Big East Tournament evening session open thread
I suppose we're rooting against Pitt and UConn, but who really knows at this point?
Enjoy the games.

Refused admittance to Bernie Madoff Ponzi proceedings as authorities feared an assassination attempt .
Like Oswald, he described nature of his long covered parcel as, “curtain rods.”
I'm decently excited
But super excited for Syracuse/UConn for some reason.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 12, 2009 7:12 PM EDT up reply actions
perhaps because
syracuse has a legit shot to win, and uconn losing in the quarters could pave the way for us to get a 1?
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 7:14 PM EDT up reply actions
that's one rough looking dude
and the mountaineer is nice too.
they need monster games from ruoff and butler
to have a realistic shot. i’m thinking 50 combined pts, at least
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 7:11 PM EDT up reply actions
I'm with Quinn1979...
….NFW MSU can make the final four. I never want to see an Izzo-coached team late in March, but if they somehow get a 1 seed I’ll take their bracket – I think it goes OU/Memphis/MSU in terms of 1/2 I want to see.
I reallllllllly want UNC again – but only in the Final Four.
would rather have memphis than oklahoma personally
but as long as we avoid unc i’ll be giddy.
i don’t like the fact that three of the 7s are utah, byu, and butler. seems teams like that always give us fits.
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 7:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Normally I would agree with you...
….but do you think the OK players would remember that humiliation from last year at all? And I don’t think they’d remember it in a “we have to get our honor back” but in a “that’s all the same guys and uh-oh that little #2 and that #33 guy are sorta freaking me out” way.
Maybe I’m wrong and our guys would be overconfident.
But I think we have the psychological edge in that game after that beatdown last year.
that is a good point
and a real possibility, i just think that oklahoma’s supporting cast is drastically better this year and that nobody really scares me that much from calipari’s con men besides tyreke (and if he can beat us by himself, hats off).
probably a coin flip as you said. important thing is NO UNC
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 7:29 PM EDT up reply actions
i confess i haven't seen them play in cusa
but isn’t it tyreke and the bench from last year’s team? dozier, anderson, kemp, etc.?
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 8:09 PM EDT up reply actions
forde's line convinced me
memphis has as many big east losses this year as we do this year, except they played 4 big east games, not 18.
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 8:12 PM EDT up reply actions
also wondering
what everyone thinks marquette’s seed will be? i think anything lower than a 6 would be unfair.
If Pitt....
…is down less than one possession at half, or up, they win this going away. Dixon is keeping Blair on the bench as long as he can, no way he puts him back in while the game is close.
agreed
there is no way this group of seniors is going home tonight in a tournament they’ve ruled.
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions
Assuming of course...
….that Blair stays out of foul trouble.
If he picks up foul #3 before the under-16 it is going to come down to the wire.
i wish we played the night game
i missed being in the game thread. talking in these threads isn’t the same. i’m rooting for west virginia just because i picked them to upset pitt in the pool.
he's right though
i’m for pitt in this one, but they are getting some friendly whistles, no wonder they thing MSG is their home court
by Ben Go CARDS on Mar 12, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions
haha wonder if he said that in the 86 title game
i was 2, so i defer to my elders on tha tone
by doctorofdunk on Mar 12, 2009 8:22 PM EDT up reply actions
these refs suck
and bilas is ripping them
“that is an offensive foul and jim burr is standing there like a scarecrow”
maybe if pitt loses here, they will actually make a run in the ncaa
instead of them normally making a run in the big east and losing early in the ncaas
worth noting
that without last saturday’s win and a little help from pitt, we’d be the ones struggling vs. west va tonight.
WVU is really locking this down..
….I couldn’t watch the first 7 minutes that closely, although I did see Ebanks’s awesome dunk in transition. What has happened? how has WVU slowed down Blair?
i can't wait
for pitt and uconn to lose tonight so the analysts can fault us if we win the tourney for not beating pitt and uconn en route.
wow shot fake
if only sam young had lifted one leg, would’ve been amazing
Wow that was a lame push off by Blair
Thought he had more class than that
try 360 or the deuce
or espnnews, one of them will show the end i think.
oh the didn't start the clock for oklahoma's game winning shot attempt
i don’t think i’ve seen this happen before
ESPNU!
Controversy in the OK/OK St game! OK down 1 with 2.3 seconds, Taylor Griffith throws it the length of the court to Blake, who turns, fires and misses……but the clock doesn’t start!
Refs watching the monitors.
http://scores.espn.go.com/ncb/scoreboard
i feel sorry for the poor sooners fan who checks this score
this has been a horribly officiated tournament
I expect better officiating in the Big East Championship. I know the Big East has a “let ’em play” tradition but they are allowing absolute muggings… and then turning around and calling ticky-tack fouls. Awful, awful reffing.
I wanted Pitt to win this game so they could tire out UConn tomorrow night… but on the plus side, the one team that’s ever beaten us in the Big East tourney is now gone.
Surely to god
This Oklahoma as one talk can cease.

