Not to be sexist or anything,
but this doesn’t, uh, look good for our coach, I fear. The lady could be said to be a walking advertisment, for shall we say, practicing the act of procreating the species. Yet her attorney, Mr. Clay, was just on the TV saying that “as far as an action against Coach Pitino is concerned, I don’t think she has one.”
That doesn’t mean that she can’t allege affair or something, and that alone, true or not, will sully the coach’s reputation. Or perhaps she’s just nuts.

Come on
She looks like a gold-digging froot loop; I cannot imagine she sounds credible. I mean, Fox 41 thought better of showing her flaky story. ’Nuff said.
I think very few will believe her, and those that do never liked Pitino to begin with.

I love Pitino as a coach just as much as the next U of L fan, but I have to disagree that her alleging affair will sully the coach’s reputation. I’d say it’s pretty common knowledge that Pitino is anything but faithful.

Yes she's somewhat attractive,
but she wears more makeup than a drag queen. She wears outfits that say “Look at me, from a distance I may look 25, but up close my mileage may vary.” She’s an attention whore personified.
I do not know her, and I may be wrong about her, but I’ve known women like that who have used their looks to manipulate men and get what they want. And these women did not age gracefully either on the inside or the outside. Linda, do you know the type I’m talking about??
Now a stunt she’s pulled has really backfired on her. Well, if she’s charged and found guilty, she’ll get hers.

I absolutely DO know the type you are talking about....
it’s sad when women don’t age gracefully. It’s pitiful. They think people are looking at them admiringly when, in some cases, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I hope the whole story just fades away. Go CARDS!

Alie Reynolds
I don’t know if any of you have been following the lie fest at bleacherreport.com, but it has been a sight to behold. Alie Reynolds wrote a slanderous article that had no sources and it made the rounds. Editors there have apparently called her out, but her lies swept across the web. She even spammed here under several names.
Another little liar named Jonathan Lintner posted that Pitino was doing many terrible things. This goofball claimed he had sources and his bio states he is a journalism student at Western Kentucky. Many of us called him out at ITV and his story has now vanished, although he claims he will update it with real sources.
The organized internet effort to smear Pitino was quick and effective, but those who are willing can do something about it can act. Lintner still has many of his articles posted at bleacherreport.com and I have decided to contact Western Kentucky’s journalism school and report his actions to the school and the school paper. If nothing else, his record needs to reflect a flailing grade on libel and slander.

like it or not...
alot of men will sleep with any woman, it doesnt matter if the man is a cleb or not….ie. hugh grant….eddie murphy….bill clinton….i dont think any one here would be that surprised….and if he did sleep with her maybe he will be more selective the next time, or better yet maybe he shouldnt be putting himself situations where things like this can happen…the crime is not the alleged affair it is the extortion…i like pitino as a coach, but there has been way to many situations involving women, and we all know this….our university does not need these constant clouds of his infidelity always surrounding us..potential players read this stuff, so do sponsers and advertisers….its low class and we deserve better….where theres smoke theres fire, i hope this straightens him up…our coaches need to be top notch both on and off the court…

I seriously doubt this will turn any recruits away
Let’s keep it real for a second: UL is not typically recruiting the types of kids that attend Duke or Harvard. Most of our recruits come from families with middle class or lower backgrounds. I think this story separates Rick from being just another rich basketball coach. He has problems in his life too just like the rest of us. I doubt any recruits will care about any “cloud of infidelity”—they care more about Coach P’s ability to win and improve their chances of getting drafted in the NBA. If its true he has marital problems then its just another humanizing side to Coach P that perhaps the recruits can relate to.

I don’t know this to be true. Can’t think of an instance where a single, verifiable name has been linked to Coach Pitino. But then I’m old and out of the loop, so to speak.

Okay
I’ve had two different people tell me there are rumors in certain circles (take with a HUGE grain of salt) that the extortion attempt didn’t have to do with an affair/abortion, but rather that there may have been some improprieties with the betting line of some games. DEAR GOD I HOPE THIS ISN’T TRUE.
FWIW, I looked it up and it looks like the Cards were 22-14-1 ATS this year, which doesn’t look that bad. However they failed to cover in three of their four tournament games.
Again, this would be a nightmare of epic proportions. Please people, assuage my fears here.

No reason to worry. This has been a common rumor that seems to gain traction in the UK fan community following many of our seasons (I specifically remember Cisco being accused of it). When people hear that the FBI is involved and don’t know why, it is one of the first ideas that comes to their minds, and this year it has extra stick because the FBI is involved. Ask yourself if Pitino would have called the FBI to investigate allegations of point shaving by his own players.

however if this were true, karen would/could not be behind this in any capacity other than a mouth piece, and im pretty sure she would role over on who ever actually figured it out…covering the spread would be way out or her knowledge base…[if you knew her you would know this]

Oh, I don't doubt that
If true I would imagine it would be a scenario of her overhearing something or her then-husband confiding in her. Neither seems likely, but the mere prospect scare the hell out of me.

Doubtful
So far all the reports have gone out of their way to point out that the extortion attempts were aimed at personal matters between the accuser and Coach Pitino and had nothing to do with the University or the basketball team.

Get over it
Karen Sypher graduated from UK in 1988. So there you go, she’s been on Calipari’s staff since day 1. She’s been sent to Louisville to tear down our great program and to take all the negative energy to Freedom Hall.
Dam anybody could see that coming! Rick is Louisville Basketball, where would we be without Rick Pitino? Probably still in Conference USA! Remember that and never ever try to trash his name, because the entire media will make sure the truth comes out.
I kinda feel sorry for her though, because she will have to move far away from here!!!!

The more that comes out, the crazier this woman seems.
Here we have a woman who has supposedly told “200 people in the last year and a half” including a Fox affiliate and ESPN, and yet nobody will repeat what she’s saying because the claims are “so unsubstantiated.” On top of that, she’s got a husband who’s not backing her up, polygraphs that she’s failed, and countless people who know her personally calling her a loon.
Now she’s got a lawyer who won’t let her talk and a mother who’s sounding a lot like certain forum and blog posters and has basically barricaded herself inside her house. I can just see her standing around with a broom peeking through the mini-blinds. As for the attorney, well… it’s not good when your defense attorney is basically telling you to shut your mouth if you don’t want to go to jail, and it’s definitely bad if he quits, because that opens up the potential to be disbarred. You’ve got to be doing some crazy stuff to make an attorney take that chance.
I just want this to go away. Whatever she says is either going to be inconsequential compared to extortion, or so off base that it will serve as nothing more than a headache. With football starting, the basketball season ending so poorly, and now news of Jeremy Tyler, this is just a PITA.
Karen: go away, please.

I have noticed a sharp decline in chatter
regarding this ridiculous rumor…especially that one (two) poster on this site. I too just want this to fade away like it never happened. Anyone think RP agrees? I wonder if the stress caused by this had any bearing on how he coached in the last few games of the NCAA?
by twistedwedge on Apr 24, 2009 7:40 AM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
Oh, I think it definitely had an a bearing on...
the last game…how could it not? The fact that she had the calls made during the roughest strech of the season is not only extortion but terrorism…..had he been able to concentrate on BB instead of his personal problems, we may have been able to win it all. We’ll never know for sure but now we can always wonder…..
