New release looks like a hit
I still find this a bit depressing.
"He looked like a center fielder on tape throwing the ball home," NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock said. "He held (the ball) way down and wound up.
"It took him a long time to get rid of the football, and defensive backs were jumping his routes."
Now that Cantwell has shortened his throwing motion, he hopes it expands the list of teams considering drafting him.
After spending three weeks with a specialist, Cantwell impressed scouts at the East-West Shrine Game with his quick turnaround. He hopes to enhance that view as he participates in the NFL Scouting Combine that runs through tomorrow.

And UofL failed to this because???
It was too hard to figure out? Steve Poopshoot thought his motion was ok? What?
Go Cards!
In all fairness...
Look, it’s easy to blame Kragthorpe and Brohm, but didn’t Cantwell play under Petrino for four years (including redshirt)? It’s obvious Petrino didn’t feel like he needed to change Cantwell’s motion either. No one seemed too concerned with Cantwell’s release when he was playing well under Petrino.
Sure, but
how much did he play under Petrino? Couple games when Brohm was hurt? Didn’t seem to have that problem then, or it wasn’t as bad as his senior year. However, thru spring practice under KRAGTHORPE, as well as the summer, the problem should have been recognized and addressed. That is what coaches get paid to do.
Go Cards!
He played 3 years (and 2 spring practices) under Petrino.
1 was redshirt year with Brohm and LeFors ahead of him. Brohm was the QB coach those years. Brohm was not the QB last year, however.
I honestly didn’t notice the problem while he was playing for Petrino. But that might be my own shortcomings as a scout.
Should be:
Brohm was not the QB coach last year, however.
I don't know
if this was something that surfaced under Kragthorpe or if his throwing motion was the same under Petrino as well.
I do know that watching video of Adam Froman on TV shows that he already has a better throwing motion than Cantwell. He is also much quicker taking the snap, and dropping back. He also has more touch on his short passes, although he does throw a little bit of a wobbly ball on the two passes they showed. But oh well, if it’s on the money, it still counts.
Uh yea..
I thought Krapthorpe was supposed to be a QB guru? Drew Bledsoe what?
What a joke. But good for Hunter
Check the video
This is actually one situation where we can take up for Krag. Cantwell had the same throwing motion under Petrino and had the same problem with touch passes. Though Cantwell didn’t start a lot of games under him, Petrino sure saw a lot of him in practice. He ran the scout team every week. Obviously Petrino didn’t feel the need to change his motion, and neither did Kragthorpe.
I did check the video
No one was a bigger fan of Hunter than me. I have a lot of respect for how he stepped up at the Gator Bowl and took the beating he did. Coach P only has pro style QB’s. Hunter had a habit of dropping and winding up as he did with K. Yes this was coached with Coach P. He very seldom dropped below his waist.
