Ragones prediction?
Was anybody else shocked when this guy said we could win 9-10 games this year...?
in a way at first reading it i was like... man this guy is trippin...
but look at the schedule... and you really have to hope we can at least comepete with the teams we are playing... UTAH is a loss no matter what...
but i think we have a VALID shot at getting 7 wins...

not a chance.
Sorry to be a little pessimistic, but we just don’t have the talent on the offensive and defensive lines to get the job done. If Krags can’t win more than 1 Big East game with Brohm, Eric Wood, etc., what do you think he’ll do without him? I see 4 wins at very best. I hope we do well, but at the same time, if we lose a few games and we get a new coach, it may be better for the program in the long run. GO CARDS!

What I want to know
Is what are the 2-3 games on our schedule that Ragone thinks there is no way we can win. I mean, to say we can win 9-10 means we would have to be pretty damn good, but apparently even if we are that good there are still 3 juggernauts on our schedule that we can’t take down. If we win 9-10 games that would put us in the top 25 by season’s end and possibly somewhere around the top 15. Whats more is that if there are 2-3 teams on our schedule so clearly better than what Ragone believes we can be then they would end up in the top 10. I don’t believe that we’ll be play 3 top 10 teams this season.
I really think he just threw that out there as fodder for discussion and he did so without any real analysis. From what I can see, our schedule is made up of a bunch of average teams, of which none other than Utah seem poised for anything spectacular. Maybe that’s what Ragone sees as well. He may think that an average U of L team could knock out 9-10 of the jokers on our schedule, but what he’s missing is that we are not even an average team this year.
We may have average talent but we are way physically undersized for Big East play at virtually every position, especially RB, DL, and LB and on top of that we will be completely outmatched by even the most inept coaching staffs out there (I’m talking about you Wanstache). What’s more is that again we are very thin (numbers -wise) on the defensive side of the ball and as the season drags on more freshman and JuCos will be called into action, which will lead to a slide much like last year. The lack of recruiting for the past 3 years is going to continue to kill us. Where Petrino used crush teams in the second halves, we will again just try to survive coming down the homestretch of games and the season s a whole. It seems like we’ve turned into the Vanderbilt (the best three-quarter team in the SEC) of the Big East.
Our best hope is to win 2 of our first 3, beat Southern Miss and Ark St, and try to squeak out 2 Big East wins. This would get us to 6 wins. I hope I am wrong and that all of the unheralded players on our roster can step up and play with the big boys.
Like I said, aside rom Utah, no one on our schedule really scares me. The proverbial carrot is hanging right in front of our faces, but do we have enough sense to just reach out there and grab it?

What I want to know
Dave’s ratings must be down.
Nine to ten wins? There is no way in the world.

Undersized for Big East play?
We have a 6-7 wide receiver, as well as a handful of others over 6’ tall. Our running backs are no smaller than Steve Slaton, Ray Rice, Donald Brown, or any other top Big East backs of the last few years. I don’t see how our linebackers are undersized either. Dempsey, Campa, Axson, Heyman, Heath, etc. are all big enough to play in the Big East. They were arguably the strong point of our D last year.
Our lines however, look pathetic.
I think we’re 6-6 this year, but could be anywhere between 4-8 wins.

Ragone
I mean, what can you say about this. I figured 5 wins, at most, but someone picking the Cards to win 9-10 games is hilarious. Kragthorpe hasn’t shown he can coach a team to play consistently. The biggest hole on the team is the FG kicking, UofL will once again struggle from inside the opponents 30 yd line. You can’t win if you can’t score. Also notice that UofL will play 11 games in a row, the last 3 games UofL will be gassed, UofL might lose to Syracuse again, but USF and Rutgers are as good as gold for losses.

I remain cautiously optimistic.
But secretly depressed. And that’s all I have to say about that.

Flashback
Ragone is just having a flashback to the John L undefeated predictions where we finished something like 7-5. Using that same math of going from 12-0 to 7-5 his 9-10 win prediction gets us back to a more reasonable assessment for the season results.

KICKING GAME
WE DON’T HAVE ONE. I THINK ANY OF THE WOMEN ON THE SOCCER TEAM COULD EMBARRASS OUR KICKERS. HOW DO YOU GO FROM ART CARMODY TO NOT EVEN TRYING TO RECRUIT A KICKER? THAT KID FROM MIDDLESBORO WHO COULD KICK 55 YARDERS SIGNED WITH WKU AND WE NEVER GAVE HIM A LOOK.
