Open Thread: T-Will and Earl Livin' The Dream
Congrats to T-Will and Earl, you've worked hard, you've earned it. Everyone, feel free to share thoughts, running commentary, jokes about outfits, reaction, etc., when the draft starts at 7:30.
Apparently Pitino will be in the Green Room with T-Will. I imagine Pitino will still be the best dressed in there.

T-Will to Nets?
ESPN.com reporting that since the Nets shipped Vince Carter to Orlando, they will take T-Will at 11. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4287197
I have no idea if the Nets are a good fit for him. Seems like Alston and Lee are both quality players, and that would mean T-Will would play the 3?
At least he’ll be able to constantly remind teammate Brook Lopez about the beatdown in Rupp.
zero love for either of our boys
on the ESPN “pre draft special” intro vid clips
Its all Griffin, Thabeet, Rubio, Flynn, Lawson, Hansbrough, and Evans..
IMO
TWill goes lottery it will be outstanding. Iknow he deserves it, but seriously..talk about a player that has totally earned it..
Very loud crowd tonight.
On another note, I was not aware until a few hours ago that T-Will had kids. I mean, I’m not shocked, but I am surprised that I just now heard about it.
Yes, very good point...
…I saw that and was embarrassed for a second and was like, everyone must know that I’m an idiot.
Crazy that not once in 4 years was that mentioned, especially the number of times we were on ESPN and how many times T-Will got profiles done towards the end of the season.
Did you guys hear about Earls kids much?
one here and one on the way from what I understand

Nothing at all about that....
…I heard the rumor during the season about Sosa having a kid but I think someone else said that was BS.
just another example of the fine journalism done by the crappier-journal
twill plays and starts four years for louisville basketball as one of its most-loved all time players and we never learn a single thing about his family. it takes an SI article at the end of his senior season to tell us his dad is dead which is a huge source of motivation for him and now a draft day reveal that he has a family of his own. awesome work, CJ. and you wonder why you’ll be out of business within 5 years.
If anyone has....
….2 hours to kill, check out Sports Guy’s long piece yesterday about the Clippers/Griffin. It ain’t pretty.
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090624&sportCat=nba
He's got a big body and is athletic....
….I think we’re all just biased based on that one game.
If he develops an outside shot he’ll be pretty tough I imagine.
Thabeet
I think he’s probably the first flame-out from this top 10. He could dominate in college but I don’t think he has the skills to translate to the NBA.
I agree
Hate to repeat BIlas..but “he can block shots, the rest I dont know”

Rubio played in Spain.
He can pass the ball like crazy (in Spain), but from what I’ve heard he’s not much of a shooter, nor is he much of a scorer in general.
But he does make some amazing to passes.
yeah..maybe the reason so many NBA
could haves/should haves play overseas..?

I just made the "pay cut" joke to my wife (UK fan)
Classic.
Anyway, I wonder if he’ll really be an NBA point guard? I wonder how this affects Garcia? Luckily I’ll never have to watch Evans play since I don’t think the Kings are ever on TV.
yeah thats one of the reasons I hate Cisco being a King
theyre never on TV..
Evans is in the same boat for me as Thabeet re: first round flameouts..
Sorry to post whore..
This is stellar being a part of a “game” chat again. Im still reeling from our season cut short..if you can believe it
One dimensional..
would have been a great fit on a Cal coached team.
Seriously I do think he is a good player…but 6th?

He may get pushed back to late first round or second round
There was a good article on misconceptions about Earl a few days ago. Teams just don’t think he’s going to work hard.
He seems to have dropped...
…since workouts. I think teams will look back regretfully at passing on him.
yeah...I think Earl has tremendous upside
If he slips to Cisco range, like Sacramento- whoever gets him is getting a serious steal…

Because he's not that good.
Did you see all his terrible plays during the game against us? Don’t get me wrong, that was a fantastic game for us, but the guy isn’t as strong as he should be at his size.
I agree 10000000000%
Jordan Hill is almost as much of a hoax as Chase Buddinger

