Is This Year Considered "Lean?"
I heard that it was.
I know that this is only a mock draft so I will accomodate, and nudge it slightly in the ribs.
Thatbeet #2, Budinger #11, Curry #14…all seem way too high. Is Thabeet that high by default? Is he gonna have an impact on the offensive end? And defensively, he’s a force, but he tires quickly. I can’t imagine Sephen running the show or being a 2 in the NBA. He just seems too slight. I’d go for my enemy, A.J. Price, #33, instead.
Young, Lawson, TWILL. #17,18, 25…higher? Don’t you think?
I think TWill would benefit by going to a more established team than Chicago
Someplace like San Antonio, Dallas, or Houston… Hell, he’d be awesome playing for the Knicks and D’Antoni too…
He’ll be awesome anyway, boo yah
Our game against Michigan State
may have cost Terrance Williams a great deal of money.
theoldman
one of my first thoughts after that game
he got shut down
Our game against Arizona
apparently isn’t costing Jordan Hill any money. That guy looked scared the entire game. Not sure how he is rated so high.
Yes Please
As as kid from the Chicago burbs going to UofL, I say “Yes please” to Twill to Chicago. Even though we already have a horrendous guard glut (I’m assuming he’d be a 2 in the NBA), I don’t care. I just don’t care. And to Patrick Patterson to Chicago, I don’t say anything because I’m throwing up in my mouth. Good thing I’ve heard he wants to stick around and play for Cal.
I really don’t see how any NBA scout could watch both T-Will and Earl on the same team and not determine T-Will is the better prospect. I don’t think it’s even close.
You're Right I think,Centre Card/Final Four
Earl is the safe bet. He’ll probably do OK.
TWILL has unlimited potential. No Ceiling. On the other hand he very well may not make it at all in the NBA…be a flop. But, there’s lots of blue sky out there for the red condor, wide open spaces for him to soar. I’m rooting for him.
And if he can improve half as much in the next two years as he did in the last year, then I think he’s gonna be something special.
Rainy in the East as we get ready for the twin bill tomorrow. How does everybody feel? Is everyone on board for a Big Big Big East day with our league vanquishing MSU and NC? Like the old Tammany Hall political machine, do we all fall into place and support our candidates? I gotta tell you, I am having a very hard time rooting for UCONN. No me’ gusta senor Calhoun, and I’ll admit a weakness, admittedly a new one, for Izzo. So I can’t root for Connecticut.
One last thing, and I posted this last autumn. Calhoun told Mike Franseca last fall that if he ran the table we would retire.
Take care, great people.

I think the opposite about Earl v T Will
T Will was a much better college player than Earl, but college and pro are two different games looking for two different types of players. Reece Gaines and D Wade were pretty close to the same caliber player in college, going neck and neck for CUSA player of the year (Wade won). Wade was drafted higher, but Gaines went a very respectable 15th. Now, Wade is a superstar, one of the 3 best players in the NBA in some order with Kobe and Lebron, and Reece is playing in Spain. Another example is Rondo, who struggled in college but has turned into a huge reason the Celtics won the championship last year (playing with Garnett, Pierce, and Allen doesn’t hurt either)
To me, Earl has a much higher ceiling than T Will. When Earl is at his best, he is a complete game changer. He can score on guards or big guys, rebound very well, and play solid defense on big guys or guards. He has quick feet and a long reach that you just can teach. He was the only one against MSU who could create for himself and was the best player on the court that night (not really a fair assessment of T Will since he played one of his worst games this season). To me, Earl has the chance to be a superstar if he keeps getting better and matures mentally. At worst I’d say hes a decent bench player to fill some minutes and can get you 5 points and 4 rebounds a game.
This doesn’t take anything away from T Will, who I think will be a meaningful player on whichever team drafts him, but unless something crazy happens, I don’t see him being a superstar. He is a fantastic defender and does all those little things that make everyone else around him better, but he’s doing to be going against guys who are just as big, just as athletic or more so (Lebron, Wade, Kobe). I think his shot will develop and he’ll be a good player with a nice long career.
I hope I’m wrong on him and he becomes someone you mention in the same sentances with Lebron, Kobe, Wade, MJ, Dr. J. etc. because he obviously loves the game and gave all he had to be a Louisville Cardinal for 4 years.
Ben
You obviously know a lot about the two. However, I don’t think we are that far apart in our feelings about the new pros as you might think. You say that “unless something crazy happens” you do not see TWILL becoming a superstar. Soon after, you mention that you believe his “shot will develop.” If this does eventuate it will be hard for him not to be a superstar.
The only chink in his armour now is the outside shot, and I think there is a possibility that the “something crazy” that might happen is that he becomes a self made outside shooter. And if that does happen, watch out. Again, the flip, is that if his shooting is not adequate at all, he will probably be playing pro in another hemisphere. You mention those with which he might be compared (All Time Greats Like Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Michael), yet you do give E5 similar comparisons even though you believe he has the higher ceiling.
Earl will be plain vanilla. Productive. Less than great defense (like here). Good shooter. Better than average rebounder. Copious turnovers. Six steps on a layup when the NBA normally allows only five. He’ll make a lot of dough and be on Sports Center just like everybody else.
Earl is definitely the safer bet. We know he’s gonna be a good NBA player.
But my humble opinion says that as far as potential goes, TWILL wins the lottery, hands down.
Sorry Ben...and I proof read it twice
Meant to type, “yet you do not give E5 similar comparisons even though you believe he has the higher ceiling.”
Have a great weekend.
