So... what does Marquette losing do for us?
Do we sit atop the BE now? Does it all come down to the Marquette game? (Of course, not overlooking the rest of the schedule, but we SHOULD win all of them)
How does this affect our chances of taking the BE? Is it even possible with the loss to CT?
I'm just spouting words right now because I think USF beating Marquette tonight was big. However, it is late and I am having trouble collecting my thoughts. Any help?

We're tied with UConn for #1.
Of course, since they beat us, they win the tie breaker. We’ll need to win out, beat Marquette (sending them to second place), and hope UConn loses another game to win the Big East regular season title.
Of course, none of this is really a big deal since we need to just do well, win the games we need to win, and we’ll still be a solid two or three seed.
They'll make it more complicated than NFL Wildcard Sunday
but as CARD_G6 puts it, we just have to do well. Just get that Wednesday bye.
Then everything else is just hanging chads.
Have a great Saturday, everybody.

a little leg up is always good...
Of course, anything could happen over the rest of the Big East regular season. But here’s what I like:
I’d much rather be the #2 seed in the Big East tourney than the #3 seed. #3 has to play #1 in the semifinals, whereas #2 doesn’t have to play #1 until the finals. If that #1 seed ends up being UConn, I’d rather be as far away from them as possible!
Of course, we still have to beat Marquette and take care of business against plenty of other good teams. And honestly, I’ll be extremely surprised if ANYBODY (other than maybe UConn) actually ends the regular season with just one B.E. loss.
Still, as long as we take care of our own business, upsets like this certainly do help.
(full disclosure: I really want Louisville to make the B.E. final because I just paid WAY too much for tickets to that game. Happy birthday to me!)
Is that right?
Wouldn’t #1 play #4 in the semis if the higher seeds win, and #2 and #3 tangle in the other semis? I think that’s correct, since all teams get in the BE Tourney now.
You are correct...

- vs #4 and #2 vs #3, hope you didn’t buy you’re tickets based off that seeding.
ah yes
duh. that’s right.
so as long as we don’t drop to #4, we’re in good shape.
also: my tickets are to the finals :)

Small point
But because we play USF twice and Marquette once, doesn’t this help our RPI a little bit?
Too much season left
to tell just yet. Marquette might melt down. I’ve thought all along that their serious lack of an inside presence will catch up to them eventually, and the USF game might be the beginning of that. They’ve been living on borrowed time, even though they do have major talent on the perimeter for sure. They have the tough stretch in the BE upcoming, whereas UofL has it behind them now. I think it’ll come down to UConn, Louisville, and Pitt for the top seed in the Big Dance out of the BE. You can’t ever count out Pitt in the BE Tourney because they play so damn well at MSG.
BE tourney
obviously RPI won’t matter in terms of the BET.
So any rpi softness we may run up against late in the reg season can be easily overshadowed by the rpi monsters we are likely to see in the tourney.
Bottom line for the cards, I think, is that we’ll need to win the BET to get a 1 seed in the tourney. We’ll have too many losses to get one otherwise. But if we beat UConn for the BE title, then UConn can’t very well get a 1 seed without us getting one too.
