Demling:

The 6-foot-2, 178-pound Woodley graduated high school early and signed an agreement for a scholarship with the Cardinals. He will be eligible to participate in spring practice.

He joins Justin Burke, Adam Froman and Will Stein as the quarterbacks on the U of L roster. All three of those players started games last season for the Cardinals.

Woodley threw for 4,162 yards and 40 touchdowns as a senior at Highland Park and led his team to an 11-2 record. He earned All-State honors and completed the season with a 70.5 completion rate on the season.

We need a good quarterback

although I’m a little surprised Woodley stuck with his commitment. I thought Sanford’s sytem needed a dual-threat QB and from what I’ve read of Woodley, he’s not much of a runner.

However, if the kid can play, I’m glad to have him. All State honors and 40+ passing touchdowns in Texas high school football has to mean something.

Has anyone else heard the rumor Burke is leaving the team?

I don’t remember where I heard it, but I heard it

So we now have 4 QBs, three with experience, and a newbie...

…If Burke leaves, who starts? My guess is that it’s a battle between Froman and Woodley. Given the new system that will be put in place, it’s a toss up. Froman has the edge in age and experience, Woodley is, IMHO, more talented.

Kid looks

like a winner in his 2008 highlight video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7wGPN6Yrus . He makes a lot of smart plays even under pressure.

i hope we redshirt him

even if burke leaves, we’ve got two guys with starting experience at QB. neither of them is very good, but let’s face it…this season is probably going to be a wash anyway. my hope is that rather for striving for instant success, charlie uses this season to lay a solid (almost said strong) foundation. if you redshirt most of this year’s pretty-good recruiting class and give them a year to bulk up and learn a new system, think of the talent influx that comes when next year’s really-good freshman class joins them!

Plus

if we don’t have a decent season, who’s to say players will want to come next year.

He needs a Strong first season

to show the world he can be a head coach. 6-6 will do if we get to go to the international bowl. Anything better will be amazing.

I understand you're being realistic.

But honestly, while I don’t expect anything more than a 6-6 season, even better wouldn’t be completely ridiculous. We were 4-8 this season, with a fewl close and winnable games (read: UK), a largely incompetent coaching staff, and arguably the worst class in a decade.

Next year we’ll have a whole new coaching staff, several good young players, not to mention a revitalized fanbase and good energy. On the other hand, our schedule is arguably tougher, so it’s really a toss up. Again, I’m not expecting an above .500 season, but I, like many, saw a lot of wasted talent on the field this season, and if Strong can develop that talent and add heart, I wouldn’t be surprised by a 7-5 or even 8-4 season.

You also have to remember that it's a new system for EVERYONE.

Everyone is going to have to adjust to a new system, both on offense and defense. I think the offensive end will take more time to get comfortable with and as a result we may start slower than people want to.

At any rate, all I’ve seen from Coach Strong shows me that he’s going to develop these kids in the right way, freshmen and seniors alike. I don’t expect or want to venture a record, but I do expect our players to play tough and play for the win in every game we play. This shift in mental philosophy alone should prove enough for our fanbase this season.

If Coach Strong can coach

and I really hope that he can. I predict we can be right below or at the battle for the Big East title next year. We had talent on the team this year and the past two years. We just didn’t have a coach. With Cincy bringing in a new coach, S. Florida new coach, WVU new QB, Pitt new QB, basically there are lot of teams that will be experiencing some changes next year. Hopefully our changes are for the better.

Luke Use the Force

if Luke wins the job as starter believe me the others that are there will begin to transfer out before season begins. This kid is good. stands tall in the pocket and can run not fast but can run. uses the option well like Florida does. he is a system guy we need. Froman would be the only guy to really compete for the starting job. Burke has lot’s of heart just not fastenough to get things done. Stein love him.but just way to small to do what is needed to get done. Also in this point we have some of the sickest running backs here and coming in this year all with speed and power. The defense will get the ball back and we shall be on the way to the first bowl game in 3 years.GO CARDS!!! GO Strong!!!!!

Well, at least his DUI will not matter as much to Charlie, as it did to the charm school instructor Kragthorpe………
