Adidas unveils new Louisville football uniforms
Just received the press release, video and image below from the fine folks at Adidas. We should also have an interview with the company's Director of Football later on this week.
ADIDAS AND UNIVERSITY OF LOUISVILLE
UNVEIL TECHFIT FOOTBALL JERSEYS
New compression uniforms will maximize players’ speed and mobility
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – October 11, 2010 – Today, adidas and the University of Louisville unveil their new TECHFIT compression football jerseys. Featuring a ground-breaking compression fit and weighing 30 percent lighter than standard football jerseys, the adidas TECHFIT jersey will help players be lighter and faster on the field.
The new Louisville TECHFIT jersey from adidas is a complete reconstruction of the standard uniform with multiple innovations to reduce the weight of the jersey by 30 percent. These technologies include a streamlined fit, new fabric, reduced seams and an ultra lightweight name and numbering system. In addition, the Louisville TECHFIT jersey keeps players cool with integrated ventilation zones and moisture management fabric. Reduced seams and a restriction-free, high-stretch collar design increases range of motion to support player agility and speed.
"The new TECHFIT jersey design will make old jerseys obsolete," said Mark Daniels, director of football and team sports for adidas. "adidas is changing the game with this revolutionary jersey construction and compression fit because we know the right gear can make a difference during a split second play. Less material and a tighter fit means the jersey is harder to grab and you can’t tackle what you can’t grab. College football is more competitive than ever before and teams need every advantage they can get on the field."
In addition to Louisville, six other adidas schools will debut the new TECHFIT jerseys this season including Michigan, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, Texas A&M, UCLA and Tennessee.
adidas designs and develops high-performance and lightweight football cleats, apparel and accessories for some of the greatest players and teams in the game including Reggie Bush of the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints, Mario Williams of the Houston Texans, C.J. Spiller of the Buffalo Bills and Eric Berry of the Kansas City Chiefs. adidas is the official uniform and apparel provider for more than 70 collegiate football programs.

Cincinnati is busting out new adidas uniforms Friday as well
They still say “The Ville.” I hate them
I don't hate "The Ville"
I do hate the awful potato ring around the shoulder pads on our current unis. I hope they’re gone forever

Our team name is not "The Ville"
It sounds like a canceled TV show. I can deal with it on our scoreboard, but, for the love of god, please take it off the jerseys. Who thought this would be a good idea?
just wait next year it'll say "Da Ville"
In the words of Ron Burgandy
stay classy University of Louisville Athletics.
The Ville is neither clever, catchy, or most of all classy.
Still say "The Ville."
Biggest letdown of the season?
Also, these may be 30% lighter, but they’re nowhere near as aesthetically pleasing as some of the Nike ProCombat jerseys. Of course, they’re also nowhere near as vomit-inducing as some of the other Nike ProCombat jerseys.
I’ll call it a wash for now. But Cincy’s better suck.

Well damn.
Not really any worse or better (actually look sickeningly similar), but they don’t say “The Nnati” or something stupid.
I would assume that we aren’t wearing these Friday since Cincy is wearing theirs and they look basically the same.

Saddest TV death ever
No one else even try to offer up an alternative. It’s not a competition.

I thought we were past "The Ville" garbage
Was it not obvious how humiliating those jerseys were last year? I cheer for UofL, not “The Ville.” Other than that, I think those jerseys are awesome. Saying “The Ville” really does make it a lot less cool, though.
Oh well, at least we actually are starting to look pretty good, and we just landed that South Carolina RB as well.
I'm just gonna say it (and then brace)
I like it.

Yeah
Everyone seems to be finding the smallest reasons (BESIDES the box shoulders) to hate the unis
Bilal Powell for Heisman!
I'm with you Mike
I like the Ville. We need a better brand name.

1980 basketball poster
my dad has a 1980 basketball poster in his office the “The Ville” this is not a new slogan, it has been around for at least 6 years longer than i have been alive.
Very true
I’ve seen old video footage from back in the late 70s/early 80s with The Ville being used. I find it’s OK to use amongst ourselves if drunk and trying to be funny, but don’t like it on a jersey. It should be a local thing. Also not a big fan of the black jersey. That scene is getting played out by all of college ball. Let’s stick to red and white with a bit of black the yellow on the beak.

If we were to make a BCS bowl and wear these uniforms, it would be an embarrassment
Although if they keep up this winning streak wearing them, maybe I’ll come around
According to C.L. Brown,
we will not be wearing these on Friday night.

Did he say why?
I can’t get a connection to CL’s blog for some reason. Despite putting “The Ville” on there, those things are pretty effin badass, and I’d like to see them in action.
Nope
I wouldn’t be surprised if we did anyway.

Dammit
Cinci is going to have the jump using 30% lighter unis. Every little bit counts. Then again, maybe they’ll all just feel like they’re naked and be shy.

I love them
minus “The Ville” just about like everyone else.

I really like it
and I think it’s pretty damn cool we are being mentioned with the group thats getting these uni’s. I can live with “the Ville” thing, as long as those damn hexagons come off our shoulders.
I still want to see us go to...
something more resembling the AZ Cardinals unis and helmets. Classic bird, clasic unis, grey bars.
Does anyone know
if “The Ville” will only be on the black jersey, kind of the way it is now? If I’m not mistaken, our black jersey now, aka “alternate jersey”, has “The Ville” on it but the others don’t?
I'd be happy if they were solid black
with flat black lettering. and a black cardinal. since the WVU blackout game, I just think we come out harder with all balck.
