Strong (ahem) Start To Recruiting

Looks like the hopes and dreams about Charlie Strong's recruiting prowess are starting to come true early.

Louisville landed 2010 speedster Corvin Lamb from Miami (Northwestern) High School and Louisville junior Devante Parker, according to Demling and other sources.  Also, Iowa DE Tyler Harrell is transferring to UofL.

UPDATE: Demling reporting juniors Jamon Brown and Jerrell Moore (both Fern Creek) also committed  tonight.

In addition, Mike is reporting (tweet-porting?) that Zach Stoudt is sadly transferring to a JUCO.

Parker is "Louisville's best wide receiver" prospect according to ITV.  And there are some videos floating around of him (he wears #1):

Update Two,  Video of Lamb:

Can't wait to see what sort of recruits this guy can bring in with a full year of work and a full staff.

Parker is a huge get

And anyone out of Miami Northwesters who’s classified as a “speedster” can probably find a place to play here.

stoudt transferring?

really? color me shocked. shocked i tell you. i mean after all after simms basically stood on the sidelines for much of the season, playing a few meaningless snaps in garbage time, getting a few series against pitt (i never saw or listened to that game so i don’t know how well he did there) and standing on the sidelines at rutgers in the final game watching senior hunter cantwell get destroyed and not even get looked at for a few snaps, i’m surprised stoudt didn’t transfer DURING the season.

will stein (freshman walkon) starts over zach stoudt (freshman scholarship)? really steve? whiskey tango foxtrot?

i don’t care if kragthorpe is a decent human being. the man has no idea how to properly manage a bcs football program. pissing off some of your star recruits just because of one single slight (read seedy k’s latest blog post for info) is like cutting of your nose despite your face. i get the distinct feeling that kragger found out that said damn in casual conversation with one of his teammates and decided to keep him on the bench because of that.

the cupboard was not only lain bare by this guy, he stole the damn cabinets in the kitchen on his way out.

I'd say amen but..................

…………..that might make me sound like Kragthorpe.

I am pumped. I honestly looked at a buddy and said, “Congrats Charlie, welcome to louisville, now go back to florida and get us a team.” The man is doing it. Ill take 5 more like it.

Does anybody know about the two kids from Fern Creek?

Seen them play, have any thoughts, etc? I generally follow Louisville High School football, and I’ve heard of Parker and Smith, and as Mike said, any football player from Miami is welcome, but I haven’t heard anything about the Fern Creek kids until they committed to us.

I am just excited that we stole recruits from Rutgers and UK on these recent commitments. We will prevail!!

Recruiting rankings

Does anyone know how this works with the juniors? All of the ‘11 guys we just got (sans the 4* QB) are rated as 1* on scout. But then I watch the videos and i feel like that’s not right. Are juniors not really scouted unless they’re making a ton of buzz or what? Is there any idea where these guys might end up star wise?

Note: i don’t really put stock into the star ratings at all, i was just curious as to why these guys aren’t on the radar more. Not bashing these gets at all, the videos i’ve seen look promising.

I'm no expert

But typically you won’t see a true star ranking until they’re a Senior. But like all recruiting, It depends on the website/source.

If you put stock in recruiting rankings...

Louisville 2010 Recruiting Class a/o 17 Dec 09:

Rivals.com: 17 Commitments, Avg: 2.41 Stars, #78 overall (#6 in Big East)

Scout.com: 16 Commitments, Avg: 2.25 Stars, #65 Overall (#7 in Big East)

Note: Scout.com lists Corvin Lamb as a 2-star WR (#249 Position Rank), which doesn’t seem very accurate, given his size and evidence in the video above.

I remember Bilal Powell's highlight video getting a lot of hype too.

Another 2 star recruit out of Florida, but he hasn’t turned into what a lot of us(me) were expecting. A highlight video is a compilation of highlights, not the things that need work. While I’m excited about the upcoming season, I can’t place too much stock in who we’re picking up until they start playing some games.

With that said, I think Parker will become our best get out of these recent commitments. But I admit to being biased, go Bruins!

Oh haha...I didn't mean to imply his 2-star ranking wasn't accurate!

I was referring to Scout.com designating Lamb as a Wide Receiver and listing his position rank as such.

And yikes…Bilal Powell isn’t exactly a bust, considering he was a 2 star recruit.

by UL is my hot hot sex on Dec 17, 2009 1:42 PM EST up reply actions

I agree, he is probably better than #249 in the nation. Rivals ranks him the #65 RB in the country so I'm just saying he's a speedy ATH

I was just trying to point out that Lamb’s video seemed awfully similar to Powell’s video. I thought BP was going to be great after I watched those highlights, and he is good, certainly no bust, but I thought he had the skills to do a lot more.

All I’m saying is that it is damn near impossible to tell how effective a player will be until you get him on the field. But lets go ahead and speculate because that’s the fun part, right?

If Lamb really runs a 4.41 then we have a potential Arnold Jackson/Broderick Clark/Trent Guy mix and mash going on.

Devante Parker reminds me of J.R. Russell. Same size and speed, always seems to come down with it.

I haven’t seen either of the Fern Creek kids but Brown has the size and Moore had some good numbers this season, particularly catching the ball.

Damarcus Smith looks like the real deal also. We have picked up two Kentucky Mr. Football candidates in the last week, one of them is probably the best QB in the State and the other the best WR. (In the 2011 class)

Hard to say for sure, but it looks like C-Strong is bringing the passion back to the game of football in this city, and a long with it some great talents from right here in Louisville, which is something I’ve missed quite a bit in the past three seasons.

Love all the kids we

are getting from the home city/state. It always makes me a little more pumped when I know the kids are from Commonwealth.

I'm most excited

that the in state/city kids that we are getting are so excited about Strong and about coming to Louisville. That excitement can spread and it can only be good for our program if it does.

One baseball game, he came to the plate and heard a woman in the crowd shout to the pitcher, "I'll make you a chocolate cake if you strike out that 'so-and-so'!" Says Strong: "I hit that ball out of the park. Then I looked at her like, 'Do I get a cake now?' "

Now if he'd just hire an Offensive Coordinator to coach them...

I’m on pins and needles waiting to find out who the OC’s gonna be.
