I do not expect Rick Pitino to resign or temporarily step aside at his 3 p.m. press conference today.

I wouldn't worry about it

If he didn’t quit right after this hit the fan, he’s not going to quit now.

First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

Probably going to start talking about this case, and rebuttle what Sypher had said in the recordings…Layin it down.

by Final4Galore on Aug 26, 2009 2:26 PM EDT reply actions

yea but i don’t think he has spoken on it yet has he?

by Final4Galore on Aug 26, 2009 2:49 PM EDT up reply actions

No

And he and Steve Pence have both said they won’t until the trial.

by Mike Rutherford on Aug 26, 2009 2:51 PM EDT up reply actions

Fingers crossed..

…that he just announces the 2009-10 schedule.

Also...

..watch the counter at the bottom next to the LIVE icon for the number of viewers. It is at 1823 right now.

Someone

keep us updated for those who can not view this…

by Final4Galore on Aug 26, 2009 2:58 PM EDT reply actions

Says he wasn't going to say anything until trial....

…but wants to say something because of the nature of the allegations.

by CardsFan922 on Aug 26, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions

Not leaving

Ripping the media for covering Sypher tapes on the day Ted Kennedy died.

by Mike Rutherford on Aug 26, 2009 3:01 PM EDT reply actions

Yikes

This is the strongest he’s ever come out on this thing.

by CardsFan922 on Aug 26, 2009 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

Why

I thought he apologized to the media last time, and now he is angry? seems like a step in getting over something….step 4 depression…..step 5 anger

by Final4Galore on Aug 26, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

I don't blame him for being angry

but he probably shouldn’t be showing it.

by Dais on Aug 26, 2009 3:06 PM EDT reply actions

Wow

Do you think someone waved him off?

by Dais on Aug 26, 2009 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

So...

…that just happened.

by CardsFan922 on Aug 26, 2009 3:07 PM EDT reply actions

No idea why that just happened

The story is dying down so you hold a press conference to tell people to stop paying attention it?

Interesting?

by Mike Rutherford on Aug 26, 2009 3:09 PM EDT reply actions

Maybe a fear....

…the national media would play the tapes and that would be the story?

They’ll be playing that press conference again. It was no “Larry Bird ain’t walking through that door” but it was pretty unusual and not normally how press conferences like that go.

by CardsFan922 on Aug 26, 2009 3:11 PM EDT up reply actions

I agree

No one really cared about the tapes anyway. Is it an ego thing that he felt he had to say something?

The more he tries to control it

the more it will rage out of control

STOP talking Rick

by frankpos on Aug 26, 2009 3:13 PM EDT reply actions

i'm speechless

that was an ill-advised move when this mess was about to blow over.

welcome back to the headlines, rick.

by doctorofdunk on Aug 26, 2009 3:13 PM EDT reply actions

I wonder what ticked him off

There had to be something to get him going like that.

Go Cards!

by Red Rage on Aug 26, 2009 3:15 PM EDT reply actions

I disagree with you folks

1) “It’s all a lie” – damn right
2) “It hasn’t hurt recruiting one bit” – good
3) “We’ve been a ‘top ten’ program the last two years” – and that will continue

Some things require a response – and he responded. Stations have been ‘breaking in’ today with the tapes of her police interviews. That is not breaking news, and that was his point.

I’m with Coach.

How so?

His career, his reputation and his life that he has built are on the line because he had sex with a person bent on destroying him.

It’s time to stand up and be heard.

by BR7 on Aug 26, 2009 3:20 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed mike

the strangest part to me was saying that the university had told him to keep quiet, but that he felt it was time to speak WITH THE UNIVERSITY WALLPAPER behind him. the tone was way off from what it should have been. it’s time to move on and support him, but whoever said he needs to shut his mouth is 100 pct correct.

by doctorofdunk on Aug 26, 2009 3:20 PM EDT reply actions

Seldom is the reaction good , when you chastise the media

and tell them not ot report things.

He didn’t like the press today—SHEESH, tomorrow he will be grilled nationally in the news, I’m afraid

by frankpos on Aug 26, 2009 3:29 PM EDT reply actions

What I don't understand

The media in Louisville knew about these allegations months ago but chose not to report them because they didn’t think they were credible. What has changed since then to make them credible? I don’t blame Rick for getting a little more aggressive.

by centrecard on Aug 26, 2009 3:31 PM EDT reply actions

All I can say is...

…for a man so calculated, and who holds a high regard on his words and carefully places his statements, that was one of the most poorly called press conferences I have seen. There was no reason for him to do that. It brings more attention to the situation. Louisville and national media will have a field day with what we just saw.

Oh well, at least we have football season…Wait, can The Krag have something like this occur so we can rightfully run him out of town? Start gameplanning!

I don't think I understood one part

Didn’t he say that he was standing up for “a long laundry list of people who passed away today?” What does that mean?

by Dais on Aug 26, 2009 3:35 PM EDT reply actions

I understand the frustration for him

Fox 41 had that tape for awhile and then only decided to air it after the news broke. Prior to that they thought she was flat out looney and that they’d never get away with airing it. It’s also frustraiting to watch the commercials for that’s nights reel and the anchor says something like "You’ll never believe what new allegations there are.’ It’s all been a little much, especially now that it’s fairly obvious she’ll say anything she can to be on camera now.

With all that being said, there had to be a better way to do this.

by dlpfis79 on Aug 26, 2009 3:41 PM EDT reply actions

The initial reports from the national media seem to be favorable. I don’t think Rick pulled a Mike Gundy here.

by centrecard on Aug 26, 2009 4:10 PM EDT reply actions

The fact that there are again national reports is the problem

Pitino just took what is a continuing local story and made it a national one again. Perhaps the tapes would have been given attention by ESPN and SI anyway, but Pitino guaranteed it with this mindless rant. Ted Kennedy?

Kenny Klein must be beside himself right not. Coach, there was a reason the university asked you to keep quiet. Anger doesn’t help; blaming the media doesn’t help. They kept quiet for a long, long time about this story — a story, by the way, in which there appears to be no good guys.
