What to watch: 2/10/09

Donovan_enlarge_medium

Michigan State at Michigan (7 p.m./ESPN)

Why couldn't we be on the rivalry week docket? Would it have been that hard to schedule Cincinnati or Marquette for this week?

Old Dominion at Hofstra (7 p.m./ESPNU)

It's still Northeastern, VCU, George Mason and everybody else in the Colonial.

Virginia at Florida State (7 p.m./Comcast/FS South)

Stay hot, Toney Douglas.

Marquette at Villanova (7:30 p.m./ESPN2)

This one's kind of a big deal as far as the race for the regular season crown goes. 'Nova is red hot and Marquette is 9-1, but just lost to, uh, South...Florida.

Florida at Kentucky (9 p.m./ESPN)

Do I hear four?

Seton Hall at Depaul (9 p.m./ESPNU)

Is Depaul really bad enough to go 0-18 in this conference? Surely to god not. Of course this is the risk you run when you let a cartoon character coach your team.

Indiana at Minnesota (9 p.m./Big Ten Network)

Is there any doubt that Minnesota gets knocked out in the first round of the NCAA Tournament? I mean, any doubt at all?

Clemson at Boston College (9 p.m./Comcast/FS South)

Tonight's solid game that I probably will not watch for the sole reason that I do not want to watch it.

TCU at UNLV (10 p.m./The Mountain)

UNLV basketball: the appetizer for the absolute worst New Year's Eve of my life.

Ed Hightower sighting in Ann Arbor tonight.

He flew into town on the back of the Dragon-Dog from “The Neverending Story” and called a traveling violation on the Sasquatch before shooting Lincoln in the back of the head.

Old Dominion at Hofstra (7 p.m./ESPNU)

I would rather watch a “sensitive” Meryl Streep double feature, one in which she overacts her ass off, something about saving the whales, perhaps, followed by The Complete Fourth Season DVD of “Murder She Wrote.”

Villanova-Marquette

I watch a lot of college hoops, and that first half was the most entertaining one I’ve seen all year. Turn it on espn2 for the second half, hopefully it’s equally good. All run-and-gun, the backcourts are going right at each other.

it sure seems like it

i think nova has 8 guys on the court. i went back on DVR and if you look closely, allan ray and kyle lowry are playing in this game.

Who is watching UK/UF?

Apparently UK has never lost 3 straight SEC games at Rupp. Come on history!

Also, why did Harris change his number in the middle of the year? That’s sorta weird right?

by CardsFan922 on Feb 10, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions

It'd be OK if it were for some sort of understandable reason

But apparently he changed it to represent the number of brothers and sisters he has.

Pretty lame.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 10, 2009 9:24 PM EST up reply actions

I think he changed it because he was hurt so much.

He thought it was bad luck. He picked the new number because he has 5 siblings, which is lame.

I think and hope that Notre Dame wil be our Florida – the team whose defense is so bad it makes your offense look good and gain some confidence.

I'm watching it.

And I swear, Gillespie was trashed. That halftime interview was the thing dreams are made of. I will laugh about it when I’m 90.

BillyG is soooo bad at halftime interviews!

He totally zoned out for the first question, then didn’t answer the next one.

by Dais on Feb 10, 2009 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

It was the same question twice.

And instead of saying things he liked that his team was doing, he talked about turnovers and bad shots.

Also, UK fans booing is very unclassy, but in no way surprising.

he is RUDE....

to the woman asking the question…..what is his problem?

by Linda on Feb 11, 2009 6:24 PM EST up reply actions

.08 my ass.

More like 0.80 from the looks of things.

by CARD_G6 on Feb 10, 2009 9:56 PM EST up reply actions

I'm pretty sure that was the same woman who interviewed him at Ole Miss.

He obviously tried to patch things over with her.

I think he had a cold one waiting for him.

Clemson is still Clemson

I’m sure they’ll be all shades of impressive and awful over the next five weeks, but this team won’t be playing on the second weekend of the dance.

Terrence Oglesby would be crucified if he played for a school that cared more about basketball.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 10, 2009 10:02 PM EST reply actions

The only time....

…I’ve really seen them was the 2nd half of the Duke game when they looked like the Lakers.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 10, 2009 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

All depends what team shows up

I think they’re definitely capable of making the second weekend, but their inconsistency will prevent a Final Four run. Which is a shame, objectively speaking. I like Purnell, they’re talented/fun to watch, and they kind of remind me of us—-a crappier version of us. But maybe I’m drinking the orange kool-aid, and it’ll be the same story again (though Rivers, Stitt and Booker really do make me think otherwise). I don’t know how Clemson and Florida St fans who actually pay attention to basketball deal with their teams. We would all be in an asylum if that was UofL.

by doctorofdunk on Feb 10, 2009 11:05 PM EST up reply actions

good question

they missed quite a few free throws, but i’m not gonna ask questions. that win continues to look better and better.

by doctorofdunk on Feb 10, 2009 11:08 PM EST up reply actions

Weird sequence there.....

….throwing the guy out. Not sure if it was intentional but I didn’t know they could review that on the monitors to make that call. Especially to make sur a HUGE game changing call.

by CardsFan922 on Feb 10, 2009 10:21 PM EST reply actions

I was just thinking that

Maybe you can review it because it is a dead ball foul, I’m sure you can’t call a normal foul after a replay.

by Dais on Feb 10, 2009 10:23 PM EST up reply actions

Calathes is really good

Dwight Perry may not play, but that won’t stop him from being my least favorite player on this year’s Kentucky team.

by Mike Rutherford on Feb 10, 2009 10:35 PM EST reply actions

I'm going to be genuinely upset if UK pulls this out

I think I get angrier at a UK victory than I do at a UofL loss.

by Dais on Feb 10, 2009 10:38 PM EST reply actions

Can't be too upset about that

What a crazy game, and an amazing 3 by Meeks.

by Dais on Feb 10, 2009 11:21 PM EST up reply actions

I'm pretty upset about it.

I can’t believe Calathes didn’t hit at least one of those to get the chance for the tip-in and tie. The officiating was also pretty terrible both ways for pretty much the whole game.

In short, another day in the SEC, with sloppy play and shitty fans.

Get ready for

kayut fans crowing about how “theyre back on track, and ready for a NC run”.