yep
the griffins go down..no excuses tonight
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:16 PM EDT up reply actions
If it didnt happen in the BigXII tourney
they would have been exposed in the NCAA
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:54 PM EDT up reply actions
yup. They will get it over us
unless we win the BET. Total crock of shit, but I see it happening
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:15 PM EDT up reply actions
so if we win the BET, its us
Conn, UNC and Memphis St? but if UConn loses..?
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:17 PM EDT up reply actions
but, what if we beat providence, nova and syracuse, hypothetically?
i think memphis would get a 1. does it matter though?
dunno man
I just like to hypothesize.
I think if UConn loses Michigan St or Dook take their spot.
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:25 PM EDT up reply actions
I really hope Jerel McNeal
hasn’t watched any TV tonight.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 12, 2009 9:17 PM EDT reply actions
honestly, I gotta ask....
as a BLOOD Cardinal fan I have to ask, does anyone think we can beat UConn????
sure hope you guys are right...
and that we get the chance in the BE tourney and then again in the FF……I’m a believer.
don't forget that paul harris quote after their first game
they’ll run it if they haven’t already
and i say they do
of course don’t look at the top of this thread at the asinine statements i made about the last game.
damn
i thought it’d be teeming for cuse-uconn

Devendorf's a punk
but I’d love two second-tier teams to play in that semifinal. The winner of our game with Nova would have a huge advantage over a team plaing their 4th game in 4 days.
you think yUK fans will be salivating over getting him as HC after the season
by twistedwedge on Mar 12, 2009 9:43 PM EDT up reply actions
he's crazy...
if he goes there – I know, I know…he bleeds blue but if he doesn’t win – yUK fans will make his life a hell on earth….go LSU !!!!!
Here's to hoping that IF OK state and UK both make it to the tournament
that the Cowboys destroy UK under Ford
i was thinking the same thing
if lsu blows em out tomorrow he’ll be the first name you hear
next year, a card chronicle group trip for the big east tournament
someone buy tickets and book hotel rooms and transportation, and i’ll free load. sounds good to me
gross....
I just got an email from a yUK fan that Patterson is staying another year…that has to come under the “who gives a darn” column…… I don’t think his ankle is right and I think the scouts know that. Why do they send me that crap??? I don’t care…go LSU !!!
I hate Robinson.
Seriously, stop screaming. You’re a tool.
Way to get beat in transition as you screamed at the camera, d-bag.
Time to put the foot to the throat, Syracuse.
Don’t let up.
Is there any way Syracuse can win without Devendork?
Juli Boehiem?
Just got here . . .
Is the Orange gonna make my night?
Has ESPN showed Juli Boehiem yet?
I love her!
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 12, 2009 11:16 PM EDT reply actions
Same play on the other end of the floor
Foul on UConn both times. I love it.
Wow.
Are we going to have a repeat of Nova-Marquette?
What a day in the Big East. What a day in basketball. It seems the only team really doing what they were supposed to do is us.
I wasn't just talking about the Big East
I was talking about everything. Oklahoma losing. Memphis State barely scraping by. Kansas losing to Baylor.
I was also talking about recently, not just tournament. Pitt lost to Providence in the final weeks. UConn lost to Pitt in the final game. Marquette dropped 5 of 6. Oklahoma lost to Mizzou in the final week.
We and Memphis State are the only ones winning all our games down the stretch like we need to.
"I TOLD YOU! I F###ING TOLD YOU!!!"
And its no good
By the way
This comment was awesome.

I know
But it didn’t look like the clock started right when Edwards touched it.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 12, 2009 11:44 PM EDT up reply actions
I wish he had gotten it.
That would have been a historic play, and I would have been witness.
Oh, well, no dice.
Damn
I almost had a chance to say “Heh, I called it.” But the Orange kind of blew their chances at the end. Don’t much think they can prevail on the OT; don’t know if I can stay awake to watch it.
theoldman
I still have a design report to write after this game goes off.
I don’t even remember what it was like to go to bed before 2 a.m. anymore. Not intentionally, anyway.
agree with everyone
they’d have been better off not hitting that shot
I wish he would never wake up.
I still say I have more distaste for Devendork, but Robinson is right up there.
Are you f'ing kidding me?
Cant think of many BE players I like less than Robinson
This has just been an incredible day of BE basketball
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 12, 2009 11:55 PM EDT reply actions
Absolutely ridiculous.
This is like the f’ing NCAA come early. What a great day of basketball and I’ve unfortunately missed most of it.
I find it hard to believe.
I don’t think I’ve seen a Big 12 game all year I’ve thought was more than “slightly above average.”
B12
I’ve watched plenty of their games and would take 5 big east schools against OKLA
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 12, 2009 11:58 PM EDT up reply actions
seriously boeheim?
that was the shot you drew up, down one?

game over at 3 am, cuse pulls it out
no one wants to make a bucket
UCONN has the right isea by draing the foul
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:07 AM EDT reply actions
Wow.
I mean, I’m kinda pulling for the Cuse here, but no way you’re telling me there was no foul there.
Syracuse has got to get that 5th on Thabeet early if they want to win this.
I think if they do that, they’ll pull this one out.

