Justin Coleman

ITV’s Mike Hughes said yesterday that Louisville coach Rick Pitino is pursuing 6’ 4" SF/SG Justin Coleman, a 4-star high school senior out of Huntington Prep (West Virginia). The video above isn’t the most impressive 1:19 of basketball I’ve ever seen but this isn’t the time to be picky. We need talent and getting a guy like Coleman—who is ranked in the Top 50 for the 2010 Class—would be a step in the right direction.

Academics

Folks on ITV were debating the academic eligibility issue, a few of which claim that West Virginia—a team that needs a wing player next year as much as UofL—withdrew their offer b/c of it. However, others are saying he’s made progress academically, he’d once verbally committed to Marquette and now he’s opened up his recruitment b/c of said progress. Hard to figure out what’s really truth or fiction but concern about academic eligibility is probably valid, given the sources who have reported that.

Either way, Louisville needs talent and it’s worth the risk at this point.

But after meeting for two consecutive days with athletic director Debbie Yow, Friedgen was given the go-ahead to make plans for a 10th season as coach at his alma mater.
