Pitino Keeping It Simple
In Coach I tend to trust. Through the early losses, in years past, I've kept the faith because I believe not just in his record but in his knowledge of the game and his tireless game prep. Even more comforting: when the character of his team changes (once experienced and refined; suddenly raw, young, and talented), he adjusts.

I don't know...
Pitino’s staple has always been to rush things early. It gives the team so many options as soon as Big East play starts, which is really what matters. Yes, it’s maddening to lose these easy games early, but I think it pays off in the end. Maybe it will be different this year since we seem to have much more speed and depth than previous years, but we’ll just have to see.
consider the expectations
“Let’s see” is exactly the point. If there was ever a year in which it might just be okay to roll the dice and lose, this might be it. If the team dominates in November\December and falters when Big East play starts, it’s a lesson learned. But if it pays off, and a raw group builds up a head of steam to ride into March, lesson also learned. Either way, Coach is adapting and showing a willingness to teach himself a new trick.
Or he's avoiding Karen Sypher flack with early season wins.
Just sayin’, there have been other opportunities for him to try this over the years. Not saying it’s not a good idea or that it won’t work out, I’m just not getting my hopes up.
This is no diff than Denny's system --except Denny played even toguher teams early on
and we always had some losses. It was no big deal then—and still isn’t.
Just good strategy that worked over the yrs….
Don't forget about Willard, too.
Sounds like he’s got enormous influence with Pitino. Perhaps it was he who made the recommendation to teach the playbook in bits. I think if there is one person Pitino will actually listen to when someone disagrees with him on the way he’s been doing things, it’s Ralph Willard.
