Evil reigns for a year

There's plenty of good and bad (and Cousins) to talk about, but Kentucky beating Louisville at anything constitutes some serious sulking time. Sure, the Cats are far more talented and the Cards showed serious heart in the second half, but for now it really doesn't make this suck any less.
I fully expect for this thread to be infiltrated, but I'm going to be tied up with Ms. CC's birthday celebration for the majority of the evening (could've been a better time) so I just ask that you ignore any of that and carry on as best you can.
Cards.

UK fans are already inventing things for Cousin's defense.
There’s apparently a phantom knee to Cousin’s face before thr elbow that justifies everything now.

We get it, Sea ASS.....we get it. Watch the FOOTAGE,
not some unclear high angle camera still..the elbow your thug star threw was clearly intentional. Dude should be interacting in the UFC instead of NCAA…
the supposed "knee"
the moment they snapped that shot he was in the process of rolling over cousins. He wasnt lying on the floor kneeing him.
Coach Cal
was already spinning the hit the face in the post game press conference and he hadn’t even seen it yet. Said their was bumping going on before the game and said ‘you should have heard the stuff I heard’. His slimy snake oil salesman approach makes Pitino seem like a cherubic stock broker. He can tell the blue zombie nation anything (at this point at least) and they will buy it.
Fascism rocks.

Yea i tuned in to the ky radio broadcast when the refs were watching the replays just to see if tom leach and his buddy would admit to cousins obviously needing to be thrown out……They were like oh we knew uofl would try to bait cousins in to something and they did as cousins threw a little minor elbow,,,,,,,,,even uk announcers are pathetic,,,,,,,i thought after all the whining they did over laetners foot stomp that they might be able to admit the same about one of their players,,,,i underestimated how rediculous they really are.
CARDS RULE!!BRONCOS RULE!!GO LAKERS!!!
Cousins?
Call me sensitive but before Cousins threw the elbow heard ’round the world, Bledsoe was clearly using every word in the book while the UK staff attempted to show him a seat on the bench.
What bothers me most about this? In one angle you can see a young girl behind the bench while Bledsoe is clearly “upset” and Coach Cal seemed to be trying to calm him down rather than make a point of telling Bledsoe that such behavior is out of line.
Honestly, I don’t know what happened to make Bledsoe so upset. It doesn’t matter. To me, his reaction was inappropriate.
I coach middle school ball and I’d be embarrassed if one of my players acted like that in front of other kids.
Not everyone on the UK bench was telling him to stop
UK assistant Coach Antigua was in that same background saying “IT’s on now” blah blah blah. Anyone half way decent at reading lips would have been shocked at what Bledsoe was saying with the ref a foot away. I knew at that moment the refs were not in control.
No Excuses
Good win for UK. I think UofL played hard and I believe we are going to be a very dangerous team by the end of the year as usual. I kind of love it too because this is the way Denny did things. I have to say that while by the end of the game Wall, Patterson, and Cousins looked good on paper, I was not overly impressed. They beat us and get all the braggin rights that come with it, but I am not afraid to play them again later in the year.
I respect that
I Cat fan who actually values Mr. Smith. He was a great man, a great leader, and a great coach. He didn’t win a national championship every year, but (wake up fans) nobody does.

I Samardo you to figure that one out…
oh, he pisses me off sometimes…
SS is not making any pros drool
because he’s a head case. Maybe he’ll grow out of it in the next year or two, but usually these things are pretty well set by his age. He’ll get looks because he’s built right, but size is irrelevant in the bigs if you don’t have the ‘tude to complement it. He’ll get abused and badly by any power forward (and even a lot of Guards) in the pros.
Cousins' post game quote
this guy really pissed me off today.
“Just going for a loose ball and it got physical,” Cousins said. “I guess he couldn’t take it. … I don’t know anything about a forearm.”

