THREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE KNOWLES!
He could have easily scored many more if he were in longer. I think he’ll set a new personal scoring record a couple more times this year.
I like Preston, too
…but for me the game was unwatchable, and a total walk-through for us. And DePaul was such a great program.
Trivia question for the day: Last independent to win the men’s NCAA hoops?
Marquette in 1977. Al said it wasn’t his best team. That team, the one with Dean “The Dream” Memminger, got upset by Ohio State.
Long time ago, when you could still refer to them as “The Warriors.”
I fell asleep...
To be fair, I was sleep deprived both Friday and Saturday night so it was inevitable that I’d be a candidate for long nap Sunday afternoon, but I REALLY tried to watch the game instead. Woke up with about 3 minutes left in the 2nd half.

Would the real #2 please stand up.....
This picture is like a verse out of greek mythology!
Mortals making idols of themselves, imitating Preston’s likeness (Depaul player attempting to pull off wearing #2). They try to reach for him in hopes of garnering some of his physical prowess, as if reaching to the heavens for a handout from the gods, as if Zeus himself will handover his staff! But alas! They may never touch his greatness. He rises above, without even looking down at the idolatrous mortals, and fixes his gaze on the target. Strike oh Preston the Suit! None shall wield such accuracy! Alas, his foe has been vanquished. The day of reckoning has come!
Sorry for the !’s Mike. I think the Greeks used them a lot, or whatever the greek symbol is for !.

Preston
hit a moving, fade-away three from the right corner that, while ungarded, was a remarkably difficult shot. In a close game, had he taken such a shot, he’d likely have earned a place on the bench.
That said, it was nice to see the ball go into the basket for a change. Of course, not having a hand in your face helps a lot. I was more concerned about watching our defensive presence and to be honest Depaul was so lethargic and disinterested you couldn’t tell how well, or how poorly, we were playing.
Getting a 40-point win helps the psyche, though. And after UConn and ND, our psyche probably needs all the help it can get. I’m hoping we’ll string together a series of sterling efforts to close out the year and not wait for the tournament to try and flip the switch to the “on” position.

Some guy named Glockner has U of L as a 2
in the South bracket, with Oklahoma as the one seed. Gee, that would be wonderful as far as I’m concerned. It’s at the SI web site, for what it’s worth. (I guess I’m saying that of the top four teams right now, I think we can beat Oklahoma. Can’t see how they can be so much better than last year, though I know the freshman addition helps. We just handled them soooo easily.)

Bracketology
is a 20th Century cottage industry which sells no real product.
If I had a nickel for every tout sheet I bought at Saratoga when I was young, well, I’d have a few bucks.
And like those other things (like opinions and functioning bodily orifices), everybody’s got one. I hate, and even feel a little affronted, when the mondo dweeb down the hall comes around with a stack of bracket cards starting the third week of March. I guess I feel it’s all OUR territory.
Yeah, I’ll do a card. I’ll do ONE. And it might just be the one your son sets up here.
Most importantly you say: “I’m hoping we’ll string together a series of sterling efforts to close out the year and not wait for the tournament to try and flip the switch to the "on" position.” I’m with you and right now I feel like we’re not headed that way. We need that spark and we need it within a couple of weeks.
Take care.
Lunardi has us as a 2 as well
in the Midwest bracket, but with NC as the 1 seed…I really hope that doesn’t happen, but have a sneaking suspicion the committee would love to see that match up…

We can beat Oklahoma, but
anyone can beat anyone on any given night.
Me, I’m praying we don’t see the Brothers Griffin in the dance.
Preston easily has the most consistent jump shot on this team.
That’s not to say he can ever be the highest scorer. But I’ve gotten to the point that when I see Preston stop dead in his tracks off the dribble for a pull-up jumper, I’m not upset about it.
That's a fact, Card G6
It used to be that when Preston shot, I felt a little trepidation, like the way I feel today when McGee or Sosa or T-Will or Clark or anybody else launches. Preston Knowles is the most consistent shooter on the team, and that’s more a statement about our team’s lack of shooters than it is about his offensive talent. Although the math usually doesn’t lie, (he said, instantly contradicting himself) and shooting 40+ percent from the three-point line is much better than average.

actually Kuric is the highest at 45%
I know, doesnt really count due to the over all number of attempts..Preston checks in at 43, and Jerry is on his heels at 39.8

I think Preston has a stroke
there was a span last year where it seemed Preston couldn’t miss on his first field goal in the game. When he took that first shot you knew it was money. I love this man as well and what I love best is he will be a solid 4 year player .. I think he is further along than O’bannon was when he was Soph..maybe?
