I just start running sprints and hoping he doesn’t yell at me. Dude’s looks like a badass for sure.

Charlie Strong on ESPN

Coach Strong will be on College Football Live between 3:30-4:00. I hope they have video, I can’t wait to see him wearing red and black!

by Dais on Dec 9, 2009 3:42 PM EST reply actions

He just spoke in third person.

I love him already. “Charlie Strong needed to be patient.”

by Doctor Derek on Dec 9, 2009 3:49 PM EST reply actions

"charlie strong needed to be patient"

Oh Oh Oh! I hope he talks in the third person consistently

by Centre24 on Dec 9, 2009 3:49 PM EST reply actions

Seems like a good guy

I’m happy with this hire. A little hesitant to go full bore with my enthusiasm, but I think he will do a good job. Speaking in 3rd person is always a good thing.

How many teams we'll actually have to beat...

and how many teams will quiver and forfeit because they’re scared of Strong.

Hmmm

but he did say “not we”

Glad he's

Agreed

It would be nice if he could start recruiting for us now, but I respect the fact that he is not abandoning his players (and recruits will too)

I disagree

He’s the Louisville coach. Concentrate on Louisville. I guess I’m in the minority of this. I think it’s best to take the band aid approach. One rip, right off

I feel really bad for UC fans.

**when do you think**

"Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs" - John McKay

by LeeCaz on Dec 9, 2009 4:21 PM EST up reply actions

oh no, please don’t. Joker has made some questionable decisions as an OC. He can come help recruit, but stay away from the playcalling. I would rather Charlie bring in someone he knows from a successful offense/school, not UK. And I think I might have to change that Charlie to Coach Strong, because it just got really cold in my room and I feel like someone is yelling at me to do an hour of stadium steps.

One baseball game, he came to the plate and heard a woman in the crowd shout to the pitcher, "I'll make you a chocolate cake if you strike out that 'so-and-so'!" Says Strong: "I hit that ball out of the park. Then I looked at her like, 'Do I get a cake now?' "

At least

Petrino waited a week after Orange Bowl, Kelly is such a prick hope he fails miserably, same to Rich Rod. Oh well, Mr. Strong is coming to town! Be nice if he would bring in Jagozinsky as OC, so we can still run a pro style offense.

by ville 606 on Dec 9, 2009 4:40 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Jagodzinski is not an OC

Trust me. I’m a Bucs fan. He was fired because he couldn’t even come up with a play book worthy of a high school team. Seriously.

by LeeCaz on Dec 9, 2009 4:52 PM EST up reply actions

Sorry to disagree

jags was an OC with the Packers I believe in the 2007 season, also was the playcaller as BC’s HC and they won 10 games…sorry if I’m a little skeptical of that opinion

I guess you know more than a head coach (albeit an inexperienced one) and GM of a NFL team huh?

And your wrong, Steve Logan called the plays for BC, not Jags.

http://blogs.tampabay.com/bucs/2009/09/bucs-had-concerns-about-jagodzinskis-playcalling-abilities-.html

I love being right…

"Three or four plane crashes and we're in the playoffs" - John McKay

by LeeCaz on Dec 9, 2009 5:34 PM EST up reply actions

You know you are right

You can argue with me over semantics all you’d like, but a coach that has worked under and over Steve Logan, alongside Alex Gibbs (if you don’t know who he is…think mid-90’s Denver Broncos OL-zone blocking), and has experience as an OC with an actually decent, WINNING NFL organization, he’d be alright for UofL.

Tampa is doing so well without him, I can see where you would be glad to have Greg Olson and that 1-11 record.

by Cardscj on Dec 9, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

Olson is absolutely horrible

which means that Jags must really have no clue as to how to call plays. Trust me, the new regime of Raheem Morris and Mark Dominik hasn’t won over many fans down in Tampa.

I think he is going to do really well..

He has worked for 3 of the greatest coaches to ever coach in college football. I’m sure he has taken notes on how they have run their programs and it will translate to how he runs his.

2 of the greatest coaches

how did you put holtz in that group?

by quezzygreen on Dec 9, 2009 7:42 PM EST up reply actions

Holtz is the only coach in NCAA history to lead six different programs to bowl games and the only coach to guide four different programs to the final top 20 rankings. He is also a multiple winner of National Coach of the Year honors.

1988 Championship.

I’d say that deserves some merit.

Yeah Holtz might come across as a boobish ND homer on tv now, but he was a pretty good coach. Lee Corso on the other hand. . .

WOW. I was there at the press conference/fan event thing. I am truly impressed.

"It's not the South, it's not Chicago, and you don't think of it as you think of New York or L.A. It has some Southern romanticism to it, but also a Northern progressivism, this weird urban island in the middle of the state of Kentucky...For us, Louisville and the surrounding areas are the center of massive creativity and massive weirdness." - Jim James, My Morning Jacket

by tnatburks on Dec 9, 2009 10:12 PM EST up reply actions

dominated does not reduce intensity

Or at least I didn’t mean to imply that UK has “dominated” UL, and therefore UK/UL was no longer “intense”. I meant the games weren’t intense — at least 2008 & 2009 weren’t — because we knew all about your coach. He was special.

Evidently that came out wrong. Sorry about that.

by centrecard on Dec 9, 2009 9:44 PM EST reply actions

I think he should leave Florida though

I guess I’m in the minority, but I would rather him focus all his energy getting things done here, than splitting time. It’s not like the Sugar Bowl is next week. It’s not for another month. I can see why he would stay since their d is mostly seniors I believe, but I want him to come here full force. That game is meaningless

by cardscott5 on Dec 9, 2009 10:05 PM EST reply actions

I'm ok with it.

he is showing respect to the school that really put him on the map. And if he ever leaves UofL, I think he would give us the same courtesy.

by CardinalDude on Dec 9, 2009 10:07 PM EST up reply actions

He did say

that his purpose right now was to build a staff and recruit here, THEN go back and coach the Sugar Bowl. I’m sure he’ll be splitting time between here and there and won’t neglect us.

by Cool Hand Cards on Dec 9, 2009 10:26 PM EST up reply actions

Additionaly

I like the loyalty it shows for him to not want to leave them short handed. I’m sure that same loyalty will now be directed toward us.

by Cool Hand Cards on Dec 9, 2009 10:35 PM EST up reply actions

Might as well go back

to Florida and get those recruits he was talking about UF not taking, and coach the Sugar Bowl while he’s at it. I’m fine with it. I was actually happy to hear that he’s not planning on taking recruits from UF either. Last thing we need in Louisville is a Calipari. Showing good character and loyalty.

by REALISTICCARDSFAN on Dec 10, 2009 12:01 AM EST up reply actions

I'm fine with this as well...

and pretty much what I expected would happen. Despite Louisville not appearing in a bowl game this year, we will have some prominence in a BCS bowl simply due to the storyline of Strong facing off against one of his future conference rivals in the Bearcats. Media types eat that stuff up, especially when doing a game between two teams that don’t have any significant history between them. We’re basically going to get free ad space for our program in a BCS bowl game that we should have no business being mentioned in.

I’m actually torn for this game. I want Cincy to win to boost the Big East, but at the same time I want Coach Strong to dial up a great defensive game which will continue to raise his (and our) profile.
