New 2010 FB Recruit: OLB Cleo Robinson

Cleo_robinson_medium

Kragthorpe added his 9th recruit to the 2010 Class when HS Senior-to-be Cleo Robinson verbally committed to the Cardinals on Friday. Robinson will switch from his current DE position to play LB his Senior year, the position he was recruited to play at UofL. As a DE for Paul Vi HS in New Jersey, he notched 84 tackles and 17 sacks his Junior season.

At 6'2", 220 lbs, Robinson is only a 1-star LB recruit but boasts blue chip upside in the classroom, where he will begin his Sr. year with a 3.8 GPA. The CC staff is still scanning microfiche at the UARC (University Archive and Records Center) but we're confidently projecting Robinson as the first football recruit to choose UofL over the Ivy League's Penn and Harvard for academic reasons (engineering program). Kragthorpe also outhustled an offer from Temple and interest from schools such as Rutgers, Maryland, Pitt and 'Nova to snatch Cleo's oral commitment.

Are you kidding me?

“outhustled Temple”???? interest from Nova? Do they even have a football team? “blue chip upside in the classroom”???? I had that and no one was giving me a FOOTBALL scholarship for it.

This is where we are now. A 1 star player thats a good student. Nice. I cant wait to see how our GPA stacks up against the BCS champs in the coming years.

As usual

I think its great that we are recruiting good, smart kids. The problem is that most of these kids as football players are described as having potential. For a class of 15-22 players to be a good class, not a great class but just a good class, we cannot have the entire class fall into that catagory. We need some players who are already players instead of ones we hope will be come players.

Some of our recruits hopefully will become players but when we can’t seem to land a player who is being recruited by a top 50 program it says something is seriously wrong with our staff and it’s recruiting abilities.

Okay, this is becoming very annoying

People need to start understanding something, because it seems like there is a new post on either ITV or elsewhere always complaining about or questioning the recruiting of a “ONE STAR RECRUIT.” People should know this by now, but apparently don’t, so….

A ONE STAR RECRUIT MEANS THAT THE RECRUIT HAS NOT BEEN EVALUATED BY THE RECRUITING SERVICE. IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE ONLY GOOD ENOUGH TO ACHIEVE ONE OUT OF A POTENTIAL FIVE STARS. IF THEY HAVE BEEN EVALUATED, THEY WILL GET A RANKING BETWEEN TWO AND FIVE STARS. ONE STAR BY THEIR NAME MEANS THEY HAVE NOT BEEN EVALUATED YET. NOTHING MORE.

When was the last time....

A team that was relevant was full of players that had “not been evaluated”? Does this make them better than 3 and 4 star recruits but they have just not been found yet? I’m sure its possible but its certainly not probable. In today’s world, getting video and an evaluation on relevant players is how many people make their living. You can defend the recruiting approach all you want but stating that “1 star” doesnt really mean anything because the player hasnt been evaluated is a weak arguement. In this line of thought, I am a 1 star recruit too. Slow 39 year olds dont make great players but what the hell, I havent been evaluated so I still have potential to be great!

People need to calm down.

At least the guy’s recruiting somebody without JuCo next to their name.

On another note, too bad I won’t get to see this guy around Speed school since I’ll be graduated by then. i wish best of luck to him, but I’ll be very surprised if he manages to last juggling Speed School and football. Speed teachers don’t tend to care too much about your extracurricular commitments.
