Before our Indiana game I got a phone call from someone in Louisville they said a young girl named Heather wanted to come to one of the games but she can't! The reason was because she had cancer. Heather is only 12 years old but she has leukemia in the blood. I was told that she had the opportunity to meet Hannah Montana but she said I really just want to meet Angel McCoughtry. I was in shock this young girl picked to meet me over Hannah Montana and I'm sure she could have easily picked someone else. It really touched my heart because when you play a sport you really don't know the impact it can have on people and the way you carry yourself. When I called her I could hear the joy in her voice but the pain as well. I said to her that as soon as I get some free time I would pay her a visit. I sent some signed shirts and gifts immediately. I know the doctors say she doesn't have long to live but I believe she does. And I'm asking all of you to pray for Heather as I will pray for her every night in my prayers. Before I got to know Heather I was very frustrated because I wasn't getting a lot of playing time. I would be the first one in the gym and the last one to leave, I would lift extra and do everything coach asked me to do but I still couldn't figure out why I wasn't playing. But after meeting Heather I realized my problems just aren't that bad and I am truly blessed! God has a plan for us all. So I have come to realize that I'm not playing basketball for my own personal statistics, but for the love of the game and who you can inspire. This one is for Heather. And any other child out there suffering. -- Angel McCoughtry

What a lesson learned
What a lesson you learned Angel. Your time is coming they can not hold a talent such as yours back for long. Continue learning and be the biggest gym rat there is, they can deny your work ethic. Angel continues to be a class act and reaching out to help Heather just proves that Angel is what she is and enough said!
