I have no idea how good UNLV is
but I think that’s the game we are going to lose early in the season that will make everyone go crazy. They are the new Dayton
UNLV will be a good road test
They lost 3 of their 4 top scorers from last year including the heart of their team, Wink Adams, and the guy that killed us last December, Rene Rougeau…so on paper they don’t appear to be as good as last year.
They have a lot of guys coming back though who’ve had experience and they didn’t need Wink to beat us last year (he was injured)…in Freedom Hall no less. Their guards will be good and UNLV loves to play the underdog role. Coach Kruger’s teams can be effective when allowed to set their own tempo; they play a great switching defense that confused the crap out of us last year and they rarely make mistakes as evidenced by their stellar assist to turnover ratio last season. This is why they’ll be a threat to any nonconference foe, especially at home.
Louisville beat the Rebels by 20 at UNLV two seasons ago just days before the Cards would lose painfully to BYU in the 2007 Vegas Invitational, hijacking what was hyped all Summer to be an UofL v. UNC final. And by painful, I mean I cried into my beer as BYU fans celebrated all around me.
Louisville should be somewhere around a 6 or 7 point favorite and this should be a matchup where Samardo and TJ can do some damage and put UNLV away early. If not, it could be a long night much like last year’s game.

Cool beans
But I must say I’m slightly disappointed not to see another Marques Maybin Classic on this year’s schedule. I mean, who needs the Hall of Fame Showcase anyway?

Arkansas Game
Ok, I’ve seen this movie before. I would consider the first game vs. Arkansas as an automatic loss for a Pitino-coached UofL team.
Arkansas...
Have you SEEN what is going on in Fayetteville?
That program is in absolute shambles. We should beat them by 20+.
"It's not the South, it's not Chicago, and you don't think of it as you think of New York or L.A. It has some Southern romanticism to it, but also a Northern progressivism, this weird urban island in the middle of the state of Kentucky...For us, Louisville and the surrounding areas are the center of massive creativity and massive weirdness." - Jim James, My Morning Jacket

Lazy December
No away games the entire month…should be on a nice winning streak heading into Lexington.

GameDay?
Looks like Syracuse lines up perfectly for GameDay – that’s the last game at Freedom Hall right?
That would make sense and be a perfect send off.
But alas, UofL’s website lists the game as 2:00. In fact, all of the game times indicate that we won’t have any Game Day appearances this year, home or away. The home UC game and away Pitt game are both TBA, but neither seems like the marquee match up that will make it.

I may cry
The last game at Freedom Hall will be chilling. I was there for the first one. And more chilling is that UofL wants to more than double my donation for my seats in the new arena. That has me sobbing.
if you don't cry
you’re not doing it right

CB, you saw THE FIRST GAME at the Hall???
It’s time to write some sir…
it’s time for us all to write—about our most memorable experiences in the Hall and what is has meant to us
For me…many of the top moments in my life have occurred there, and I can luckily still turn them on in my mind’s eye when I want
and as those highlights run, Darrell soars higher than ever, Poncho is even more hilariously off the wall, Memphis State’s Fred Horton is swingin’ that chair wilder,
and Lancaster and Milt are dunking UK into Dream Game oblivion
time and again, time and again….
I go back to the Armory
My parents took me to games as a very young kid. We would go to Saturday night games there and on the way home my father would stop at the State Liquor store in St. Matthews to buy the early edition of the Sunday paper. It really confused me that he could buy a Sunday paper on Saturday night.
When UofL started playing in the Hall it was not on a full time basis, only a part of the schedule. Probably the bigger games which figured to draw more people to offset the additional cost.
Even when we were full time in the Hall there were exceptions. I remember scheduling conflicts caused us to have to move back to the Armory to play Vandy. This was when Jan Van Bradakoff (no clue on that spelling) was playing there so perhaps his father Butch was the coach.
I suppose my favorite moment was when we played Memphis in the conference tourny inI guess 85-86. I have a frat brother living in Memphis who asked if I could get him better seats than he could get there. I asked how many do you want. Nearly fainted when he said 21. Turns out his whole damned law firm and wives were coming. I was nervous with that much on my credit card until he paid me. We had to sit with all these Memphis yahoos. That was the game either Turner or Perry (they had back to back little point guards that blur together) missed the front end of the one and one with a one point lead in the last seconds. We got the rebound, Ice came down the floor, got fouled by the little twerp and nailed his free throws. We win and three Memphis wives around us were crying. God, I loved beating Memphis!
great perspective, cb
I can’t remember much about my first experience in Freedom Hall but I know it involved heavy doses of Everick Sullivan and Cornelius Holden…I can still smell the cigarettes and beer.
We’ll have to open up a thread for Hall-related memories when the time comes near to say goodbye.

Just for clarification
The Milt free throws were the last regular season game. The Metro tournament was at Freedom Hall the following week, and we blew Memphis State off the floor that game, with about 12,000 UofL fans and 7,000 Memphis state fans yelling back and forth.
Upon further review
You are right. It was the blow out (10 points?) when they were up here crying. But either way I just love beating the school that in my mind will always be Memphis State.
2 years in a row
I can’t wait to see WKU hand it to Lville again this year. This one will be even sweeter considering its the last year for Freedom Hall.
