Wojnarowski: Pitino interested in Sacramento job
Wha wha what?
Rick Pitino has emerged as a candidate for the Sacramento Kings’ coaching job, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Pitino has communicated his interest in a possible NBA return to Kings ownership, sources say, and one league official describes the Maloof family as “intrigued.”
It is believed that Pitino intermediaries initiated the contact. No Kings offer is imminent and so far conversations have been exploratory in nature.
Sources caution that there are significant hurdles that need to be cleared before Pitino could become Sacramento’s coach, but say for a variety of reasons Pitino is feeling the pull of the pros again.
Turn off the water, put down the toaster and read on.
Kings co-owner Gavin Maloof denied that the Kings have spoken with Pitino, but several NCAA and NBA sources strongly insist that Pitino has talked by phone with at least one member of the family and has been a major topic of discussion within the organization the past week.
“I think he’s a great coach and he’s done an unbelievable job at Louisville,” Maloof told Yahoo! Sports. “But we haven’t talked to him.”
Who knows? Just another offseason in the Derby City.

As a Kings fan and UofL Alum...
…let me just say the last few years of miserable coaching hires were directed by the Maloofs. They are on record as saying that this time it is squarely on GM Petrie’s shoulders. Petrie has repeatedly stated that NBA experience is paramount, but that experience must also include a certain level of success. I seriously doubt the Kings will hire Pitino. Kick the tires on him, sure, but I doubt they will pull the trigger.

Being a Memphis fan this reminds me of the initial rumors related to Cal going to Kentucky. At first you’ll say to yourself, there’s no way Rick would do this, he has so much going here. Then he’ll deny ever having conversations with the Kings and probably state that Louisville is where he wants to be. Louisville fans be ready. For the next few days there are going to be a million rumors from a million experts “close to the situation”. The days will turn into weeks, the weeks will turn into months waiting for the final outcome. All I can say, is good luck in your journey. By the way, I’ve been a Tiger fan since 1968. I really enjoyed all of the battles with you guys through the years. I recall such great players as Jim Price, Darryl Griffith, the McCray brothers, Never nervous Pervis and of course your great coach Denny Crum. I loved all of our great battles and wish we could schedule some games in the future. It was a great rivalry. Your new stadium looks great, keep up the great work.

Jim Price?
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Jim “Slab” Price lived across the hall from me in Miller Hall his senior year which was my freshman year. We got to be good friends.

This better not be true.
If it is, this will officially be the worst offseason ever.

This is a good move for us
This is how I see things working out.
First, the KY State Legislature will legalize gambling in the Commonwealth in 2011. The Maloofs will then team up with the Blue brothers and build a huge Casino on the their property next to Slugger Field.
After two years of booming profits the Maloofs will decide to move a still struggling Sacramento franchise to Louisville in 2013 to play as a secondary tennant at the World Renowned Downtown Arena. In an attempt to lure the local fan base to the new team the Maloofs will hire the recently retired 65 year old Pitino who just won his second consecutive National Title with a dominant backcourt of senior point guard Peyton Siva and National Player of the Year junior shooting guard Marques Teague.
By 2016, the wild success of the Pitino led Kentucky Kings and the Jay Wright led Louisville Cardinals will draw enormous crowds to the downtown entertainment district and will cause an influx of monies into the TIF District that contains the Palms East Casino and the Downtown Arena and creates huge amounts of capital for the city. Mayor Tom Jurich uses the profits to lure Fortune 500 medical technology companies to invest in the steadily expanding Healthcare Disrtict which is only a few blocks away.
By 2025 the collaboration and concentration of so many great minds leads to unprecedented research that allows for the development of cures to some of the worst diseases that plague our society such as cancer, AIDS, and heart disease. Due to the elimination of sickness, nationalized healthcare becomes useless and the government can invest all that money into education.
By 2035, after being made obsolute due to the elimination of most sickness, the drug companies will hire the new graduates of a highly efficient education system and shift their focus to solving the world’s energy and environmental crisis. The new research will develop affordable technologies to power and feed a clean and sustainable society.
By 2050, With the world healthy, educated, well fed, entertained, and safe, nations around the world sign treaties declaring peace with their enemies and eventually the idea of conflict will disappear from the planet leading to true World Peace.
…at least that’s how I hope this all works out.

would it be so bad ????
Now dont get me wrong I DONT want to see Pitino leave. As we all know hes a world class coach. However if he did would it really be the end of the world. Lets think about it. When Pitino went to KY everyone knew he was good, however I doubt people thought he was going to have the success he had. When your on top the only place to go is down and there are alot of guys out there nipping at his heals. Ya never know we could pick up the next rising star.
Now I say again I would rather just stick with Pitino.