Pre-game
I know everyone wants to talk about Cousins. But what was up with ULs refusing to come out for the intros and not shaking hands before the game?
Some thoughts
After taking some time, I came to these 5 conclusions.
1) I think the team ran out of gas at the end, and was deflated after they fell behind 5.
2) Our lack of a go to player is killer.
3) Our interior defense is not great, and every team that has beaten us has taken advantage of this fact.
4) I love the heart of this team. The UNLV comeback was epic, and today was great, but we lost both of those games. Our talent level doesn’t match the heart of the team, unlike last year and 2 years ago.
5) Jared Swopshire can be a player. #21 couldn’t really cover Patterson, but he gave all he had and had a very good game on offense. He played with some confidence and I liked it.
I don’t think all of those were conclusions, but let’s pretend they are.
Come backs and gas...
Coming back too often and running outta gas. The key is to NOT get so blasted far behind in the first place!! A couple of layups and a couple of better placed passes instead of turnovers and we never would have been that far behind.

Cousins shouldn't have thrown the elbows....
but he shouldn’t have been ejected either. You guys played great, and if the shoe was on my foot, I’d be screaming bloody murder too. Lots of heart form UL is second half, lots to be proud of.
Cousins was rightfully called for the technical, but it wasn’t an elbow- it was a forearm (hurts a lot less-I know from experience), and it was done while fighting for a loose ball-(as opposed to being on the open court away from the action) He got the “T” that he deserved. Beyond that, you guys had me nervous for most of the second half. That’s the best compliment I can give any team.
What would warrent an ejection in your book?
if Swop had gotten a visible wound from that blow, should he still not have been ejected?
Open elbow in an open court
I know most on here won’t agree, but I saw inappropriate contact while fighting for a ball. that makes it arguable. If Cousins had thrown an elbow at the head in the front court away from the ball-Throw him out. If he had mad an effort to contact Swops head with the point of his elbow in a downward motion while on the ground-Throw him out.
What I saw was an upward movement with a forearm while trying to get position on the ball. That doesn’t mean his contact was warranted. I think he deserved the Technical that he got, but what Cousins did was a far cry from the Laetner Stomp. T him up, but leave him in the game.
All that said, had Swop been the offender, and UK lost. I’d probably be apoplectic about it, so I understand why DeMarcus has become public enemy #1 in Louisville.
How was that "upward motion" with the forearm
helping Cousins get the ball? Cousins did move his forearm upward…toward Swop’s face, then came down with it, smashing his head into the hardwood. A forearm shot, while not an elbow, is still an offensive move, its why you see it so much in MMA. Its meant to cause a lot of damage and knock people out.
You seem to be underplaying it as Swop got up from it and showed no injuries at the time. If he hadn’t, I’m sure you would view it so casually.
Which Is why I say Give him the T
But it’s not worth an ejection.
It is more than a regular foul. I completely agree there. It deserved an unsportsmanlike Technical. Which he got. But no damage to Swop+During a fight for the ball+After being kneed in the face (I think it was unintentional, but Cousins had no way of knowing)= No ejection. All of that still doesn’t make it right, so he deserved the T
Except that is was after the play was over.
the whistle had been blow, and then the forearm came. If you want to bring Swop’s “knee” into the mix, then eject them both.
Clearly we have different views on what is an ejectable action. I view regular fouls as the kinds you see in regular play: swipes at arms, bumps, etc. Techs I see as language and shoving. Ejections I view as over the line, and I place Cousins forearm in that category.
Stay Strong!

