Former Florida QB seeks fresh start after arrest
"Newton, kicked off the team last year after he was arrested and charged with stealing another student's laptop, led Blinn College (Texas) to the junior college national championship earlier this month and is being courted by several Football Bowl Subdivision teams.
The junior college signing period began Wednesday, and according to Newton's father, the 6-foot-6, 240-pound versatile quarterback is considering Arizona, Auburn, Louisville, Kansas State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Oklahoma and a few others."
Sounds like from the article the arrest was a bad mixup, but I'd check into this guy before making any quick decisions. Nonetheless, as he was Tebow's understudy, I would imagine Strong would have an inside track on grabbing him. As he is currently a JUCO player, he would be immediately eligible and would certainly breath some life into the quarterback position here: this is no ordinary JUCO transfer, people. Maybe Z Stoudt caught wind of this?

Cecil Newton said the incident was a huge misunderstanding. He said his son bought the laptop from another student and merely panicked when police started questioning him about it.
“Everything was misconstrued from the get-go,” Cecil Newton said. “He bought it from a kid, didn’t know it was stolen and then didn’t respond to the officers because he was afraid. He learned a life lesson early on.”
Who knows the truth, but I think this is the part that sounds like it could have been a misunderstanding. Regardless it sounds like he has made good of this incident and is on a better road.

I'll defer to Strong
and his assessment of the kid. If he thinks he’s worth the risk, who are we to question him at this point?
Maybe Z Stoudt caught wind of this?
Or maybe Stoudt realized that he was the fourth string quarterback, and that his previous coach had found a 5’8" walk-on to be a better quarterback than him, so he was probably not ever going to start by winning a skills competition…

I guess...?
There’s too many QBs for a small walk-on to make any ground. His value is helping to recruit other local players and assure them that the coaching staff is legit, the facilities are nice and the tutors are hot.

We need to land this guy......
He would make an instant impact…… .And lets face it we dont have any Brian Brohms battling for a starting position next year
I hope Cameron Newton comes...
But I didn’t think Justin Burke was THAT bad. Really it’s hard to evaluate any returning talent we have b/c we had such a dipshit for a coach.
And really, it’s hard to evaluate things when you have a lurking dipshit variable thrown into the equation
Seriously
Burke almost beat UK and that was pretty much it for him.

I always felt like he got a really bad shake.
It was like “Hey, thanks for transferring from a BCS school and coming in and playing well and all. But now that this Juco guy who’s never taken a D1 snap is healthy, I’m gonna need you to sit on the bench. Oh, and FYI, I’ve decided to make you second string so I can suit up this 14 year old dude called Will Stein and see if anybody notices. Thanks, though.”
Burke was injured
Or else he would have gotten the nod against Stein. The few games after the initial injury were given to Froman because he was playing better than Burke. IMO, Froman was the best QB on the field based upon game time performance. Because our O-line couldn’t block even Syracuse, the more mobile QB was needed… I still see Burke as more a pocket passer, and he really didn’t show the arm strength that a pocket passer needs. It made sense that Froman was chosen and I thought he would have started all along if he didn’t get injured at the beginning of the season.
Krag loved Froman's attitude
and basically handed him the starting job during the spring because of his leadership qualities. I agree that if he never gets hurt, Burke probably doesn’t see the field. I also agree that Justin doesn’t have the best arm, but honestly, he looked better in the Kentucky game than Froman or Stein did at any other point in the season.
He was not nearly as injured as Kragthorpe wanted you to believe.

Didn't know about the UK game.
I was a best man in a wedding (in Georgetown, KY nonetheless) on the day of the UK game, so I didn’t get to see Burke then. I had to relay game updates from my blackberry to the groom while we were taking pictures. haha I just know that Burke didn’t look more (but probably was equally) impressive than Froman for games after UK. He always seemed to over/under throw a few passes in every game he was in.
I was going to say that a real fan wouldn't schedule his wedding on that day
But then I realized that I’ll be married in a few weeks, and on my honeymoon during the UK basketball game.
If you missed the UK game, then you missed what I'm talking about.
He looked impressive in that game. He was able to rush around to avoid sacks, but he didn’t get happy feet like Froman. He hit a long streak to Trent Guy in stride; yes, he overthrew and underthrew some passes before and after that, but I think he showed with that play that he can hit them, he just needed more experience in judging distance. Froman’s only competed long ball I can remember was to Scott Long against Southern Miss and it was way overthrown, Long just made a good play on it. But what Burke brought to the table was a genuine passion and want to win, something I never got from Froman. Burke just made things happen; I never felt like Stein or Froman could do that.

I never believed the previous coach's injury reports.
1. He didn’t tell us they were injured and made himself look like an idiot for not playing the best players.
2. He made the injuries sound worse than what they were, for some nefarious reason only he could believe.
I think Burke was the best out of our mediocre, shouldn’t be starting at a BCS school QBs.

Stein
Hate to say it, but I was a big fan of Will Stein. Not only was he easy to cheer for due to his height and local high school career, but he was the only one who could throw a tight spiral on a regular basis. Not only that, but he consistantly hit open receivers, something Froman and Burke both struggled with throughout the season. Comparitively, his numbers aren’t as good, but from a mechanics standpoint, I thought he was more solid than the other twon.
One way or the other, you’re right, Steven. None of the three would be starting if our recruiting had been halfway up to par. Oh how I miss the days of being “Quarterback U”…

I was mad
when they put Froman in against Pitt. I thought Burke could have won that game, or at the very least had a better shot. Louisville averaged more points with him in at QB than any other (24), and he probably would have improved had he kept playing or at least thought he’d have a good chance to keep playing.
