Open Thread: Louisville vs. Arkansas
Louisville Cardinals at Arkansas Razorbacks, Nov 17, 2009 7:30 PM EST
The beginning of the season is always tricky, but if this dog can win a Big East football game, then I'm pretty sure she can bring home the beggin' strip this evening.

GO CARDS.

I though Siva was touted as more of a true point guard
Heard his shooting wasn’t quite good enough to be considered “scoring minded”

Switch to Siva after the half
and he won’t have any legs by the end of the game

I think Rick is just looking for a reason to sit Edgar and put Siva in as soon as possible.

Yeah, I checked in on that game and was glad I hadn't missed much
Then I realized it was in the 30s in the second half..
That had a good 5 minutes, but damn that was a pain to watch
Kansas-Memphis and Michigan State-Zaga should be good maybe
Wasn't terribly impressed with the lineup of games to begin with
Can’t say I’m let down since I wasn’t expecting too much.

Not impressed with Samuels so far...
We need some flashing to the middle to exploit the zone.
Also, Sosa’s 2 three attempts haven’t been great imo.

It means he has a repitoire
He’s not going to be able to go strong the bucket against Arinze Onuaku or anyone in the NBA, he’s just not explosive enough, he needs a varied game.

We needed that timeout.
Someone has to rebound, or at least all 5 should not be on the same side of the court
Is any body else getting tired of the announcers acting like we should be up by 30?
we haven’t played 10 minutes yet
Just like the big east tourney vs. Cuse
They think short-handed means something in the first 10 mins.
It means nothing til the LAST 10 mins.

Nope, it's the truth
But I still hate this phase of the season. I can’t wait until we’re hitting people w/ backdoors and stuff, that usually comes later on.
Especially true this year...
..for all the talk of freshman, guys like Kuric, Delk, Swop and TJ will get a lot more time this year than they did last year.
We’re in a perfect spot this year because we don’t have those expectations.
If the last couple of years are any indication, you are not

Two things
1) I hate early games because I always have unrealistic expectations, such as the team having a feel for each other and running a smooth offense. I should probably just wait until mid-December to watch for my own health benefit.
B) Why did SS switch numbers? Confused the hell out of me.

Yeah. But as Knight keeps repeating
He does nothing to get himself open. It should be easy to contain him if he keeps standing still.

True
I also agree with Knight that Alcorn must have been playing a lot of zone when Clarke went off for 51.

Okay half...
….seems like we have guys who can hit wide-open threes.
Until we see man defense it will be tough to know how the inside-out game works.
Rick didn’t seem too mad about the fouls, we always play aggressive defense with our hands.
Jared doing a decent job on the boards.
Overall, one big run and I need more Rock Buckles in my life and we’re good.
Swop with 8 first half boards...
It’s looking like we’ve found our rebounder for the season. Just hope he can keep it up.
His rebounding is what determines if he remains in the starting lineup come big east time
I’ve enjoyed watching him play thus far
Too bad nothing came out of that year...

And when they inevtiably make the Rotnei Clarke story into a Lifetime movie, the actor who was the quarterback from the friday night lights movie will play the lead role of Rotnei Clarke

Wrong football movie.
You’re thinking Varsity Blues. He’s talking about the guy that was in Fast & Furious: Tokyo Drift.
I'm not one to normally do this, but what is with Bob Knight?
He’s been down on L’Ville all game, even having to correct himself about “not getting the ball inside enough”.

by CardinalDude on Nov 17, 2009 8:48 PM EST up reply actions
I actually respect the coach's critical eye angle, it's refreshing
better than the lovefest you see on MNF with Gruden always being positive. But he does sound like an old man at times when he says stuff under his breath…“Get the ball out of his hands…”
by UL is my hot hot sex on Nov 17, 2009 8:51 PM EST up reply actions
I enjoy his insight as well.
But he seems to really focus on one or two things ALL game.
by CardinalDude on Nov 17, 2009 8:52 PM EST up reply actions
Ironic how the OCD that makes you a good coach
Doesn’t necessarily make you qualified to talk about the game to others. I hate that ESPN is just a retirement home for washed out coaches/players.
He reminds me of my dad in a lot of ways
Decides very early what his opinion is and justify it against all odds (sometimes just by repeating the same thing over and over), ignoring the fact his original opinion is wrong.
"Santa Claus doesn't use Craigslist." -- 'tHan
Just me or have the refs decided to let them play this half so far.
Haven’t called 3-4 of the over the back calls that they made in the first half.

Wide-open 3s
When we miss those, that allows them to get back into it. They’ve scored on every possession so far. Eventually we will score.

…all we need is one or two guys to get hot per night.

Likewise, the men’s recruiting class was solid, whereas I don’t think the women’s was quite as good. Not bad, but not enough to vault them to the same level of success as last season.
Oh I agree. Just commenting that’s the attitude of most people this year with the men’s team. “we lost two to the NBA, thus we’ll suck”
