Rick Pitino/Christian Laettner vitaminwater ad hits the Internet
Via The Dagger and Awful Announcing.
Much, much better than I thought it was going to be.
A plus for the Thomas Hill impersonation and the Pitino obsenity.

Super Bowl Sunday quality
It sure beats hearing Mike Kablooski (Duke coach – spell anyway you want) talk about his coaching experiences while promoting American Express.
I just realized
that with 1) this commercial, 2) Kentucky’s forthcoming NIT appearance and 3) UofL’s potential of being a 1 seed
it’s going to be a long month of March for the bluebellies.

May want to stay away from pretty much any online forums that have anything to do with sports or sections devoted to sports.
UK fans are going to get very ugly with their posts. Places like 502streetscene will become largely unbearable to view.
HAHAHA UK fans are having an effing fit over this
I swear some people are so dumb, they are calling this “the most painful loss” in UK history being rubbed in their face. This was an epic basketball shot, not the passing of your great aunt Bertha. Good lord Lexington, get a life.
Even more reason to like Duke
Louisville fans shouldn’t be Duke haters. Why? Because UK fans hate them so much even though Duke fans could care less about UK. If you hate a school and that school doesn’t reciprocate the hate, you look stupid.
Hell, I respect Duke. Yeah, you can complain they get some calls, but it isn’t their fault. And what’s to hate about a coach who recruits kids who can both play basketball and be fairly articulate?
I'm sorry, I still hate Duke.
Maybe it’s because I was raised in a UK house and all my family (besides my dad) are UK fans. But I’d rather like to think it’s because Coach K is arrogant and Duke not only gets tons of calls in their games, but they are perennial favorites and consistently ranked higher than they rightfully should be just because they’re Duke. I’m not just talking about preseason rankings either, because those change all the time (Hell, we went from preseason #3 to the NIT in 05-06), but rather how they can drop 3 out of four games, including one or two to unranked teams, and still be in the top 5.
That’s also why I have much disdain for Oklahoma this year.
Gonna have to go ahead and...disagree with you
Yes, I respect Duke’s ability to recruit D1 talent who have high IQs and go to class. But—and this mystifies even myself b/c of how it was spawned—ever since Christian Laettner stomped on that UK dude’s chest, I’ve started slowly hating on Duke. And it’s built up over the years, partially due to the reasons CARD_G6 mentions about being overrated, but mostly b/c some of their players have been extremely polarizing and often come off as spoiled brats rather than athletes who give more to the game than they take away. Due to their overexposure on ESPN, it’s easy to see why there is such a publicly conscious hate on them, much like the Yankees or Lakers.
In short, I hate Duke for the same reasons I love TWill.

Unrequited Hate
Just because Duke does not reciprocate UK’s hate for them is no reason for someone not to hate them. Because of Duke’s nose in the sky ways, they seem to be unaware of anything other than themselves, their trust funds, their all-american diversity, their cannonized Coach K, and those one or two other teams down the road.
It’s a private club, man, and just YOU try to get in!
And if you ever bump into a Dukie by accident and start a conversation, it will be all of thirty-seven seconds before you know where he went to college.
Am I just jealous? Hell, yeah.
Yeah, centrecard, they vanquished UK in that game all those years ago, but that win for them was just another notch on their patrician belts, and their lack of rancor towards UK is merely because they see that school (and others) as insignificant. UK is an invisible man. This in itself is reason to hate them.

And "what's to hate about a coach who recruits kids who can both play basketball and be fairly articulate?"
Man, you’re reading his book. That’s yesterdays newspaper. You’re sippin’ the Kool Aid. Some of his “kids” don’t graduate anymore either. I’d wager that some of kids are not that articulate.
And we don’t “hate” Coach K . Some of us just don’t buy the party line of how special he is, how he is innoclated from any criticism, how his “kids” are what’s really important. Because then we see him doing another national commercial just like everybody else.
Joe Torre got the same treatment with the Yankees. A string of four World Championships and he could do no wrong. Never criticized. Never made a wrong move.
And I think about Joba Chamberlain, standing out on the mound on that humid night in Cleveland, four billions gnats chewing through the sweat on his neck until we could see blood….For Christ’s sake, Joe, PULL the team off the field. Tell the umpires, “Sorry, but we can’t play in these conditions…if you want to forfeit the game, fine, it will be on you, but we can’t play in these conditions.”
But nobody in the media said a thing.
