They left

When Petrino and then RichRod left the recruiting and coaching at the top of the league left too. Their replacements have suffered a dropoff and no one else has stepped up to fill the void. Hope things turn, especially here.

Big Least

This is a weak league and will continue to be a weak league until you get some big-time coaches. In basketball, you have (offcourt indiscretions notwithstanding) Pitino, Huggins, Boeheim, Calhoun, Jamie Dixon, Jay Wright. In football, who in America, not just in the eastern third of the country, can name more than three coaches? No offense to Brian Kelly, but if he’s less than three calendar years removed from the MAC and he’s your marquee guy, you have an identity crisis. But like all things in all sports, this is cyclical, and the conference will be a player again in a few years probably.

Wow

What a very sobering analysis. How profound.

Thank you for that contribution.

Moron.

Jesus H....

Must we endure this gibberish all season long?

Why do UK fans enjoy coming onto U of L fan sites like this…I’ll never understand. I guess I have a life…

truth hurts

In general terms he is right. There are a lot of “name” coaches BE basketball and that cannot be said for football. In fact if you bring up Wanstadt and Levitt as names there is a big “but” right afterwards. Sometimes reality hurts.

it is a good post

i just don’t know if coach coopthorpe is up to be the next marquee big east coach. yah, pretty sure he is not.

and if you get time, check out the guys website, onegreatseason.com. he is about to start a pretty cool college football project, one i think we would all want to do.

I see they matched the Coach's SEC love

… but I’ll guarantee you right now that there will be a Big East team in the final regular season top 15 (because it’s virtually impossible that Rutgers won’t be; someone else might win the Big East, but Rutgers won’t be worse than 10-2 given their schedule) and there will not be more than 3 SEC teams in the top 15. As opposed to the five that are there right now (they do realize that most of these guys will play each other, and somebody has to lose, right?).
