But, yes, driving the get away car during a murder is a lot like assaulting a woman.
Like I said, two wrongs don’t make a right. Neither should have been allowed to play college basketball again.
It is just ridiculous to suggest Cal wouldn’t have done the same thing, when he has a history of, well, doing the exact same thing.

and one more thing
I’m not going to try to say, “well, he probably didn’t mean to fracture her spine, and he only pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor, so that makes it ok.” Because that’s an awful lot like being a domestic-abuser apologist, and is an awful lot like saying, “Tyreke didn’t know he was driving the getaway car in the murder” or “How could Cal know bledsoe, rose, or camby, or enes was dirty” or “John Wall just broke into the house to double team some poor girl with one of his boys” or “the coach cousins assaulted had it coming.” And, that’s not my thing.

Let He Who is Without Sin Cast the First Stone
Now as I will admit this is a “gamble”, we have all been a “race car in the red” before, at least I know I have. This whole don’t hit a woman thing seems a bit holier than thou. As I don’t condone it, you have to admit a woman does have the power to drive us there. Of course that is where you turn and walk away and don’t put yourself i that situation if for no better reason than to stay out of a jail house (the woman has all the power in that situation). I believe the kid is young and has some growing to do and deserves a second chance. I think Rick understands the whole “second chance” bit and probably feels bad for the kid. For the record I even believe Vick deserved a second chance. He paid for his wrongdoings and seems like he is on a better path now. Let’s get behind this kid and help him turn his life for the better. You do have to admit we have some good kids on our team that could help him get through this dark time in his life. I for one will be behind Tony Woods, unless he screws up again and then “shame on me.” Also if I hear one UK fan yell “thug” I will just point to the fact that they inquired too and they had that total A1 thug on their team last year, swop has the proof. Thanks and if you are reading this Tony Woods, Welcome to The Ville!
dude are you serious ..lol and cousins an A1 thug...lol..
compared to this guy demarcus cousins was a saint, “women can drive us there” maybe a weak minded fool can be drove to hiting a woman, but it takes a complete piece of shit to fracture a chick’s spine, and you dont wanna hear uk fans say thug..LMFAO.. dude i think it is the other way around.. after all that pissing and moaning about cousins throwing an elbow after getting kneed, in a heated rivalry, and he hit a MAN, uk fans dont wanna hear it anymore after you picked up this loser

I didn't read past "a woman does have the power to drive us there."
No woman deserves to be kicked and thrown around. No child deserves to see his mother treated like that. Unless she was holding a weapon and threatening Woods or the child, in which case I don’t think he would have pled guilty to assault and apologized to the woman, there’s no excuse for what he did.
I Agree!!
It’s done and over with, he’s done moved on! It didnt happen under our watch so it’s really none of our concern. No one really knows what happened or what caused it! We dont have any depth at big man and the high school class lacks big men. Lastly, i get tired of all these people who dont live with any worries, live in the suburbs or live the rich life talk about someone bein a ’thug" when they first, they dont what a thug is and second, sure as fuck wouldnt know a thug if they seen one!!! Welcome to The Ville Tony! Turn your life around here with support from the real Cardinal fans!!!!!

this doesn't seem like its worth it
Woods played in all 31 games last season as Wake Forest compiled a 20-11 record and reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds.
this guy actually got owned by cuz last year in the tournament

Wow...
4.6 points and 3.2 rebounds. Those are 1st round draft pick numbers! (Actually they are…look at those compared to Orton.)

From what I heard,
they were ice-skating while holding hands when her spine broke. Woods sneezed really hard and the sudden jerk threw his girlfriend to the ground. Woods is the victim here! You all should be ashamed of yourselves for thinking negative thoughts about the man. He’s just trying to put the accident in the past.
(At least that’s what I’m going to believe. Look, we desperately need this kid. Just keep him on a VERY short leash and lets see what kind of impact he can make for the team)
Take a breath please.
The 6-foot-10 Woods is also hearing from Kentucky and a story on Foxsports.com quoted his former AAU coach – Norman Parker – saying Auburn, Georgetown, West Virginia, Xavier, Cincinnati and others have also called inquiring about his services.
The above is from the Courier-Journal now if all those teams looked into getting this kid PERHAPS there is MORE than we know to the story. That many different coaching staffs can’t be drinking the same Kool-Aid.Did he have jail time? What’s the story? If the police aren’t involved it’s green light!
I wish I could read the whole article
The blurb says the kid plans to transfer. I would like to know what the school has to say about that. Is he welcome? I hope not.
To those who say we don’t know what really happened: we know he pled guilty to an assault in which the mother of his child suffered a broken spine. I don’t need any more details than that.
This may be the same article. He apologized for kicking her and pushing her down in the presence of the kid. He got a misdemeanor conviction, a suspended 60-day sentence and probation, and he’s going to anger management class.
Hey, Demarcus Cousins wasn’t a bad kid either. He just needed anger management training.
I don’t want this kid on campus, let alone on the team.
I wish these UK Homers would stay off the board

