Open Thread: Louisville vs. Western Kentucky

Western Kentucky Hilltoppers at Louisville Cardinals, Dec 19, 2009 4:00 PM EST

All right fellas, this is The Bill, and we don't lose The Bill. Except for the one year where we lost The Bill.

Stayin' with the hot hand.

I suspect

that Slaughter may just slaughter us. I’m not sure who stops him from getting inside. And Samardo ain’t stoppin’ him once he gets there sure as I’m sittin’ here. Or well.. standing.. here.

One player won't hurt us if the team is playing solid defense.

My concern is that we will play chase the ball and they will find the open shooter.

by JustCards on Dec 19, 2009 3:29 PM EST reply actions

My point exactly.

This will be UNLV all over again, except this time we’re at home. Let’s hope we get to “rush the court”. :)

by JustCards on Dec 19, 2009 3:36 PM EST reply actions

Western is gonna really be a test...

…they match up really well, and have experience as well. I really hope we bring our A game.

BJ Flynn

Was I hearing things or did Dick Vitale make a BJ Flynn reference early in the 2nd half of the Texas – UNC game?

by UL is my hot hot sex on Dec 19, 2009 4:02 PM EST reply actions

Didn't hear it, would not be surprised

He spent about 30 seconds talking about Greg Schiano’s mom at one point.

by Mike Rutherford on Dec 19, 2009 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

staying hot

We got to stay Cardinal Red HOT!! Keep the wins a coming. This game is a pivotal game for us in the next two weeks before Big East play. So Sosa and Samardo need to have a big game and the 3 point shooters need to give it all and make them.

I quit watching ESPN...

…was at least going to deprive them of one viewer until our game comes on.

by JustCards on Dec 19, 2009 4:14 PM EST up reply actions

What a joke.

Thanks, ESPN. You guys kick ass.

by cardsinindy2010 on Dec 19, 2009 4:18 PM EST reply actions

I truly dispise ESPN...

…yes that’s how I really feel.

by JustCards on Dec 19, 2009 4:19 PM EST reply actions

I can't hate them.

What other channel can you watch and see sports 24/7? Yeah, they mess up a lot, but their general level of sports knowledge is so far ahead of everybody else it’s not funny. Watching sports on CBS with Verne Linquist involved makes me want to put needles through my ears.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:20 PM EST up reply actions

I would love to watch sports 24/7

ESPN has 20 hours of ridiculous commentary, limited to one or two teams/players in every major sport, and 4 hours of sports every day. I want fewer SC reruns, and garbage shows of “journalists” yelling about a game that hasn’t happened yet, and more real matches.

by Dais on Dec 19, 2009 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

ESPN2 screwed up for anyone else on Insight?

It’s really choppy, both on channel 30 and 509. ESPN360 looks fine

by cmb on Dec 19, 2009 4:21 PM EST reply actions

Looks fine for me.

But I’m in Etown. The ticker has been sluggish all day on both channels.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

Courtside : surprised there are some empty seats...

Letting them play underneath… War going on.

Our traps are proving effective.. Our rebounding still looks a step slow

by frankpos on Dec 19, 2009 4:24 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Anyone else watching the Kentucky game periodically..

.. and continuously thinking that Austin Peay may have the most hood team on the planet?

by whats_a_kragglestick_car on Dec 19, 2009 4:25 PM EST reply actions

Yes, hood.

Like, what’s really hood, bitch? Dave Chappelle. God, pump some life into this forum. It wasn’t a Don Imus-esque type of a hood.

by whats_a_kragglestick_car on Dec 19, 2009 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

Jennings

is incredibly athletic for someone his size. I think he could be really dominant in the low post if he wanted it.

by whats_a_kragglestick_car on Dec 19, 2009 4:30 PM EST reply actions

I'll say it again...

…I love the hustle and pace of the game.

by JustCards on Dec 19, 2009 4:33 PM EST reply actions

Agreed.

I just wish we were knocking down more shots. We’ve never been a good jump shooting team (inside the arc anyway).

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:35 PM EST up reply actions

1-3-1

Is not a good defense for a team with limited playmakers to face. Good timeout.

by Mike Rutherford on Dec 19, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Uh oh.

Jamaal Mashburn calling UK’s 2000th game? That’s pretty big.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:39 PM EST reply actions

Rock and Cousins

will rock guard Cousins in the KY game?

by pienso on Dec 19, 2009 4:41 PM EST up reply actions

Doubtful.

It’ll have to be Samuels and Jennings. I can’t imagine Rock or Swop being tough enough to guard him.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:44 PM EST up reply actions

Free throws...sheesh

TJ > SS

D Is winning this for us so far

by frankpos on Dec 19, 2009 4:48 PM EST via mobile reply actions

BOOOM`

This is why we are a Defense first team

by Remote Cardinal on Dec 19, 2009 4:50 PM EST reply actions

What a sequence

Capped brilliantly by Jerry punching everybody on the bench.

by Mike Rutherford on Dec 19, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions

Jerry Smith

best thing to happen to the towel industry since Jerry Tarkanian

by UL is my hot hot sex on Dec 19, 2009 4:51 PM EST reply actions

RUN fueled by good team D

Energy big in Hall right now

by frankpos on Dec 19, 2009 4:54 PM EST via mobile reply actions

This is the first time I've seen the Cards play this year

It looks like we have some nice pieces, TJ, PK, Kuric is playin – good Edgar
Siva is made for TV
Buckles looks impressive
and I finally see what everyone is talking about with Swop

How did we have those 2 ugly losses?

by cardinNO on Dec 19, 2009 4:57 PM EST reply actions

Louisville

we play better when we take naps prior to the game instead of exams

by UL is my hot hot sex on Dec 19, 2009 5:02 PM EST up reply actions

Should've been

Considering the beat downs we’ve had this year and the loss to them last year, I’m happy with 15.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 4:58 PM EST up reply actions

Pitino must have lit a fire under these guys

That was a great half. Let’s see if they can keep it going for 40 minutes this time.

by rickmbari on Dec 19, 2009 5:12 PM EST reply actions

Jerry is jumpin' today

First half— to’s were key
us 4, them 12; had them by 4 bounds
They still shot over 50% on 2’s and 3’s

Our D … It can carry us.

Rebounding — still not any ferocity… But they are letting them bang and we’re winning the scrum

by frankpos on Dec 19, 2009 5:31 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Whew...

was worried about Preston’s hand there.

by Remote Cardinal on Dec 19, 2009 5:33 PM EST reply actions

Dammit. Preston hobbles off... He's fallen on that hand also at least 3 times

W Ky is cooked

watch for pitino to light up his
brickley
soon…

by frankpos on Dec 19, 2009 5:49 PM EST via mobile reply actions

LOL, Samuels

was mad at Delk for not passing up that Three.
He wanted another dunk

by Remote Cardinal on Dec 19, 2009 6:00 PM EST reply actions

Is Pitino over there

making fun of Siva? The players are laughing

by Remote Cardinal on Dec 19, 2009 6:01 PM EST reply actions

I think right now it all needs to be better.

It’s getting lost in translation, but they’ve actually cut into the lead considerably on sloppy defensive play over the last few minutes.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

Wow

The Sosa/Jerry reaction to Brickley’s bucket was immaculate.

by Mike Rutherford on Dec 19, 2009 6:06 PM EST reply actions

Siva's free throws need work.

I’m hoping it’s just his wrist still a little off.

by CARD_G6 on Dec 19, 2009 6:08 PM EST reply actions

Cards got their mojo back

So much better than those early games

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
