Conversation from Double-T Nation (Texas Tech SBNation Blog) About Mike Leach and Louisville
http://www.doubletnation.com/2009/11/16/1159512/leach-rumors-start-early
If we're speculating, we might as well see what they're speculating.
Some of the better points of conversation:
My question to all of you and the folks in Louisville is “why would you want to hire a coach coming off a perhaps 7-4 or 6-6 season”? The alums and admin will want nothing to do with that. The coaching profession is all about striking while the iron is hot and Leach was firey hot last year, not this year. This year proves that there is much work to be done and why should he leave to start all over again given next year’s team and the incoming recruits. No school wants a coach coming off an average season and has yet to win any conference titles . . . - WreckerRaider
IMHO, you guys are right on the money as to why this rumor makes litle sense, and thus probably trash. However, the notion that our coaches name is mentioned often, and with wreckless abandon doesn’t fly. The reason his name has come up in the past is because, in fact, he was shopping... - TTUMAR
...Leach is going no where. He’s got one of the best paying contracts in college football today. Is on the verge of putting an exclamation point on what will be 10 years of extraordinary development, strategy, and accomplishment for a program that should always be indebted to him. The double TT and Leach brand are inseparable. He retires a Red Raider the
ultimate “rebel” (pirate)! - Raiderit

I didn't believe the Leach rumors at first
But him coming to Louisville does make some sense. He’s burned some bridges with the administration at Texas Tech, it’s an easier road to the BCS and the city of Louisville is significantly better than Lubbock, TX.
I’m still sceptical, but I’d be very happy if this happened.

"he's come too far... he's accomplished too much... progam is indebted to him forever... he'll retire here..."
all things we said about our previous 2 coaches… maybe he’s not coming to Louisville, and I’m hoping honestly that he doesn’t… but guys leave huge, storied programs like michigan, oklahoma, lsu, west virginia, etc…. there’s nothing about Texas Tech that nails down a coach’s career forever

Yes, of course...but some haven't been bitten by coaches yet
Any fan base—Florida, USC, etc…—who thinks their coach will be there 5 years from now much less their entire coaching career is delusional in a way that can only be remedied by a coach burning them.

LUBBOCK
BOBBY KNIGHT COULDN’T RECRUIT BODIES TO COME THERE AND HE’S LEGENDARY. I WOULDN’T RATE LUBBOCK ANY BETTER THAN STARKVILLE, MISS MSU’S HOME. THEIR BEST HOTEL IS AN OLD HOLIDAY INN NOT AS NICE AS A MOTEL 6. I IMAGINE YOUR COACH WOULD LIKE DERBY TICKETS INSTEAD OF SOME CRAPPY RODEO.

I agree with just about everything you said
You’re obviously a smart person, with a lot to offer this community. Please stop posting in all caps, it is difficult to read and most people ignore your posts because they’re not worth the effort in reading them.
Your posts are like going to a nice restaurant and getting a long, skinny crab leg when you wanted a lobster tail; it may still be a delicacy, but it’s not worth the 30 minutes it would take to open the damn thing. Be a lobster tail, man.
