Kragthorpe on the Hot Hot Seat

Mark Schlabach at ESPN.com says Coach Kragthorpe sits on the 3rd hottest seat in Div I Football:

HOT

3. Steve Kragthorpe, Louisville
Louisville athletic director Tom Jurich insists 2009 isn't a "make-it-or-break-it" season for Kragthorpe. But after compiling an 11-13 record in his first two seasons at Louisville, Kragthorpe probably needs to at least lead the Cardinals to a bowl game, something he failed to do in 2007 and '08.

Kragthorpe inherited a program that won 41 of 50 games under former coach Bobby Petrino. The 2008 Louisville team, led by record-setting quarterback Brian Brohm, finished 6-6. The Cardinals were even worse last season, finishing 5-7 and losing their last five games, including an ugly 63-14 defeat against Rutgers in the finale.

The odds are stacked against Louisville to finish with a winning record in 2009. The schedule is very difficult, with road games at rival Kentucky, Utah, Cincinnati, West Virginia and South Florida. Although Jurich has a lot of faith in Kragthorpe, Cardinals fans want to start seeing some positive results.

But you wouldn't think so if you attended Thursday's Football Kickoff luncheon. Julie Hermann, UofL's executive senior associate athletic director who was standing in for AD Tom Jurich who recently had eye surgery, spewed the following quote during her comments at the luncheon:

"I am absolutely convinced, today more than ever, that we have the finest football coach in America..."

Really, Julie? The finest football coach in America? On a Thursday? The Card Chron staff just booked your lasik appointment, sweetie...

My first reaction.....

….when I saw this: there are two coaches on hotter seats? Without clicking on the link, I’m going to guess maybe the Wannstache….maybe the guy at UVA?

Okay, now I looked: Charlie Weis. How could I forget?

No way Groh is on a hotter seat

I just graduated from Virginia, and trust me, no coach is more frustrating than Al Groh. (The Screen pass is the extent of the passing in his offense.) He’d give Koack a run for most Koachspeak in his post-game press conferences. He also can’t recruit any in-state players. But Groh just sign a HUGE extension before last year and just turned over most of his staff. Plus Craig Littlepage, who is the AD at Virginia seems to love Groh. So while Groh’s seat is hot, Virginia has a cupcake non-conference schedule and will probably go to a bowl. So in my humble opinion, Krag’s should be above him.

That seems to be an insult to our intelligence

I mean come on. I get pumping up your coach (stop it) , but Good Lord. Stop acting like your selling us nationalized health care.

Go Cards!

Nice.

I cant believe you got this post on here for this many days and no one jumped on the national health care comment. Maybe that means fewer people care about that than they do UL football.

cheeringleading

I wasn’t there (guess why - hint: first letter is a K) so I am wondering was Ms. Hermann wearing a cheerleader outfit?

Steve Kragthorpe is the most electrifying coach in NCAA football. You can’t say he’s not.

Julie Hermann Comment

I mean, c’mon. Do you think were completely stupid or just very stupid. Ugh. That comment seriously makes me ill how someone could make that statement and simply assume that the naive heads in the crowd will just keep nodding.

Not to belabor the point, but is Julie saying that if Urban Meyer called and was interested in the job that she wouldn’t take the call because we have KRAG?

That comment is insulting and makes me ill.

THIS DEBACLE AS A HEAD COACH COUPLED WITH PITINO’S “INDISCRATIONS”, DO NOTHING FOR THE ENHANCEMENT OF U OF L’S REPUTATION. I THINK OUR AD SHOULD ADDRESS THE ISSUES INSTEAD OF HIDING HIS HEAD IN THE SAND. (I UNDERWENT EYE SURGERY, MYSELF LAST YEAR, AND DIDN’T USE IT AS AN EXCUSE TO NOT PERFORM MY DUTIES.

KRAG WILL BE HERE TWO MORE YEARS AT MINIMUM. HIS SON, A JUNIOR, WAS NAMED TRINITY’S STARTING QB. CAPICE?
