He's baa-aack. I don't know who to root for in this matchup, but I do know that either team would probably beat our squad right now and Samardo would get out-rebounded even by DC.

"Derrick Caracter will make his return to college basketball Sunday against New Mexico State.

UTEP coach Tony Barbee told FOXSports.com the once-heralded high school star has been cleared academically to play for the Miners for the rest of the season.
The 6-foot-8 1/2, 270-pound Caracter is a New Jersey native was at one time the No. 1 high school player in the nation.

Caracter spent two up-and-down seasons at Louisville — much of it in Rick Pitino's doghouse. Caracter averaged 8.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 18 games as a freshman and 8.3 points and 4.5 boards per game as a sophomore.

Caracter was basically forced to leave Louisville as his grades plummeted and his weight ballooned. He was set to turn pro, but declined an invitation to the Orlando pre-draft camp and wound up transferring to UTEP — where he has set out the past year."

Talking about gaining weight.....

I read an article that said he was 318 pounds when he arrived at UTEP,,, It was saying he was trying to get back down to 270 by the time he got cleared to play…. As much as I hate to say it would actually could use his inside pressence right now or atleast to push smardo around in practice…… maybe that would toughin him up

Why would you hate to say that?

I’ve missed Caracter ever since he left… the man was a force and still would be. He’d be a hell of a lot more valuable to this team than Samardo in my opinion. In limited playing time he still gave Big East teams hell down low

Hard to say how bad the attitude problems were, but they must have been pretty bad.

Because DC is vastly more talented than SS. And he did give Big East teams all kinds of problems in limited minutes. He single-handedly kept us in the first half of the Marquette game that Jerry won with the buzzer-beater. A

know dont get me wtong....

The guy was everything Samardo should be with his size …. I just said that because Rick would preach so much about how much of a team distraction he was and thats the last thing this team needs …. But no doubt about he would be the center peice of this team….

After the draft Greg Oden was quoted as saying

that Caracter was the scariest player he’s ever faced

Dude had raw talent though

I remember the first time I saw him play for UofL and I was blown away. He was aggressive, got all defensive rebounds, got tons of offensive boards and when he got the rock within five feet of the basketball he was gonna go to the rim. He had such a sweet touch for a big guy too. But that raw talent was not met with any kind of discipline as is often the case. I like his new look (not just the mohawk, but also the extra lbs.). Surely Sameuels and/or Jennings will come around. Right? Right?

Its a sad day

When we want Caracter back. His off the court problems and bad attitude was costing us. Pitino gave him every chance to be a productive member of the team and he simply refused. His incessant moaning hurt us bad in our Elite Eight game against UNC. Things must really be bad if we want this chump back. The sad thing is, he really is as good as everyone is saying we just got duped by this over rated fraud SS.

From Seth Davis:

And I quote
Derrick Caracter had two points and three fouls in 12 minutes in his season debut during UTEP’s loss at home to New Mexico State Sunday night. There are some people who have high expectations for Caracter, but I’m not one of them. I still remember interviewing him for the first time the summer before his freshman year of high school. When I asked Caracter if he wanted to play in the NBA, he told me he did not. He wanted to be a veterinarian.