Wake Forest University Student Paper Write Up
He pushed her to the ground…didn’t beat her, didn’t hit her. He had the baby in his arms when he did it, which is very sad. He’s a big man and needs to temper his actions as such; especially when dealing with women and children. (A lesson that even Big Cuz had to learn.) He didn’t transfer because of this incident. He transferred because of grades (due to missing classes). WF wanted him to stay. Another report claims that the girlfriend fell from her dorm bunk bed three days before the altercation and went to the student medical center with “back problems”. So as far as anyone knows, she might have fractured the spine then.
To me, none of these details of the story even matter. Every man must learn to control his anger and I’ll bet many of us out there have felt the urge to act in anger inappropriately. I know I’ve felt the urge many times, but by mercy have been able to refrain from doing anything stupid. If the kid (yes, kid) gets his head on straight, I’m all for him playing as a Cardinal in January 2012. If he doesn’t make a radical transformation by then, I highly doubt that he’ll ever suit up as a Cardinal.
In summary, he’s transferring; but he’s got a long time and lots of personal growth to do before he’ll ever play for UofL. Until then, give the kid a chance to work on himself.

Didn't hit her?
What, kicking doesn’t count?
According to court testimony from Assistant District Attorney Jennifer Martin, Woods and Barbour started arguing while in the bedroom of their apartment with their 8-month-old son, while their mothers were in the living room.
As the argument escalated Woods attempted to pick up his son and leave. Barbour tried to get the child back, but Woods kicked her and pushed her away. Barbour’s mother told police that when she entered the bedroom Woods had drawn back behind his head in a fist as if to hit Barbour again but didn’t, Martin said.
I did see that. Also note it said kicked as in singular.
But the point is that she didn’t come out of the altercation all bruised and beaten. She wasn’t struck multiple times as is the image of what I think others are portraying. Just wanting to make sure people aren’t reading “domestic abuse with fractured spine” and automatically going “OMG HHEEZ DA DEBIL!!!11#@”, but apparently people are just going to run with whatever image supports their agenda (not a comment directed at you rickmbari).

Wow
I didn’t know there were so many saints left in this world. Everyone is soo quick to judge now-a-days. I’m not condoning this in the least bit, it’s a terrible thing he has done and I’m not sure there is much worse that you can do than hitting a woman. With that being said, I think we need to all relax and let Pitino handle this. This kid wouldn’t even see the floor until January of 2012 and from here until then, you know CRP will have him on the shortest of leashes. One mess up and this kid will be gone. I believe in second chances and again I hate what Woods has done, but he has no other priors (gathered that from ITV boards) and he has a while to turn his life around before he would even be seen in a UofL uniform.
Open my mind to what?
This kid is trouble, and we will all regret his coming to Louisville. I have nothing more to say on the matter.
ok , live in your little close minded shelter
don’t come back when this kid has turned his life for the better.

If he does, I'll be the first to say I was wrong.
If he doesn’t, will you say I was right?
I didn’t think so.
"Screech, you CAN'T elope!"
"Who are you calling a cantaloupe, you melonhead?"
oh wait,
you can come back when you are wrong, I believe in second chances.

Serious Question
Is this the kid who UK fans were crying about him being dirty and trying to upset Cousins’ fragile ego in the tournament?
by johnnyjoejohnson on Oct 18, 2010 10:26 AM EDT reply actions
He's comin
So either keep cheering our players on or you dont! I am! I accept all players with open arms, i mean, look at our big men!
by louisvillefan#21 on Oct 18, 2010 10:26 AM EDT reply actions
So our other big men have a history of domestic violence?
And no, I don’t have to cheer for a man who broke his girlfriend’s spine. This doesn’t have the makings of a feel good, underdog hollywood movie. It’s not like he just made mistakes that messed up his own life (i.e. drugs, alcohol problems, etc), he abused the mother of his child. That’s not the type of person I want to cheer for.
by PaulRogersIsMyHomeboy on Oct 18, 2010 5:06 PM EDT up reply actions
I'm more concerned about how he avoided significant jail time.
I read the article where the victim claims she might have broken her spine by falling out of bed, but I assume that would carry as much weight in court as her saying she fell down some stairs.
by PaulRogersIsMyHomeboy on Oct 18, 2010 5:00 PM EDT reply actions
Except she did go to the student medical center with backpain before Labor Day weekend
Either way, the guy made a huge mistake and will have to earn his way on our team, if he makes it at all.
by Remote Cardinal on Oct 19, 2010 9:41 AM EDT up reply actions
Don't want to put word in homeboy's mouth, but
I thought he meant the supposed fall from her bed could have been a coverup for prior abuse. Domestic abuse is seldom an isolated incident; it’s a pattern of behavior.