They're pretty much fighting each other.
So what ever team is looking for that type of player will take one or the other.
Ive read that
but no way Henderson is more of a complete player..TWIll is the entire package

so how long has it been since the ville has had a lottery pick?
Greg Minor/Samaki Walker era?
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 8:43 PM EDT up reply actions
Reece
didn’t go lottery. He was 15th to the magic. Samaki was our last lottery pick. 9th to the Mavs. Reece was a total bust, which I somewhat anticipated, while Samaki, while not coming close to living up to his expectations, had a solid enough 10 year career as a role player and was an on and off starter on one of the Shaq-Kobe Lakers teams that won it all.
I am very optimistic that T-Will could be a star. He has to much passion for the game not too. His passion for the game reminds me of Francisco, who is a very good NBA player, but with far more athleticism. I think Earl’s talents will keep him in the league awhile, but he needs to be willing to learn, because with work, he could become a Rashard Lewis-type player.
They should have given him a longer interview....
…..he’s got the most personality of any first rounder BY FAR.
TWill is officially a millionare..awesome
you deserve it TWIll…congrats

Called it.
To be honest, I would have rather seen T-Will go there. They play defense ball, and it would have been so much more enjoyable to follow that team.
well, hopefully the nets will be on TV so we can watch him
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 8:46 PM EDT up reply actions
NBA fan, really?
I havent watched NBA since the Jordan era. Born and raised Chicago native..
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions
I watched a little this year.
Mostly playoffs, but I followed the regular season as well. Really looking to get into it more next year, and my made my Cavs decision last year. Got to stick with it.
I DEFINITELY would have taken
Blair over Hansbrough
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 8:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Blair's too small.
Still wouldn’t have taken Hansbrough though. This has “Larry Byrd” written all over it.
Just found out that the Nets traded for Courtney Lee (WKU) today. Two Kentucky guys on that team now. Getting hard not to follow them.
Wow, didn't expect Earl to go there.
Guess they need to replace the Shaq-less front court? Not sure E5 will give that to them.
Ill still never forget the dismantling of the Lopez bros
by Caracter and Clark in the NCAAs…
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 9:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Well, that covers it for me.
Not enough good players (not to mention players I care about) to continue watching. Two lottery picks ain’t bad folks.
Peace out.
this is bullshit..snub Earl for the prima donna
Oh well…Im done bitchin
Pumped two Cards go Lottery…WOOT
GO CARDS!!
Im scared of the thought of football game chats..
see you guys then
by twistedwedge on Jun 25, 2009 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions
FYI... Earl Clark wasn't there, or he would've been interviewed.
Any snubbing he did to himself by not being there.
Yeah my buddy told me that
after I logged off..wonder why he wasnt there? I would think all potential pros would be eager to attend..

PR move
A lot of experts saw him sliding on draft boards to the back of the 2nd round so his handlers probably advised him not to show up so that he wouldn’t be the last guy sitting there with cameras in his face every pick that passed him up. Remember Brady Quinn a couple years ago?
Why he was sliding on team’s boards is a good question. I would speculate Phoenix was the most likely team to take him and perhaps they wanted someone else that the experts thought would be available still at the 14th pick. If Phoenix didn’t take him then, I think a lot of people thought he’d slip at least 5, maybe even 10 more picks, leading to a Brady Quinn scenario.

addendum
…typically only players who are 99% sure they’ll be lottery picks (Top 14) will show up in person for the reasons mentioned above.

Can't understand why Minnesota took 3 PGs.
Very strange. Maybe they’re going with a new 5 PG offense? We’ll see how that works.
here is a story
i asked jerry smith on twitter if it was true if he and t-will got in a fight at practice last season and he told me to delete it in a direct message. should i do it? more importantly, that means it’s true right?
Yeah
I’d delete it if the guy doesn’t want to talk about it. Fights happen in practice all the time with a bunch of teams. Glad they made up and were able to play together well.
Nets
Now have Lee and T-Will. Lee is a local guy I have always liked and T-Will is obviously the man, probably my all time favorite Card. Now that they’re on a big market team, they will be on TV a lot. I will be paying close attn to NJ next year. Plus Devin Harris is a stud. They are a pretty young team though. It’ll be the first time I look forward to an NBA season in a while. And Shaq + Lebron is going to be awesome.
