NCAA Tournament late afternoon session open thread
Well, the Matadors did their part and kept things interesting enough to salvage the first session. It's time for things to pick up a little bit as four games tip in today's second slate of contests.
Your new soundtrack:
DeJuan Wheat starring in the '97 One Shining Moment.
Your new schedule:
5) Purdue vs. 12) Northern Iowa (West/2:30)
1) North Carolina vs. 16) Radford (South/2:50)
7) California vs. 10) Maryland (West/2:55)
1) Connecticut vs. 16) Chattanooga (West/3:00)
Apparently the West region doesn't feel like letting anybody else play.
Watch the games live right here.
Enjoy it.

I'm late with my picks on this round, but...
I’m going with all the seeds, picking Cal over Maryland because I hate the ACC.
LOL yeah, I"m perfect so far
with both my CC and StraitPinkie brackets. That’s sure to change! One recent year, I finished the Thursday early games 8 for 8… and then watched in horror as about 2/3 of my picks for the rest of the first round, including half of my elite eight, went down the tubes.
Brackets are won in the Final Four.
That’s what I keep telling myself after starting off 1 for 3

agreed
8/9s don’t really hurt that much, since they usually go down the next round
memphis however, would have hurt my bracket bad…granted, it was a hurt i was willing to take
I usually pick the Final Four based on future NBA talent and go from there, which is partly why i don't like Memphis
The commonly discussed “Teams with 2 players projected in the 1st Round” theory…
UNC = Yes
Pitt = Yes
UL = Yes
OK = Yes
UConn = Yes
Wake Forest = Yes
Syracuse = Halfway there (Flynn’s draft stock has shot up more than Citigroup this past week)
This could also prove futile as teams like Arizona, UCLA and Ohio State also have multiple potential 1st Rounders this season and very few project those teams past the Sweet 16. Memphis has Tyreke Evans [and Dozier] but their best player is a frosh & they haven’t played anyone in 3 months.

according to basketball prospectus
t-will’s average mock draft position is 42. 42! that’s just insane.
42 is an insult to the 1st Team All American
I bet he’s somewhere around 22 right now and could move up or down 5-10 spots depending on his tournament resume.

BYU was quite a disappointment,
given the fact that they’re all about 34 years old. You’d think that “experience” would be worth something. And I hated to see an SEC team oust Butler. But Butler this year was not the Butler of old, I don’t think.
theoldman
butler is about a year away
even their coach has been saying that…young guards are tough to win with in march
why do seth and greg anthony have to sit at the desk at halftime when they don't do anything?
they don’t talk about the games, they don’t get shown except in the long shots, they just sit. let them watch the games in peace cbs. and all 3 games are on commercial and a 4th at halftime? really? how the blue hell does that happen?
"How the blue hell does that happen?"
Anybody know how one might apply for their jobs?

There's a new Dean in college basketball!
Jim made it into a Nike commercial.
I thought I was the only person in the CC pool that had picked a game incorrectly so far
then I saw the “view all” link and felt much better.
First LOL.....
….the new Coke Zero commercial where the one guy slaps the other guy hard. I doubt I will LOL the next 100 times I see it, but the first time you see it, it lands.
Summary of UNC-Radford
I still hate tyler hansbrough and his confused face.
I think that about covers it.
call it ignorance, but i thought cal would be decent. miss st-wash is on cbs college for those that want to watch it
I think Cal was decent for a west coast team.
But I really think the west coast is down this year. Plus, I just thought that Maryland was better.
maryland was absolutely better
cal didn’t do anything well. they didn’t play d the second half at all. i know they normally shoot 3’s better, but after they lost the lead they were done.
You know, I love the Big East,
but I’m really enjoying watching Derrick Mercer take apart Scotty Reynolds. Mercer was one of the kids featured in a riveting book about Bob Hurley and St. Anthony High in Jersey City, and after what that kid endured, seeing his success is really neat. (I also noticed that, as he left the court at the half and went to step around a security guard, he actually said “Excuse me.” Not too caught up in the moment to forget his manners. He’s a terrific kid and his is a terrific story.
theoldman
well, Reynolds not doing Nova any favors so far
1-7 field goals and a ton of turnovers.
