Derby Classic videos

I didn't get to catch as much of the Derby Classic as I would have liked to (you can download the game here thanks to Jerb) but my take is that the four future Cardinals basically solidified the opinions most of the fan base held of them heading into the weekend.

Peyton Siva is going to be very good. Mike Marra is the lights-out shooter the program desperately needs, and he's also a pretty ridiculous leaper. Rakeem Buckles is a tremendous athlete with the potential to become a tremendous college player. And Stephen Van Treese probably has a ways to go before he can be relied upon to provide quality minutes in the post.

All in all, I'd say it was a positive weekend for the Louisville basketball program.

Here's Marra, the eventual Slam Dunk champ's second attempt.

And here's Buckles capturing the two-on-two championship with partner Eric Bledsoe.

And here's a complete highlight package.

4 digit code

I tried 7 times to download it. Why in the world do they put the acknowledgment code in such bizarre script. I never did guess it right. I gave up. The people who are offering the download have downloaded too much shxx in their pants.

football ... football

You guys must have missed out on the Orange Bowl … Give Louisville a little more credit. Basketball towns become basketball towns because they can’t hack it in football. That’s the only reason. Must be the UK syndrome.

one "major" football accomplishment

doesnt turn a basketball town with a storied tradition into football..especially when the year following that Orange bowl victory the team posted a .500 record

Basketball towns do not equal towns that "can't hack it in football"

There are programs that focus on certain things long before the others or we blessed with an excellent coach in one sport that helped define that program. Paterno, Bear Byran, Knute Rockney, and Bowden made there schools football schools because they built programs that galvanized the fan base and won games. Denny Crum, Dean Smith, Coach K, and John Thomson did the same for their schools, just in basketball.

Plus, like frankpos alluded to, kids in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Indiana grow up with a hoop either in their own driveway or in their neighborhood. one of the first toys i remember playing with was a little mini nerf hoop and ball attached to the wall. Yeah, i also played football and soccer growing up, and loved all three, but basketball was always #1 for me to watch.

One good stretch of football (without a national championship) after decades of being average (no knock on the program, have been and always will be a UL football fan) doesnt make us a football school. The final fours and national championships stretched over a prolongued period on consistant winning make us a basketball school
