Beware of Bellarmine: they know too much

Last night's news that "Le Moyne stuns Syracuse" must be resonating on the lips of coach Pitino this morning before taking on the DII powerhouse Bellarmine Knights.  UofL can draw a couple of parallels to this Syracuse team: both have lost many of their veteran leaders, both are ranked in the preseason top #25, they both have an orange for a mascot, and both blow chunks at football.

I won't be the first to say that Bellarmine will be more of a test that le Moyne will be for the Cards. The Knights return a veteran cast, including nine of their top 10 scorers, who are looking to make a statement to future opponents. Their starting line up also would seem to tower over the home Cardinals. And who's to say that this won't have neutral site feel with all the Bellarmine Alumns in the house?

But here's the kicker: this Davenport-led team has been playing against UofL all summer to boot, so they have been planning the logistics of this game for months and will not come out scared against the big, bad D1 defending Big East champs (still feels good to say that).

So fear not Syracuse, the Cardiac Cards may be "getting some motivation" tonight.

I really hope we avoid a similar fate as Syracuse.

With all the football disappointment this season, this would not make me a happy person.

I'm just glad we will have a challenge

Rolling all over an opponent in exhibition doesn’t do much for this team. Going up against a solid fundamentals team like Bellarmine that will make us pay for mistakes is what we need to prepare for the regular season.

My predictions (which are dead wrong 90% of the time): Look for Sosa to outperform Siva (although we’ll all still be impressed by Siva’s ability), and Samardo to have another big night. Cards win the game, but get outdone in rebounding and at the line. I also expect Smith to have a hot night from 3 for the Cards.

Is the game online

anywhere? How about that justin.tv site. I’ll check it out later and cross my fingers. Looking forward to the game. I’m glad we play local college in Kentucky during the season. I’d rather play all Kentucky colleges than Morgan State, Stetson, or Radford (anybody know off the top of their heads where these schools are?). I’m sure they are going to give us a good run and it will be nice to see a Bellarmine alum cheering section.
