JETS CLAIM URRUTIA
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on June 25, 2009, 7:56 p.m.While most NFL teams take a vacation, the Jets are staying active on the waiver wire.
Hours after claiming cornerback Rashad Barksdale (no relation to Avon), Gang Green claimed former Bengals wideout Mario Urrutia, according to Scout.com’s Adam Caplan.
Urrutia, who measures at 6′6″, was a seventh-round pick by Cincinnati in 2008 after an up and down career at Louisville. He was a phenom as a freshman and sophomore, but disappeared after Bobby Petrino left for the NFL.
The Jets are lacking depth at wideout, but Urrutia looks like a long shot to make the roster after failing to make it to July with Cincinnati.
