UK makes offer to Calipari
According to an MSNBC report, UK has offered their head coaching job to John Calipari of Memphis. I hope that's true, because Calipari is a loathsome figure, someone easy to root against. It's kind of surprising, with a couple of UK bred candidates lurking in the wings, that they'd pursue such an unsavory guy, but hey, more power to 'em. They're all the easier to dislike. Let's hope he takes the job.

Man...
If they didn’t like Gillispie, what makes them think they’ll like Calipari’s aggressive personality?

It Will Be Hate Squared
With this back room, rabbit punching, in-fighting, media grubbing, AAU semi-pro recruiting, self centered, supremely arrogant, and decidedly short, “Somnobitch” patroling the hardwood at Rupp.
And if anyone even thought the rivalry was waning, well, just wait till tomorrow.

John Calipari...
He is the impossibly hot chick that you sleep with, knowing full well that she will give you herpes… Have fun UK.

its all over catspause
had to go and see it for myself…just like 2 years ago-bunches of yUK fans crowing about how Cal will lead them to “the promised land” next season..
have fun with that, Cal..and he always complains about how expectations are high in Memphis..

A UK fan friend of mine made a bold statement to me in an email today:
“He (Calipari) will probably bring his top 2 recruits and keep UK’s. they will win a championship within 3 years”
I replied:
What kills a skunk is the publicity it gives itself. ~Abraham Lincoln
The same friend looked at me during the game yesterday and said the loss to MSU is as bad as UK’s loss to ND in the NIT. I’m glad there were two other UK fans present to bring him back to earth.

its official
Calipari has been hired UK, and the NCAA has handed down a preemptive postseason ban and scholarship reductions due to recruiting and academic violations that will soon take place.

Nice Pre Emptive Strike
…don’t forget the brown UPS envelope torn in transit that features all those green bills, Grants, Franklins, and McKinleys; fifties, hundreds, and five-hundred dollar bills just like a UK recruit received about fifteen or twenty years ago.
Can’t remember what the explanation was…meal money?…laundry….?….telephone?
This guy will be giving away condos in Cabo San Lucas.
Also late night TV will be selling the: “John Chaney, I’m Gonna Kick Your Ass” DVD, hawked by “Vince,” and if you order within the next twenty minutes (“because we can’t do this all day”) they will toss in the companion VHS video “Rudimentary Recruiting Violations,” about Cal’s days at UMASS.
Also Deep Fryer, great line about the roadside rodent and Abe Lincoln…another, I’ve always liked: “Never get in a pissing match with a skunk.”

lol, mckinleys?
i know theres old money down in lex, but i don’t think its THAT old…
i have gone from “i hope UK wins so that our SOS increases when UL beats em” to “I hope they lose, lose, lose ALL OF THE TIME”…

okay, i think cal might not be the cleanest coach
but can someone point me to anything he’s done wrong? i know the camby thing, but from everything i can gather, that was mainly camby seeing money and working with an agent. the WWW link isn’t the clearest, but i just have to think that the ncaa would have done something about that if it wasn’t on the up and up…

they made them forfeit a FF didn't they (the NCAA)??
by Linda on Mar 31, 2009 4:17 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
yeah, at umass
but that was because of camby…no finding of any wrong doing on his part
starting to come around to see why folks think he’s dirty, he recruits some shady players, and i think world wide wes is definitely crooked.

not recruiting related, just dirty cal related.
most recently, he has passed tyreke evans off as a “witness” to a drive-by… even though evans was driving the car that was involved in the shooting, which i’m pretty sure would make him an accomplice.

It Depends What The Definition Of "Is," Is
He simply “meant” that his point guard was present. And if Evans had murdered someone he would have been a witness as well.
No matter how much Cal’s shark skin suits might cost, no matter how hard he tries to turn his stripes, he’s always gonna seem like Tark’s little brother, down at the end of the bench, suckin’ on a white towel, preparing his speech to the press about how so many of his kids will graduate.
This guy is unclean.

its not so mush following NCAA rules,
but he isnt know for graduating many players and last year, over have of the team has criminal records while at memphis. He recruits thugs and doesnt try to make them any better at anything other than basketball. He is by far my most hated coach in sports.

He took it
CJ says Calpari is calling former UL coaches “out of respect for the program” to tell them he’s taking the job. He called Joe B. “No word” on whether he has called/will call Pitino or Gillespie.
Wow, UofL vs. both UK and Calipari in the same game… can the hate get turned up any higher?
by rickinva on Mar 31, 2009 3:34 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
Not so fast
He’s probably going to UK, but he never told the former coaches that he was taking the job.

...Maybe He's Going For The Unprecedented..."The Double"
Yeah, I can see the headline, “CAL TO COACH AT BOTH SCHOOLS”.

I just dont know if it is smart on his behalf
He has a great thing going down in Memphis right now. Why give that up? Think about how high expectations are going to be in Lex if he comes…if he doesnt get to a final four or beyond in a couple years are the blueneck fans going to be calling for his head? I wouldnt want that job even if I was the best coach in the world

And Like Joe Pesci in "Goodfellas"
He finally walks into the next room to get his Captain’s pin…
Now he’s shot in the head, on the floor, the beige carpeting going red.
Phone rings outside the diner.
“It…it didn’t happen.”
Dinero, playing “Jimmy Conway,”…incredulous…boiling…“What do you mean it didn’t happen??”
“Sorry, Jimmy, it just didn’t happen.”
*************
Twist, you know these guys are moth’s attracted to a flame.
After all the millions and the millions and the millions, money alone can’t do it.
The whole thing has got to be about them.
And in that very limited sense, he’s come to the right place.

One thing's for certain
Kentucky basketball fans have never before (or perhaps rarely is a better word) seen the type of player Cal will be dragging into Rupp Arena. It’s what makes the “boxes and boxes of head bands” line so great. Ah, all that blue-blood Kentucky tradition has just been sold down the pike. It’s positively Faustian.
