humility?

I was really glad to see this quote from Pitino in the ESPN.com recap:

"We know that we're not going to play like this again because of the type of defense that we're going to run into now," Pitino said. "I'll find something to be very upset about tonight at snack. I think a lack of humility is the greatest killer of potential. So we're not going to fall in love with ourselves because we had a good game tonight."

I'm so glad that this guy is our coach.  Keep it hungry, Cards!

I had the same thought

And the first image I had was of every football running back I’ve ever really loved. Yes, football. Because my favs – to a man – never celebrated in the endzone and made it all about them when they scored. They just crossed the line, sprinted to the nearest ref, and tossed or handed the ball to them before jogging to the sidelines. That’s humility. But it’s also quiet pride in doing your job well. I’m glad Pitino is trying to keep these guys in that mode. Yes, let them celebrate big moments. Basketball is about being fired up and intense to a large degree. But then you have to be serious and focused for the next opponent. If he lets these guys get the big head after destroying AZ, it’s a recipe for losing to Mich. St.

You know there is always a let down after a game like that.

But sometimes it doesn’t happen immediately. Look at Syracuse’s run through the BET. Playing above their heads and stamina to beat UCONN, and then bringing it again the next two nights.

Hopefully Coach will have the team feeling like they’re in a basketball “zone”. Where they can’t wait for the next challenge, the next game, the next rush of winning. T-Will looks really focused, yet loose. This is having a really dramatic effect on the other players. I feel good about our abilty to stay humble and hungry. Plus we know we are always going have that #1 target on our backs.

So I just know we are going to bring our BEast (or is that BEst) game to the floor. and if the other team doesn’t bring their A game, or if their A game just isn’t good enough, we dominate. Last night was a case in point.
