Rest of the season
As the Big East conference schedule comes to a close, who do we want to win and lose? Obviously, we want the top to lose above us, but for example, do we cheer for Marquette tonight against UCONN? If Marquette wins, we would be tied with them for first. Looking at the rest of their schedule, I would say if they can win out, they deserve to win the Big East. If Marquette beats UCONN tonight, loses to UofL on Sunday, and then wins or loses against Pitt and Syracuse, I think we should control our own destiny and be in pretty good shape. I guess Pitt beating UCONN the next time they play would be good for us also (I think?). It seems like 2 teams for the BE will get 1 seeds, so I really like our current position. Comments?

you'll be cheering for Marquette tonight
and Maryland too, for that matter. Unless you are a Notre Dame fan in which case you might be cheering for Duke just to clear bubble space for yourself.
Yes, marquette winning keeps them tied with us, but we have a lot more control over the outcome of their next game then we do over any of UConn’s remaining games. And Uconn has the tiebreaker with us so we’ll take a huskies loss just about as soon as we can get one. The number one thing that we have to do is take care of our own remaining sked. If we do that I think the rest will work itself out in our favor. We only really need one specific thing in our conference – a UConn loss. The rest is kinda immaterial except how it affects other team’s seedings in the BET, and trying to wrestle that to the ground takes too much energy. Globally speaking we’d like every team in the AP top 10 to lose, except Marquette tonight. But really all of this haggling for a 1 seed in the BET isn’t so much for the honor but to get ourselves the clearest path to the tourney finals, which is where we need to be in order to make a legitimate claim for our first ever NCAA 1 seed.

The Selection Committee
typically ignores big conference tourney results. Not always, but in general… when it comes to handing out #1 seeds. If Louisville wins out in the regular season, I think they just might snag that last #1, primarily because OK is fading with Griffin out. Memphis gets one if they win out (very likely); UNC probably gets one if they don’t choke again; whoever wins the BE regular season gets one; and whoever finishes second in the BE and/or wins the BE tourney. I think the Committee will use conference tourneys for that last #1 seed if it’s too close to call in their analysis between a couple teams. Otherwise, I think it’s almost entirely about regular season body of work.
My prediction:
Memphis (South)
UNC (East)
UConn (Midwest)
Louisville (West)