And UCONN doens't play til 9:00
You tellin’ me that they won’t be tired
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:20 AM EDT up reply actions
They'll be exhausted.
WVU has a pretty solid chance with either one of these teams tomorrow after this marathon.
damn
UCONN won’t blow this lead, like SYR did
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:21 AM EDT reply actions
If somebody sinks a three in this possession, I will throw up my hands in amazement.
And not be surprised one bit.
If we face SYR in the finals, I'm growin a Devendorf beard
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:27 AM EDT reply actions
SYR will NOT make a 3 . .
Need a miss here (which won’t happen)
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:34 AM EDT reply actions
I fell asleep on the couch...
…awhile ago, just woke up with 2 mintues to go in 3OT and I’m like, wtf?
Woodford, dead . . . Elijah Craig, dead . . .
Next stop . . . Knob Creek . . .
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:39 AM EDT reply actions
I don't remember any.
I know Syracuse has played 3 this season and UConn one, but I don’t know if they were in conference play.
cuse should have the lead
harris and flynn have to hit those shots
Have they shown / talked about the stat?
about BET teams playing in OT and their record the next game? Isn’t it like 2-20 or something?
OK - Who has the overtime button at BW3's?
by loverofthegame on Mar 13, 2009 12:49 AM EDT reply actions
Somebody on ESPN boards just mentioned that.
“-I’m assuming that someone at Buffalo Wild Wings isn’t ready to go yet as this game continues on.”
Tomorrow
Could the five of us beat the winner of this game, considering how spent they are?
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:50 AM EDT reply actions
Huggy can lose a sure thing with the best of 'em
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 12:53 AM EDT up reply actions
Boy I'd hope so..
…Cuse and UConn are basically playing an extra game here.
by CardsFan922 on Mar 13, 2009 12:54 AM EDT up reply actions
i think flynn could play forever
can you imagine if we were in one of these games?!
Our line-up at this point....
…would be Kuric, Delk, Goode, Will Scott and Earl.
Everyone else would have fouled out a LONG time ago.
by CardsFan922 on Mar 13, 2009 12:58 AM EDT up reply actions
We'd bring Siva in

7 OT
according to wikianswers. Granted, it’s wiki answers so take it for what you will… http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_the_longest_NCAA_Basketball_game
by SpeedStudent on Mar 13, 2009 1:04 AM EDT up reply actions
i think a few people in the sections behind each bench
have fouled out
END IT
Or winner will just have to forfiet to WVU
ADRIEN!!!
i thought for sure that was the end
JUST IMAGINE
What if this was the 7:00 game? Imagine sitting there in your warm-ups until midnight before tipping off!!!!
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 1:05 AM EDT reply actions
What's all this noise about
I’m trying to sleep over here…. yawn… what’s going on? HOLY CRAP! 6OT?? WTF??
Oh no I've been watching
Just trying not to completely neglect the girlfriend…the fifth overtime was her limit.
by Mike Rutherford on Mar 13, 2009 1:09 AM EDT up reply actions
Easiest way to end this game, have both teams put both their worst player in,
and have them play 1 on 1 for 5 mins.
Shook me all night long
Playing on the speakers at MSG
by LaBradford Smith on Mar 13, 2009 1:07 AM EDT reply actions
Harris!
doesn’t quite atone for those earlier misses, but I’ll take it
This is one of those..
….that could end up being Syracuse 120-110 (6 OT) which would be an awesome final score.
haha
what about a 20-pt win? no biggie.

Not sure
if a loss in this kind of game will hurt UConn’s #1 prospects all that much, but yes, if Louisville wins the BET, they replace UConn as a #1 without a doubt.
I can't even imagine
the pain the winners will be dealing with during the WVU game tomorrow. How can they possibly compete for 2 halves?
at what point
does actual narcolepsy become an issue?
So I really think CS Fullerton - UC Santa Barbara game will end before this one.
Also, I’m wondering how Louisiana Tech is in the WAC.
I'm done
See you boys tomorrow in the a.m. morning soon.

i'm a teacher
and I had already planned to teach my kids about March Madness tomorrow for our “morning meeting.”
this night couldn’t be more appropriate
What a performance.
Like I said in 2OT, it was all about want. Who wanted it more.
Despite the fact that Syracuse never led until 6OT, it always felt like they wanted it more.
Can you people lock up
and turn out the lights please? And clean up your empty cans and pizza boxes.
What a game...
….see you folks tomorrow.
Just like everyone predicted, the final four of the BET are UofL, Nova, WVU and Cuse.
Go Cards.
is the game still going? it's 10a.m.
Louisville and Kentucky are two seperate states. Now Wiki that!
