U of L press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. tomorrow

Again, I haven't been told by anyone why it's being held, but as of right now U of L has absolutely scheduled a press conference for 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Brown & Williamson Club.

When asked about these three facts, respectively, a source close to the Louisville football program responded: "yep," "uh-huh" and "yep." When asked if the questioner would be correct in assuming that the respondent would not be able to confirm the rationale behind calling the press conference, the respondent had the following to say: "yep."

See, that right there, that's how I got here, people. That's how I afford cordless phones.

In all seriousness, I'm excited...until this turns out to be for the unveiling of the 2011 softball schedule.

UPDATE: Official: U of L athletic personnel committee to meet tomorrow at 3:30

Just waiting for the OK to launch the pun assault.

C-J:

The University of Louisville has announced that the Personnel Committee of the U of L Athletic Association Board of Directors will meet to discuss personnel matters at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium.

The school is seeking a replacement for football Steve Kragthorpe. Florida defensive coordinator Charlie Strong is considered to be athletic director Tom Jurich’s top target.

It's gotta be Strong right?

Unless it’s a well crafted press conference of Pitino yelling at the fans for their negative coverage of the Charlotte game.

"We're still a top 10 program...

and will continue to be a top 10 program."

Meh

Not excited by this hire, but none of the names, other than Harbaugh, really caught my eye. I think it’s a risk turning our broken down program over to someone who’s never been a head coach. Thankfully, he has been part of a well run program and that shoul help.

After Tom’s last one man, one candidate search, I don’t see how anyone could be anything more than cautiously optimistic. I’m going with the wait and see attitude because I have concerns, but not serious enough to say no this is a bad hire.

The benefit of the doubt went out the door with Kragthorpe’s hire, but here’s hoping this is solid move for the program.

I'm in the same boat as you

I don’t really know what Strong will bring to the table, but he really can’t be any worse.

Same here

Cautiously optimistic.

Should be a well attended spring game

Do you remember having success under Petrino?

He hadb’t been a head coach before UofL and in terms of winning he did somewhat well didn’t he?

by cbcard on Dec 8, 2009 5:17 PM EST up reply actions

Two totally different moments in the history of Louisville football. Fail.

by Whacker77 on Dec 8, 2009 6:09 PM EST up reply actions

I'm just cautiously optimstic.... think Jurich was swayed a bit by heavy criticism from black coaches assn last time

but …Strong is a good hire , with tremendous recruiting upside.

Now…the OC will be critical…

A Strong wind is a com'n

we welcome this wind though. a great recruiter. and a great coach.

Totally Stoked..

No way do I expect instant change, but oh boy do I expect instant support of The ’Ville.

by Remote Cardinal on Dec 8, 2009 4:44 PM EST reply actions

Now that we have a new coach

I hope the fanbase shows its support through better attendance. Obviously, we’re not going to be great next year, but we need to embrace the program again.

i.e.

1. Show up on time
2. Stay until the end of the game.

Hell,; we couldn't even do that with Petrino.

Why would we start now? I’ve always made it a point to do those things, but as you alluded, few others do.

by SpeedStudent on Dec 8, 2009 10:51 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

people dont even stay

all the way to the end of basketball games…IMO no way theyre gonna start doing so for football

by twistedwedge on Dec 9, 2009 2:46 AM EST up reply actions

But-

I agree with Centre-the fans need to show up in full force. It might be rough at first, but Im willing to bet that the team will look much more prepared and disciplined under Strong.

Recruiting

is why we should all be excited by this hire! The guy is by all accounts a phenomenal recruiter, although walking in and saying “Florida Gators” is likely to be more than half the job by itself. Regardless, if the guy can bring in a handful of the better Southeast prep stars every year, we’ll rebuild in a hurry. And you know the defense will instantly improve. Like next year without any new personnel. You just know that’s gonna happen. So we’ll be more competitive right out of the gate with this guy in charge. I’m stoked!

I got a Strong feeling about this press conference.

What a great day in Cardinal football it will be if true.

RUMOR MILL

Apparently there are more than a couple recruits who are considering following him here. 4 star Jeff Loc is among them

by sam34gtr on Dec 8, 2009 7:22 PM EST reply actions

Just googled Jeff Loc

The only thing I got in terms of a football recruit was a four star linebacker named Jeff Luc who committed to Florida State.

Rumor, consider yourself squashed

Strong's first change....

should be to DO AWAY with that god forsaken shitty “The Ville” crap on the jerseys!!!! I know I would…

Just saw it on ESPN

rumor mill

my inside source tells me that fulmer and tommy bowden are being considered for coordinators……take it for what its worth but he told me he heard it from someone who works at Nelligan Sports….

by bdub13 on Dec 8, 2009 9:12 PM EST reply actions

Strong has an open pocket-book from Jurich for his staff... TJ has always tried to pave the way for success

for every coach.

This time he is determined to be even more so.

Remember: Football is TJ’s true “baby” at U of L—he’s a football man.