I've been posting for a couple of weeks now.
And reading for years. Like I said in another thread, I am a fan of all basketball teams in Kentucky (Just happen to have a preference for my Alma Mater-UK) I root for you guys every other game. But I will now allow you to commiserate amongst yourselves, unless anyone wants to reply-I’m done posting on this thread…
Good game.
Ah yes, I root for both teams and have been a long time lurker. That’s right out of seminar school for flamers. Here’s what you need to do. Hop back in your home, start the engine and drive back to the back water trailer park in which you live. Watch out for tornados in the spring, douche bag!
Wow, I get D-Bagged for saying you guys played well
And should be proud. I didn’t cuss you, disrespect you, or call any Card fans names.
Wonder what you would call me If I said bad stuff about you.
Your team played well. Demarcus did wrong. I am such a flaming douche!
BTW, My favorite part of the game (For Card fans) was seeing Siva in the game. I know he was sick, but you have to admire a guy who overcomes that to help his team.
I’m going to try and avoid using big words so our friends who speak English as a second language can understand. Isn’t it ironic that Kentucky fans who have always attacked Louisville for being an urban school full of tatooed thugs now worship Demarcus Cousins? Whoops, I violated my own promise by using “ironic”.
In all seriousness though, I’m glad Saint John Calapari told the classy UK fans he would walk off the court if their antics got out of hand. Of course, it’s an oxymoron to mention UK fans and class in the same statement. Afterall, the classiest fanbase in America made death threats against Pitino and made racially insensitive statements about Tubby. Damnit, I did it again. I used the word “oxymoron”.
Just to be an equal opportunity basher, I always felt Rick Pitino was one of the most insufferable people I had ever heard. Then I heard John Calapari.
This game really showed that Calipari.....
has no control over his team …… Bledsoe basicly saying shut up coach ima stop talking when I feel like it, Cousins throwing elbows, an assistant coach talking just as much shit on the bench as the players, Just a complete mess…. But on to the cards we knew going into this game the odds were against us but we showed alot of heart in the second half after a horrific start… but the bright spots were we out rebounded one of the best rebounding teams in the country ( not even north carolina could do that and they have a team height average of 6 "9) … our defense was very good, and we showed we have alot of heart by clawing our way back into game….. just think if our offense was on today… Oh and to the kentucky fans I see on this board we just gave the SEC the recepie to beating you… Pitino completly exposed the dribble drive with our matchup zone… yea teams have played zone against you this season but our active matchup zone was a whole different animal…. but hey we will take this on the chin and give up braggin rights for a year and look forward to putting you kitten fans in the cheap seats when you come visit our big beautiful new arena next year…,,,,,,,,,,, GO CARDS

thugtucky fan…lemme create a moniker based on hype!
I guarantee the only thing UK goes all the way to in 2010 is maybe an SEC title..
big props...
before i give out props i want to say that what happened in the first minute of the game was no big deal to me. i’m glad it happened. it showed people out there who doubted this rivalry and how intense it is the truth. nothing matches this game. i felt like Louisville nor Kentucky NEVER settled down. i thought the whole game was played on raw emotion. i don’t think we saw a great UK team and on the other hand I don’t think UK saw a great UL team. props go out to Pitino who had an awesome game plan. The defense was great. even with that god awful 1-18 start we were only down 10. you go against the #3 team in the country in their house and shoot 1-18 your looking at being down 30 not 8. major major props to Swopshire. Samuels…watch and learn from Jared. Swop has the least talent on the floor and he was the ONLY guy doing things positive for us. I asked my friends why the hell was he getting the ball so much but then i realized it looked as if UL was looking for him of all people to bail them out in the first half. There’s your leader of the future boys. I’m serious. Jared Swopshire is the man. Sleeping in the gym, lifting weights while Jennings is getting arrested and Samuels is doing god knows what. Swop has heart and I’ll take that over skill any day.
Finally, I really think this UL team is going to be special. Not final four special but beating teams you shouldn’t, playing with a lot of emotion, and suprising a lot of people. It all starts next week. We outrebounded a team with two lottery picks in the frontcourt with guys named Delk, Swopshire, and Kuric. This years team plays with a lot of emotion and man are they physical, they take no sh*t and I love it. GO CARDS

Never again...
…will I sympathize with the Cats over the Christian Laettner incident. Since moving to ACC country 24 year ago I had learned to hate Duke more than UK. No more. What a low-class bunch of thugs.
I'm going to go ahead and stop this before F bombs start to drop.
To UofK fans: Congratulations on winning this year’s bragging rights. UofL fans are a little hurt right now and are grabbing at straws. Although UofL played perhaps the worst first half of basketball this century, we still feel we could have won this had there been any assemblance of an offense. I think the Cousins tiff was a product of two teams all jacked up Mountain Dew and coming at each other like spider monkeys. A UofL player might have done the same thing in Cousins’ shoes.
To UofL fans: We’ll get them next year. Yes the ‘new look’ Cats were bigger and faster than the last couple years we’ve beat them, but now we know they’re not invincible. They proved highly susceptible to turnovers and bad shooting. UofK knew they had the size advantage and therefore took advantage. Had UofL controlled their emotions early, I think we might have had a different result. This was not the senior leadership I was looking for. However; UofL (as a whole) never backed down from the fight and that says a lot. Stay positive. Good things are coming our way.
